Subtitles section Play video Print subtitles Hello, welcome to my presentation. The topic which I have chose for my presentation is Componential Analysis. The topic is related to semantics and deals with analysis of discrete units of meaning. It is also clear from the term Componential Analysis that is analysis of components. So, this is the study of analysis of discrete semantic components. I have divided the whole video in three main sections which is definition, explanation and examples. So, let's take a start from definition of Componential Analysis. Words can be described and analyzed in terms of their semantic components called Componential Analysis. This means that analysis of word in terms of semantic components. In Componential Analysis we divide meaning in components by which we can analyze word with deeper insight. Componential Analysis is basically proposed by Structural Semanticist to analyze word meaning. The approach is based upon the belief that meaning of word can be dissected into components. It provides deeper insight to understand meaning of word. It also helps us to understand relation between words which are related in meaning. It helps people to understand word structure. Positive and negative sign are used for semantic features. I have mentioned three main examples male, man and woman. In male, man and boy semantic feature are present. So, they are indicated with positive sign while the girl and woman are absent. So, they are indicated with minus sign, negative sign. Man and woman. In man and woman, human and adult are present. These two semantic features are present. So, they are indicated with positive sign. While the male is present in man while absent in woman. So, it's indicated with negative sign. It also helps us to relate the word because they are same in two semantic features but different in one semantic feature. So, in short we can say that Componential Analysis is analysis of discrete semantic units which help us to understand meaning, structure and relation between words. Thank you very much.
