  • move over Microsoft. Chipmaker NVIDIA is now the most valuable company in the world worth more than three trillion dollars. Yes, that is trillion with a T. It surpassed Microsoft. That's why we keep saying move over Microsoft. NVIDIA stay on shares of NVIDIA rather are up a whopping 174 percent since the start of this year. We turn now to ABC News business reporter Alexis

  • Christopher. She joins me with more. Alexis, NVIDIA is now the most valuable company in the world. A lot of it is because of A.I. as we know. Why is that? And is there this is the most this is the most controversial question right now. Is there an A.I. bubble in your view?

  • Oh, well, that's I have to look into my crystal ball to answer that one, Jay. But let's just take a step back and look at this meteoric rise of this little chipmaker that could NVIDIA. The company's been around a long time, established in 1993. It had this niche niche market. Its chips were put in video games. Fast forward to today, and it is at the forefront of the A.I. revolution.

  • It's chips in hot demand. Everybody from Tesla to Open A.I., the parent company of chat GPT, wanting to use NVIDIA chips. And just to give you an idea of how far how fast that stock has come, the company actually passed hit a trillion dollar mark in the middle of last year, its market value. And now already this year, three point three trillion dollars, you know, unseating Microsoft as the world's most valuable company. This is really an exclusive club. When you think about the trillion dollar club, Amazon, Alphabet,

  • Apple, all part of it. And now NVIDIA as well. And the other controversial question is NVIDIA's

  • CEO, Jensen Huang, now more powerful than Jeff Bezos. I'm kidding. We're not going to do that.

  • But the stock market is hitting record highs, too. This is great news for NVIDIA, but there's great news for the market. In your view, that is somewhat seems to have begged off talk of a recession.

  • That was a long ways away. Talk to me a little bit about that. You know, sometimes there is this disconnect right between what's happening on Main Street and Wall Street. I mean, the Dow crossed 40000 for the first time ever last month. We keep continually hitting these record highs.

  • But you're right. I think talk of that recession has pretty much gone away. When you look at the broader economic picture, inflation, no, it's not where we want it to be, but it is coming down.

  • The job market, the hot job market starting to cool off a little bit and the Federal Reserve really considering cutting interest rates later this year as opposed to raising them. So I think the economy in a very different place from where it was just one year ago, Jay.

  • The great Alexis Christopherus for us. Alexis, thank you for your time.

  • My pleasure, Jay.
