"Oshi no Ko" has hit the anime community with a bang! It’s already getting tons of love from its passionate new fandom. With just a single episode, it’s already risen to the number one spot on My Anime List. Quite a feat for a new show, and one that’s delighted its fans. But what caused this rabid, major burst of popularity? The creator’s past has likely helped. It’s another work from "Kaguya Sama: Love is War" creator Aka Akasaka, which has surely helped spread the word. And the manga has been well-received, too. But this strong initial reaction goes beyond that sort of bleed-over. A creator having a past popular work or the manga being well-liked doesn’t guarantee an anime this level of strong reception. Given the premise of "Oshi no Ko", any discussion of its premise runs the risk of spoiling the first episode. There’s a lot of twists and turns in this story right from the beginning. It’s best to go in with as little knowledge of the plot as possible, and fans are even actively warning audiences to be wary of spoilers. However, it’s going to be hard to avoid seeing the character designs. Twitter users have been extremely enthusiastic, sharing original art and screenshots freely in their excitement⏤that’s another well-realized aspect of this adaptation. And getting fans to love specific characters always helps establish a new fandom. Goodsmile are already selling figurines based on the series! Ultimately, though, the answer is simple. "Oshi no Ko" is a great show. Fans of the manga are extremely happy with the show’s first episode, right down to small details like the eye designs. It’s gotten people excited and happy to see where the show goes from here. But we don’t know yet if the show will be able to retain this first episode’s high standards. Will "Oshi no Ko" become a bigger show than "Kaguya Sama"? Or will it loose steam after this strong premiere? We also have the results of the global "Naruto" character popularity poll. And Sakura beat Naruto and Sasuke!
