  • Who is Edmund Burke? Edmund Burke (1729-1797)  was an Irish statesman, author, and political  

  • theorist known for his advocacy in the British  House of Commons. Often called the "father of  

  • modern conservatism", he supported the American  Revolutionaries but opposed the French Revolution.  

  • In his seminal "Reflections on the Revolution  in France", he predicted the descent of the  

  • revolution into terror. Burke championed the  preservation of traditions and institutions and
