The angel is kissing his girlfriend!

He's not an angel;

he's got a you-know-what.

Since when do you know so much about angels?

He's the god of love, and he's called Cupid, or Eros.

We learned that in school.

It's Greek mythology.

She can't seem to take her eyes off him.

She's a mortal named Psyche, and Cupid's madly in love with her.

But Venus, Cupid's mom, tried to put Psyche to sleep forever.

No!

Yes, she did.

She was incredibly jealous that her son preferred Psyche.

That's weird.

But Cupid gave Psyche a kiss, and it woke her up.

Hey, that's exactly the same as Sleeping Beauty!

And the loser was Venus, huh?

That's right, and then Zeus, king of the gods, made Psyche immortal.

But why are they both naked?

Because the Greeks liked to show how beautiful the body was, and the sculptor Canova felt the same way.

They really look so much in love, don't they?
