Subtitles section Play video Print subtitles What's going on Sauce Makers? My name is Mark and welcome to Sauce Stash. Today we're gonna be making some sushi rice. So sushi rice is simply just a short grain rice mixed with vinegar, sugar and salt. So let's get started. It's really easy. We have two cups of short grain rice, two cups of cold water, one tablespoon of salt, quarter cup of sugar, quarter cup of rice vinegar and a quarter cup of white wine vinegar. So you just want to make sure that when you make your sushi rice, that your short grain rice is rinsed very well. So I rinse my rice five times, run it through the water, run it through a colander, run it through the water, run it through the colander and let it dry for about 15 minutes. You end up with a dry white rice and you can tell the color change is really nice once it's ready to go. So to get started, we're gonna add our white rice to a medium sauce pan on high heat, add the two cups of cold water. And now we're gonna bring it to a boil. Once it boils, we're gonna lower it to a medium heat and throw the cover on it. Ok. So it's been a few minutes. This has been brought to a boil. So I'm going to turn this down to a medium heat, put the lid on and we're gonna walk away for about 10 minutes. Ok. So the 1st 10 minute timer is up, we're gonna actually just going to turn this to a low setting, a very low setting and allow it to cook for 10 more minutes. OK. So it's been about 10 minutes on low. We're gonna remove the rice from the heat and just allow it to stand untouched for about another 15 minutes. The big thing with sushi rice is just the waiting game. So while we're waiting for the rice to finish up, we're going to now mix up the vinegar mixture, the seasoning mixture. So again, we just have our two vinegars, sugar and salt and we're just gonna slowly stir these to allow them to combine and allow the sugar to dissolve. So we've let everything sit for about 15 minutes. The vinegar mixture is done and the rice is done. So we're gonna transfer everything over to a large bowl and I'm gonna slowly mix in. This is the last process of it. And then you're gonna have sushi rice, sticky sushi rice. So we got a large bowl. Again, we're gonna use a spatula because this is gonna be sticky and then we're gonna kind of just bunch it in here. Look at that. Yeah, it's just beautiful. So with the vinegar mixture, you don't want to just directly pour it over, then start mixing in, you kind of wanna fan it into the mixture. So you're just gonna pour slightly over your spatula or your spoon, whatever you're using. And then that way, it just kind of lightly drizzles over the rice. So we're gonna use like a chopping and folding method to get the mixture mixed in. And this is also going to fluff up the rice too. Now, it's also recommended to slightly fan off the rice, which will help it dry. Well, that's it, Sauce Makers, sushi rice. Use this to make your sushi, your sushi bowls, your poke bowls, you know this for a bunch of different stuff. It's a good sticky rice. Have a lot of fun with it.
