  • Hello, everybody.

  • Welcome back to e-cubed, e-cubed.

  • That's pretty smart.

  • I know, I know.

  • Today, we have a great expression, pick your poison.

  • Oh, we have some alliteration, same sound.

  • It sounds good.

  • Pick your, pick your, the K sound connects.

  • Your, actual pronunciation, your, but the daily English pronunciation, your.

  • Pick your, pick your, pick your nose.

  • No, no.

  • Pick your poison.

  • Poison?

  • Poison?

  • Yes, that's what we say.

  • Pick your poison.

  • What does pick your poison mean?

  • Actually, it probably usually is used to choose your alcohol.

  • So, you're at a bar, and you're looking at the alcohol menu, and the bartender says, pick your poison.

  • I'll have vodka.

  • Pick your poison.

  • Oh, I'll have tequila.

  • Pick your poison.

  • I'll have a diet coke.

  • It's possible, okay?

  • However, not just alcohol.

  • We can use it in other situations, too.

  • For example, I am going to buy a cake today.

  • Mmm.

  • What kind of cake should I get?

  • They have cheesecake.

  • They have strawberry cake.

  • They have many different kinds of cakes.

  • Now, if I eat cake, is it good for me?

  • No.

  • High calories, lots of sugar, it's not good for me.

  • If I only eat cake, I might die.

  • So, we can say, pick your poison about desserts.

  • So, for alcohol, it's good, and also for something that's really good, really delicious, but probably not too healthy for you.

  • So, maybe at lunchtime today, or for a snack, you're looking at two different snacks.

  • Mmm.

  • Which one?

  • Which candy should I eat?

  • You can think to yourself, pick your poison.

  • Choose your poison.

  • Which poison?

  • Mmm.

  • This one.

  • Let's listen to the dialogue.

  • Ooh.

  • These all look good.

  • Pick your poison.

  • Mmm.

  • I'll have the peanut butter cookie.

  • Good.

  • I want the triple chocolate.

  • Mmm.

  • Oh.

  • Is it done already?

  • I'm sorry.

  • I'm having a triple chocolate cookie.

  • It's really good.

  • I'm dropping crumbs.

  • You wanted the peanut butter cookie?

  • Yeah.

  • It's really good, too.

  • But, it's mine.

  • It's a present.

  • An early birthday present.

  • When you go buy a cookie, you have to choose a cookie, pick your poison, pick the triple chocolate.

  • It's better.

  • Mmm.

  • These all look good.

  • Pick your poison.

  • Mmm.

  • I'll have the peanut butter cookie.

  • Good.

  • I want the triple chocolate.

  • Mmm.

  • These all look good.

  • Pick your poison.

  • Mmm.

  • I'll have the peanut butter cookie.

  • Good.

  • I want the triple chocolate.

  • Mmm.

  • These all look good.

  • Pick your poison.

  • Mmm.

  • I'll have the peanut butter cookie.

  • Good.

  • I want the triple chocolate.
