And in between them there's another little, but significant thing call conflict. Conflict is what brings those two together or breaks them apart. All of these things can be revealed through character, tone, plot, and setting. However, a great story will have the one thing that will aways reoccur. It is what drives these elements to where it is meant to be and that is theme. For example, in Spirited Away by studio ghibli there are many recurrent themes that are revolved around good versus evil greed adulthood and many more. And other films like The Good, The bad and The Ugly, has an underlying theme that runs throughout the movie and that is the power of deception. Every great story has a flawed protagonist and every one of them has their own unique voice and unusual traits! Flawed characters are believable and relatable and this is because they are given human qualities the quality of being imperfect. Heroes and great stories knows what they want, their obstacles, and lastly the cost that comes along. Great stories leave the audience wanting to know more and doesn't require a happy ending but rather leaves you fulfilled and satisfied.
