If you're going to live in newness in your life, new things, it requires breaking forth, breaking out.
It means there are things holding back.
And if you want newness in your life, you have to break out of something.
We all want to overcome.
We all want to grow.
We all want to go to higher ground.
That's what our heart is.
Tonight I'm going to look at some of the most crucial, biblical, spiritual, and practical keys for new beginnings in your life.
So what does this have to do with that?
Well the context of that law, the law of the firstborn, is Exodus.
It's Exodus 13, so that's one chapter after Passover, the Exodus, when it begins.
So this is all about their leaving Egypt.
After hundreds of years, generations of slavery, they are set free.
This is the time they're leaving oppression, and frustration, and darkness, and misery, and alienation.
All that for blessing, for the promised land.
It's the day of their new beginning.
And what law that does God give them on that day?
It's the law of the firstborn, or the law of the first fruit.
The first fruit is holy to the Lord.
That's a principle in the Bible.
The first, not that other part is not, but there's something special about the first.
The first fruit of the womb is especially holy.
If you remember when Messiah was born, he was the firstborn and so he was dedicated in a special way to be dedicated, so they were dedicated to the Lord.
So what's the connection?
God told Moses to tell Pharaoh, Israel is my firstborn.
Israel is my firstborn, he said.
And on the day that they leave, that Israel leaves Egypt, God gives them the law of the firstborn, or the first fruit.
Why?
Because the exodus is a birth.
It's the birth.
It's Israel coming out of Egypt.
It's a birth.
It's a national birth of Israel.
It's kind of, you could say it's a, a new birth, a second birthday, but it's a birth out of the womb of Egypt.
They are born as a nation.
And one of the most, the one who's most critical on earth for this coming out is the man named Moses, or in Hebrew Mosheh.
What does Mosheh mean?
It means to bring forth.
So here God is bringing forth the nation as a birth out of Egypt and the one who's leading it is named bring forth in Hebrew.
So here is, it says Israel's my firstborn and now is the birth.
And now at that same moment he says now for you every firstborn you must especially dedicate to the Lord.
You see this principle throughout the Bible.
The first fruit.
Passover is linked to the first fruit.
The next celebration, Shavuot or Pentecost, is also linked to the first fruit.
And tabernacles also link to the first fruit of their harvest.
The first fruit is given to God, is dedicated especially to God.
And it stands for all the that's coming.
So the first fruit represents the rest.
That's why it's called the first fruit.
It's the first of all the fruits.
So we have this principle.
You already are, you partake in it anyway.
For instance when you tie, that's the principle of the first fruit.
It's not supposed to be the end of your giving of that week.
It's supposed to be the beginning of your giving.
It's the first part on the first day, or the way, however you do it.
The first fruit belongs to God.
You know back then they might, you would have, you might have fruits to actually give.
Now you have money that represents that.
So, but as the principle is as you bless the first part to God, the rest of everything else is blessed.
God blesses the rest.
Now Passover, I mean think about it.
It's all about the first fruit, the firstborn.
It's the firstborn son that was either killed on that judgment or saved on Passover.
And then during the Feast of Passover you have a day called Yom Reshit.
Try it.
Reshit.
Reshit.
Or Yom Bikurim.
或 Yom Bikurim。
And that means the day of the first fruit.
It happened during Passover.
They go out into their fields and they would lift up the first fruit of the new harvest.
It had been winter.
This is the very first fruit of the new harvest lifted to God.
The next festival, Shavuot Pentecost, you also have first fruits lifted to God.
In fact that, on that day God sanctified the first fruits of the first believers, 120 of them.
They were the first fruits of everybody who would get saved.
And he, he pours his spirit on them.
It was the day of first fruits.
And then, and so the firstborn is the first fruit.
It allows the rest to come.
See the first is of anything is what makes the rest possible.
The first begins so all the rest can come.
The first is the beginning of something new.
The second, third, fourth, and the rest, that's not as new as the first.
The first is the beginning.
So the first is always linked to newness, new beginnings.
So here is this law of the first fruit of firstborn.
When is it given to Israel?
Just when at the time of its birth.
And in the month in Hebrew called Nisan, which means the beginning.
Now the word for firstborn in this, in this law of the firstborn is the word bikor.
Try it.
Bikor literally means to break open, to burst forth.
Bikor
Because the firstborn is the one who breaks open the womb.
So it means to break forth.
So in order to be born you have to break forth in some way.
You know, you know some people think about birth is just a, birth is a traumatic thing.
You're, it's a breaking forth.
And when you were born again you spiritually had to break forth.
It may not have been just a natural or a, or was a natural.
It may not have been a very smooth thing.
It could be traumatic.
But it's a, you had to break forth in some way.
You had to break out.
Being born is not an easy thing.
It's breaking forth.
So when God does a new thing it's a breaking forth.
If you're going to live in newness in your life, new things, it requires breaking forth.
Breaking out.
突破。
It means there are things holding back.
And if you want newness in your life you have to break out of something.
You have to break forth from something.
It's kind of like the Red Sea holding back the Israelites.
And all of a sudden it opens up.
It breaks forth and they pass through.
It's like a birth.
And so new things in your life come through your life as breakthrough.
And, and so they often require actions of breakthrough.
Or first fruit actions of change, of repentance.
And this opens up a secret here that can change your life if you apply it.
That all, that comes from all this.
The power of the first fruit.
And that is, and that to translate it in your life for change, it's the power of the first step.
The first fruit of anything is the first step.
The key, that key can make the difference between a walk of victory and breakthrough or of miss blessings.
That we don't take the first step.
The first step is key in anything.
Messiah said, not one jot or tittle shall pass from the Word of God.
Right?
Well the word jot is, of course it wasn't, you know, that's an English word.
That comes from a Greek word.
It's a translation of the word iota.
That's the little thing.
Well that word iota is a translation of the Hebrew word yod, which is the, the y.
We get the y from all these things.
And so, and the thing about the yod is that it's the smallest letter.
It looks like an apostrophe.
That's the yod.
It's the smallest letter.
And yet the greatest words in the Bible begin with it.
For instance, I'll give you some.
Yahweh, Yehovah.
That's, the name of God begins with a little, little thing.
Yeshua begins with a little, little apostrophe.
Yisrael, little thing.
Yerushalayim, Jerusalem, little thing.
All of it.
So saying that the greatest things start out with this little stroke.
And the greatest things in your life start out with one step.
One little step.
一小步
Messiah called Peter.
And what did Peter have to do?
Now, think about all that Peter's going to do in his life.
Peter is going to become the leader of the apostles.
Peter is going to, going to become the great Simon Peter.
The rock he's going to become.
The one who writes the epistles.
All that.
Famous for the rest of history.
But the only thing he had to do when Messiah called him was drop his net.
The whole, everything that he would ever do was key to dropping his net.
If he didn't drop his net the rest of Peter would never have happened.
The first step, the first fruit is the most important.
God called Moses.
What was Moses doing?
Moses was a shepherd when God called him.
But Moses is going to do everything.
Moses is going to, going to go to Pharaoh.
Moses is going to call down the ten plagues.
Moses is going to, the ten commandments, the law, the Red Sea, the miracles, the priesthood, the Bible begins with Moses.
All that.
But it all was hanging, all that was hanging on one thing.
Moses, take off your shoes.
All he had to do was take off his shoes.
But if he didn't take off his shoes all that would never have happened through Moses.
Take off your shoes.
And so in our lives, in your life, the most important thing is the first step.
If you don't take the first step the rest will never happen.
The first step therefore, the first fruit is holy to the Lord.
And one of the key things why believers never know newness or change or the victory, why many of them don't, is because they never take the first step.
Why?
Because they never took it before.
See when, what is the first step?
A first step is a step you haven't taken before.
You know if you're walking from here to there it's not a first step.
Only the first, if you know it's, you've done that before.
Whatever you've done before that's not a first step.
The first step is when you're, you're taking an action of a new beginning you've never done before.
And that, and the reason why we often avoid it is because we're not comfortable because it's something new.
Second, you know, and also if Moses, imagine now if God told Moses now all the things he's going to be doing.
And he's going to be leading, he's going to be overseeing like two million Jewish people.
You know and they say, listen overseeing any two million of people is a, is a hard thing.
But Jewish people, it says for every Jewish, two Jewish people you have three opinions you know.
So that means you have with two million you have three million opinions.
And Moses is over, sometimes he would just say Lord just take these people from me.
I can't take it.
And he's 80 years old.
So, so he could not handle being told all those things.
But when Moses says right there the first thing is just take off your shoes.
You can handle that.
Take the first step and that will lead to all the rest.
But the first, if you want growth and victory you gotta, we have to master the key of the first step or the new step.
Let me, let me give you another way of looking at this.
You cannot live a life of righteousness today.
You can't.
You only have today.
That's not a life.
But you can take the first step of new righteousness today, of a life of righteousness.
If you look at all you're called to do you can't, you can't, that could be overwhelming.
A life of purity.
A life of selfless.
A life of, of, of holiness.
A life of all that.
You, but you're not called to live, you cannot live that life today.
You can take a step though to that life today.
And if you take that step, you can take one step of purity.
You can't live a life, but you can take one step in the direction of purity.
That's the beginning.
You can take one step of righteousness.
One step of, of, of holiness.
One step of, of joy.
Whatever that is.
Of repentance.
悔過
That's what you can do now.
You see the Bible says we are supposed to be living in newness.
You know linked to the word new is the word now.
If you're gonna live in newness you gotta live in now.
You can't live in then.
You can't live in that.
Live now.
You can take, you cannot live a life of righteousness now.
You can live, you can take one step though right now.
And that's one step.
So that's so important because a lot of times for the big picture we never get to the first step.
So what is the life that God called you to live?
I mean you already know in your heart God's called you for certain things.
Or, or hey stop doing that.
Start doing this.
You know that.
But you know if you look at the whole big picture, I don't know that's so big.
I don't know if I can do that.
I can't.
Break it down.
Here you got a big journey.
You can't do that journey.
Break it down into the first step.
What thing can you do today that's going to connect you to where God is calling you then?
You understand?
That's what you know.
A life of courage.
Well that's hard to handle.
But one sliver of courage.
I can overcome that little thing.
I can go against that little fear right now.
And once I do that it's, I'm gonna lead, it's gonna lead to the next step.
But if you never get that first step it never happens.
You know maybe God's calling you to go on a mission.
You never did.
Well, well okay.
Maybe it's overwhelming.
You never did it.
Well maybe then just do a little mission.
Spread the Word to one person.
Start stepping out.
You want a life of greatness?
It begins with one step.
You may know you're supposed to be doing something and you never do it because, just take a little thing.
You know, some of you, some of you are into exercising.
Okay.
好的
And you, you think about exercising and the only exercise you're getting is the exercise of thinking about exercising.
Because you don't do it.
You're thinking about it and it's harder than actually doing it.
You're spending so much time.
You know sometimes you don't, you know, you know, you know sometimes like with me, like I try to exercise but I don't, but you know what I have to do sometimes?
I have to just not think about it.
Just start doing a little bit.
Just start moving and moving around.
Whatever I have to do.
Just do a little thing and I'm going already.
I've got momentum.
You ever, you know, something like say you're, you ever do something where you're supposed to do something and you keep on putting it off?
Like, like you're supposed to write something and you keep on, you'll sharpen the pencil, you'll get everything right, you'll do all this, and you're just waiting on not doing it because it's easier not to do it.
Sometimes forget about the big thing.
Just do a little thing.
You can do that.
Now let's say, let's say you're gonna journey on a, on a journey of a thousand steps.
Okay.
好的
Now mathematically, if you had to divide up all those steps, that first step is no more important than all the rest of the steps mathematically.
But if you treat the first step as the same as the others, that's a mistake.
Because that first step is far more crucial than the rest.
Because that first, everything hangs on the one.
I said all Peter's life stood, Paul, you know he was told one thing, you know, Paul is going to be right, he's going to be writing more books of the Bible than anybody in human history.
Paul is going to spread the Gospel to the world.
Paul is going to plant the seeds that's going to overturn the Roman Empire, overturn world history.
But at the moment he's called, all he had to do was get up.
One step, get up.
Second step, go to Damascus.
Get up.
站起來
If you look in the Bible you see this again and again and again.
Messiah's doing it all the time.
Like, like there are times he, you know, he, he calls them to live a new life.
But he often gives them a first step.
You know, follow me.
You know, or rise and walk.
Or go tell the priests.
Or go back and do this.
Or go down to the Pool of Siloam, blind man.
But go down to the Pool of Siloam.
He gives a step.
Because you know, you cannot do something with something that's too big.
But you can do a step and that's so important for your life.
The crippled man.
Rise.
You know there's a law, this is, this is a law of the Bible and yet it's so, it's spiritual but it's so practical it can change your life.
But it's also a law of physics.
Let me, let me bring physics into it.
And here's one of the laws of physics.
An object at rest tends to stay at rest.
I think that's Isaac Newton.
I don't know, to me that doesn't, it sounds like okay.
That's not a big deal.
That's not that smart.
It doesn't, you know, a person's on a, on a couch watching television.
They tend to stay there.
Okay.
好的
You know, but it's saying, but what it means really is that an object that's not moving, I'll put it another way, is harder to move.
Okay.
好的
Let me, let me, let me translate it.
If your car breaks down and you have to move it, it's very hard to move it.
You know, pushing that car, very hard.
You know, and, but once it starts rolling it gets easier.
Right?
That's physics.
That's physics.
When you leave tonight, here's a, well let me show you another way how it works.
You're going to get in your car.
You're going to start it up and move.
Your car is going to go slow, hopefully, through the parking lot so you don't kill somebody.
But it's going to go slow because it has to start out slow.
When it starts out slow it's in first gear.
Okay.
好的
As you get to Railroad Avenue you start speeding up.
It goes to second or third or whatever.
As you get to Route 23 it becomes, it could be fourth.
As, if you get on to Route 80 it can go into fifth gear.
Okay.
好的
But the reason is you cannot start in fifth gear.
If you start in fifth gear the car is not going to move.
Because you have to go into first gear.
Because the principle is to move something at the beginning requires the most energy for the shortest amount of space.
You've got to, it's got to focus all the energy on moving that car.
Just like, but once you are rolling then it switches the opposite.
The energy is spread out.
It's going for speed.
You understand?
But you can't switch it around.
If you go on Route 80 and you go into first gear you're going to be crawling.
But if you do, you know, or the other way will not work.
So what it's saying is learn from your car.
And this is physics but it's also take physics into the spiritual realm.
Spiritual physics.
And that is whenever you do something new or you're going to change, God's calling you to change, it takes more focus, more for you to focus, focus and power into that little thing.
That's why in some ways the smaller the step is the better it is.
Because you can put it all into that.
You understand?
Once you take, you know, you're doing something you never did before.
You've got to, all this again, you've got to have it against it.
You've got attitudes against it.
You've got the old way against it.
You've got the flesh against it.
You've got all that stuff against it.
So you need to just do the first thing.
But once you do the first step the second step becomes a little easier.
And then if you do it, then the tenth step is a lot easier.
Eventually it becomes a habit.
It becomes second nature.
You're not even thinking about it.
Just like the car.
So combine the principle of the first step with the principle of physics and energy.
The smaller it is the better.
You can do it here and now get rolling.
Once you're rolling, God, you will have, you will have the power.
Let me give you an example of how to do this.
And that is that, say I've got to do something new.
Well there's a million things against it.
Again, I'm afraid of doing it.
I'm very, you know, whatever.
Decide.
First make the decision.
I'm going to do it.
Lord help me.
Give me your spirit.
I need your spirit.
Repeat it.
Declare it.
You're going to do it.
You might want to write it down.
Tell others.
You know, write it down.
Remind yourself I'm going to do this.
Put, put the focus into what God's calling you.
Start with the one step.
The first step is sacred.
The rest will follow.
When I was a kid they had a truck called Mighty Mike.
And it went real slow.
Does anybody remember that?
It went real slow.
It crawled.
And, and, and you know you had to take a time exposure to see if the thing was moving.
But all the energy was put into power.
So like nothing stopped it.
You put something in front of it, it knocked it down.
Whatever it was, it put all that power into a little.
Messiah spoke of investing.
And, and, and he's, and, and the thing is that you know he gave that, as speaking of the kingdom, investing.
Now, now here's, let me, let me put it in this way.
I've done it in physics.
Did it in agriculture.
Did it in the, in the Bible.
Now in the financial realm.
If you have a thousand options where you can invest your money, a thousand, and most of them will give you six percent, which is very good.
But one of them gives you ten times your amount, a thousand percent.
Where would you do it?
Would you spread it all equally?
Or you'd put it into, you would put it into that one that does that.
Well that's the difference if you're journeying a thousand steps that first step is what's going to return tenfold of your life.
It's going to produce newness.
Newness.
See a lot of our life is about following what we've already done before.
You know the biggest change probably happened when you came to the Lord.
That, and that's when all those things, because you were open to newness and you were doing new things.
Hey, I've never went to a church before.
Or I never prayed before.
Or I never worshiped before.
I never opened the Bible.
Everything was a new step and look how it changed your life.
But what tends to happen is, and those are all good steps and they're good habits, but what tends to happen is then we stop kind of, we stop taking the new things and we kind of go on automatic.
But in order to walk in newness, the Bible says those who follow God, those in the Spirit, they walk in newness of life.
That means, that means more of your steps have to be new.
Peter was called to walk on water.
Now that's the first step.
Because he never did it before.
He had no way of doing it.
It took fear.
It was fear.
He had to overcome his fear.
It was all that.
But he did it.
In Acts 9 when Paul, you know Paul is saved now and his whole life is going to change.
But the Lord simply said do just follow me what I'm saying step by step.
The greater the calling God's calling you with, the greater the change, the more power and focus you need to put into this step.
It's better to do a little bit with all your heart than to do a lot without, with half your heart, or less with your heart.
You might be afraid.
You know, you know for instance, I say how many people, you know, I don't want you to raise your head.
But how many people have gone out and shared, shared the gospel with a stranger?
Most of you are not doing that.
You may have done it, but you mostly are not doing that.
And some of you, and again you're most of believers are afraid to do that.
But take a little step.
Just, you know, focus.
I'm going to do a little step.
I'm going to leave a track there.
I'll run.
I'll run away.
But I'll leave it in the supermarket, you know.
Or I'll do this.
Start it out.
Once you start it you'll go to the next thing.
You have momentum.
Another law of physics and of the kingdom.
You're rolling.
You know maybe there's an area, you know there's, there's, I'm sure there is an area where you have to repent of something, or there's a sin, or there's a temptation.
And you don't think you can turn down.
You kind of just give up.
Well, well maybe you can't even see yourself breaking out of it.
The first thing is to be able to believe that you can by God.
But take one step of saying no.
All I'm going to do is the next time I'm tempted, all I'm going to do is just take that one step.
I'm going to say no, or I'm going to back away, or I'm going to, or I'm going to take that temptation.
I'm going to put it out of my house today, or I'm going to put it away from me.
Whatever it is, take one step.
Once you resist it once, you have power to resist it again.
