It’s Trevor James
I am in Guangzhou China
At a very famous dim sum restaurant
It’s full of local people
All chowin’ down
On some of the most amazing looking dim sum
So we’re going to order up
And try it out
Dim sum
This is big
Dim sum is so good
That you will find it’s influence all over the world
But I had to come here to the source in Guangzhou
I came to eat as many as possible
These are 11 Classic dim sum dishes that you need to try
This is a dim sum feast
Let’s start off with number 11
This is lotus leaf rice
Filled with egg yolk
Dried scallop
Mushroom
Chestnut
And chicken
I’m going to try that out
Wow
You can taste the earthiness and the leafiness
Of that lotus
Steamed throughout the rice
There is all this egg yolk
And chicken
And that sticky rice was so gooey
And a little sweet
Coming up for number ten
You knew it was going to be chicken feet
Right here
These are fengzhua
These are chicken feet
That are deep fried
Boiled
And then marinated in a black bean sauce
And then steamed
There’s not much meat on it
It’s kind of just like eating cartilage
And small bones
With a little bit of sweet meat on the outside
Number nine is a standard Chinese radish cake
Made with shredded turnip and rice flour
That is always ordered by the locals
Yeah
It tastes like Chinese carrot
Pretty much, it’s a little sweet
And now for some beef balls stuffed with cilantro and water chestnut
And then I have beef balls here
Dripping beef balls
Amazing
Number 7 is a beef stew
Packed with radish
And chee cheong fen rice noodle rolls
That will blow your mind
It’s like rice noodle rolls
In a thick beef stew gravy
Wow
It’s exactly like a beef stew with rice noodle rolls
It fills you with glee
And now we’re moving up
Number 6 is pepper beef short ribs
Wow
It tastes like pepper steak
Exactly like pepper steak
It’s really peppery
Number 5 is a classic southern Chinese egg tart
It’s like a flaky outer crust
With a middle filled with an egg custard
Oh yeah
That is really delicate
That is fine
It’s a super sweet egg custard
I feel like I’m eating artwork or something
Number 4 is the plump Chaozhou dumplings
Usually stuffed with peanuts
Garlic chives
Ground pork
Dried shrimp
Dried radish and shiitake mushrooms
Wrapped with a tapioca starch wrapper
Oh it’s sticky, it’s sticky!
It tastes like a mixture between celery
Peanuts, and sesame
Wow
This next one is a hit
Char siu bao
Barbeque Pork Bun Baozi
That’s my definition of heaven right there
It’s like a sweet barbeque pork
You can almost taste a little honey in there
And it’s gooey
And full of flavour
With a soft baozi bun
That’s amazing
Number two is the world famous Siu mai
AKA overflowing shrimp and pork dumplings
Wrapped with a lye water dough
And garnished with crab roe
So juicy
Wow, look at this
This is Siu Mai
It’s like springy shrimp with a fatty pork
Wrapped around a dumpling
Full of juice
That is just mind blowing
We’re finally here at number one
You must eat these dim sum
These are the har gao shrimp fatty pork dumplings
That are similar to the shao mai
Except wrapped with a silky smooth wheat and tapioca wrapper
That melts in your mouth
Well that was an amazing dim sum meal
