Premier Zhuo Rongtai on Wednesday addressed criticism about the government's handling of the suicide of a civil servant who worked at the Ministry of Labor.
The victim was a man surnamed Wu, who was reported to have been bullied at work.
Critics say that the main perpetrator of the harassment, Xie Yirong, only got a slap on the wrist.
Premier Zhuo says that the case will be further investigated for accountability.
Let's hear from him.
I would like to once again extend my deepest apologies to the family of the victim and to the general public.
I am deeply sorry and I offer my apologies to you all.
Branch head Xie Yirong committed big mistakes and will be given two major demerits and referred for disciplinary action.
The most severe punishment in that case would be dismissal and a ban from ever working as a civil servant.
The case will be transferred to judicial and investigative units and accountability will be sought to give justice to Wu's family.
Also on Wednesday, Minister of Labor He Peishan was brought to tears during an environmental committee meeting where she was censured by 46 lawmakers.
She acknowledged several shortcomings regarding the investigation.
One of them was the wording of the final report which said that the victim's supervisor had had good intentions.
Another was the slow action taken by the government to shed light on the matter.
He admitted that her performance in the first six months of her tenure had not been up to par adding that she would be willing to step down.
Premier Zhuo says he'll let He see the case through to the end before further discussion matters with her.
