now the first thing and that you are going to need to learn

how to count I mean like and drummer

now music is divided in the measures

measures are divided into notes we're going to divide this measure

into quarter notes Quarters are always four

there's four quarters in almost everything so

we're going to count four notes one

two three four

that's one measure now I'm gonna take

We Will Rock you

We Will Rock You by Queen and we're going to count quarter notes

1-2-3- 4

1-2-3-4

Now let's apply that to the drums

if you have a drum set bring your laptop up to the drumset

and then play along if you don't have a drum set

then play along on your hands and knees now

when you count 1 you're going to have a hi-hat

any kick

when you count 2 you're gonna have a high hat and a snare

wanna

3 you're going to have the same thing is one which is

a hi-hat any kick when I'm

on 4 you're going to have the same thing is 2: Which is

hi hat and snare now we're going to loop it

so it sounds like this

I now let's practice with a metronome

is a very important for you guys to know your

ABC's of drumming which is Always Be Counting

A B C now we're going to do this at 60 beats per minute

and you can get a metronome at the App Store or the Android store

was pretty easy right now it's going to get a little

bit hard now we're going to take a measure

and instead of dividing in into quarter notes we're going to divide

in the 8 notes which is 8 notes

one and to and 3

and 4 and that's

8 now how we're going to apply that to the drums

it's the same thing is the quarter note groove

but on all the and you're going to have a hi-hat 1

and 2 and 3

and 4 and Now since

that's a little bit tricky we're gonna put that at

40 beats per minute in if you feel if you hear something weird

yes because it also counting 8 note

1 and 2 and

3 and 4 and

all right now that was fun

and if you're having trouble its alright to rewind it a couple times

and make sure that your strokes

are perfectly aligned with the metronome

now let's play along to a song we love

drums we love music so why not do it together

we're going to do it at a mix. in the mix is at 19bpm

90bpm and it's just a mash-up

of a bunch different songs and we're going to be using that

8th note groove that I just taught you and here we go
