  • Most of my time seems to go in planning for, or worrying about, the future.

    我大部分的時間似乎都在計劃或擔憂未來

  • Whether you

    不管你

  • know it or not,

    知不知道

  • you cannot be anywhere else than here and now.

    除了此時此地之外,你都無法在任何地方

  • Wherever you are it will be here and now.

    不論你在哪裡,都是在此時此地

  • You are given

    你一次只被給予

  • only one moment at a time

    一個片刻

  • and you are wasting that moment

    而你卻把那個片刻

  • in planning or worrying about the future;

    浪費在計劃或擔憂未來

  • and the future never comes.

    然而未來卻永遠不會到來

  • What comes is always here, now:

    來的總是此時此地

  • it is a series ofnows

    它是一連串的「現在」

  • one now,

    一個現在

  • another now

    又一個現在

  • but you are always living in the now.

    但你永遠都活在現在

  • There is no future

    並沒有未來

  • so how can you worry about the future?

    所以你如何能擔憂未來?

  • It is because of this kind of worrying

    就因為這種

  • and planning for the future

    對未來的擔憂和計畫

  • that a certain proverb

    所以有些格言

  • exists in all the languages of the world:

    幾乎存在於世界上所有的語言裡

  • Man goes on desiring,

    人一直在渴望

  • planning,

    計劃

  • worrying about the future

    擔憂未來

  • and God goes on disappointing him.

    然而上帝卻一直在掃他的興

  • There is no God to disappoint you.

    並沒有上帝在掃你的興

  • In your very planning, you are sowing the seeds of disappointment.

    就在你的這個規畫中,你在播種失望的種子

  • In your very worrying about the future,

    就在這個對未來的擔憂中

  • you are wasting the present;

    你就是在浪費現在

  • and slowly, slowly it becomes your second nature .

    而慢慢地,這變成你的第二種天性

  • to worry about the future.

    擔憂著未來

  • So when the future comes,

    而當未來來臨時

  • it will come as the present;

    它會以現在之身來臨

  • and because of your habit of worrying about the future,

    而因為你擔憂未來的習慣

  • you will waste that moment also in worrying

    你會把那個片刻浪費在擔憂上

  • You will go on worrying about the future for your whole life.

    你會一輩子一直都在擔憂未來

  • You will stop only when death comes

    你只有在死亡來臨時才會停止

  • and takes away all

    而且失去一切

  • possibility of the future.

    未來的可能性

  • You missed your whole life:

    你錯過了你的一生

  • you could have lived

    你無法活出生命來

  • but you only planned.

    但你只是規劃

  • Live

    強烈地

  • intensely and totally now,

    全然地活出此刻來

  • because the next moment will be born out of this moment;

    因為下一個片刻會從這個片刻生出來

  • and if you have lived it totally and joyously,

    如果你已全然而且喜悅地活過了

  • you can be absolutely certain that the next moment

    你可以絕對肯定下一個片刻

  • will bring

    會帶來

  • more blessings,

    更多的祝福

  • more joy.

    更多的快樂

  • I have heard:

    我聽說

  • Three professors of philosophy

    有三位哲學教授

  • were having a discussion

    在一個

  • at a railway station. The train was

    火車站進行討論

  • standing at the platform. There were a few minutes before it was due to leave,

    火車停在月台,有幾分鐘才會離開

  • but they got so involved in their discussion that the train left

    但他們討論得非常投入,而火車開動了

  • without them then they realized, and they ran….

    他們才突然發現,然後追趕...

  • In the last compartment, only two professors could enter; the third

    在最後一節車廂,只有兩位教授能上車

  • remained on the platform. The train had gone

  • and he had tears in his eyes.

  • A porter was standing there. Seeing the scene, he said,

  • Why are you crying?

  • At least two of your friends have got the train.”

  • He said, “That is the problem. They had come to see me off.”

  • They must also be crying, inside the train.

  • Existence also sometimes plays jokes on people.

  • Stop

    停止

  • this habit of planning.

    這個規劃的習慣

  • Stop worrying about the future.

    停止擔憂未來

  • If tomorrow comes,

    如果明天來臨

  • you will be there;

    你會在那裡

  • and if you know how to live,

    而如果你知道怎麼活

  • if you know how to live joyously and dancingly,

    如果你知道怎樣快樂雀躍地活

  • your tomorrow will also be full of dance and joy.

    你的明天也會充滿雀躍與喜悅

  • It is the miserable man

    正是可憐的人

  • who plans for the future,

    他規劃未來

  • because his present is so miserable

    因為他的現在是如此的可悲

  • that he wants to avoid it, he does not want to see it.

    所以他想要逃避它,他不希望看到它

  • He thinks about tomorrows:

    他想到未來

  • good days are going to come.

  • He is utterly impotent to transform this moment into a good moment.

  • A long habit of transferring everything

  • postponing,

  • will take your whole life out of your hands.

  • You are asking, “Is it really possible

  • This is the only possibility.

  • You try:

  • try to be in the tomorrow.

  • Nobody has succeeded up to now

  • you cannot be in the

  • coming minute.

  • Do you think you can jump

    你想你能

  • and reach into the future,

    跳進未來

  • jump out of today

  • and reach into tomorrow?

  • Even if you are planning for tomorrow, that too is being done here-now;

    即使你在規劃明天,也是在此時此地做的

  • even if you are worrying about the future,

    即使你在擔憂未來

  • that too is being done here-now.

    那也是在此時此地做的

  • You cannot be anywhere else; whatever you do,

    不論你做什麼,你都無法在別的地方做

  • existence allows only

    存在只允許在

  • this space

    這裡

  • of here and now.

    在此時此地

  • I can say to you

    我可以對你們說

  • that I am living here and now.

    我活在此時此地

  • I also have tried

    我也試過

  • somehow to get

    以某種方法

  • into the future

    進入未來

  • but there is no way.

    但沒辦法

  • You cannot go back

    你不能回到

  • into the past,

    過去

  • you cannot go ahead of time into the future.

    你不能超前時間進入未來

  • In your hands is always the present;

    在你手中永遠是現在

  • in fact, the present is the only time you have.

    其實,當下是你唯一擁有的時間

  • And now

    而當下

  • is such

    是這麼

  • a meaningful word,

    有意義的字

  • because that is your whole life

    因為那是你的整個生命

  • a “nowstretched

    一個「當下」從出生

  • from your birth to your death.

  • But it is always now

    但它總是在現在

  • and here is the only space.

    而且此地是唯一的地方

  • You cannot be

  • anywhere else than here;

  • wherever you are,

  • that place will become here.

  • Just be

  • clear about it,

    弄清楚

  • otherwise life goes on slipping through your hands like water.

  • Soon you will have empty hands;

  • and meeting death with empty hands

  • is an utter failure.

  • Meet your death

    會見死亡

  • full of joy

  • silence and serenity.

  • Meet death

  • with your hands

  • full of ecstasy.

  • In that ecstasy, death itself dies.

    在狂喜中,死亡本身就死了

  • You never die

  • your here-now continues

    你的此時此地持續著

  • forever and forever.
