  • I'm Rachelle Grossman with today's health news. It happens in only 1 out of every 197

  • million births - a child born without a nose, nasal cavity or olfactory system. But on March

  • 4th, a child was born without such typical facial features. It's been about a month and

  • with the child doing much better, his parents are speaking out, saying "he's just like any

  • other baby. He just doesn't have a nose." The child survived his early life by breathing

  • out of his mouth. To help him eat without interrupting that breathing, doctors performed

  • a tracheotomy. Due to Eli's airway condition, his parents say taking care of him is a bit

  • more of a challenge, since the tracheotomy must be cleaned and suctioned twice a day.

  • Doctors say when Eli is older, it is possible, to construct a nasal pathway.
