Luckilythispassionforcarsisalso a passionforart, forengineering, formechanics, itallbeganwhen I was a child, butthere’s not a specificmomentthat I canremember, but I begantothinkaboutthesethingsas I wasaround 6 or 7 yearsold.
I startedtodrawandmymotheris a painter, soathometherewasanartisticatmosphere. Mymotheralsoplayedthepiano, myfatherlikedjazz, solet’s saythattheartshad a strongpresenceathomeandthisofcoursewasimportant.
When I wasyounger, around 13 or 14 yearsold, I thoughtaboutwhat I wasgoingtostudy, whatuniversity I wouldattendanditwasn’t easybecause I reallylikedthesciences, sobecauseofthat I wasfascinatedbythedynamicsofcars.
Andthisleadmetostudymechanicalandnauticalengineering, butinthemeantime I alsolikedart, design, so I alsowantedtostudyartandindustrialdesign, too.
Andtherewasthisbigconfusionbecause I wantedtostudybothofthesedisciplines.
Oneday I receivedthebestluckintheworldwhen I had a magazineinmyhandsthatwroteaboutthelifeofLeonardodaVinci.
Andinthismagazinetherewas a phrasethat I’vealwaysrememberedandhasplayedanimportantroleinmylifeandthecompany

WiththeHuayraitwas a verylongprocess. I meanjustthedesigningprocessalonesotheaestheticworkofthecartook 5 years, whennormallytheprocessonlytakesabout a yearorso.

I havetosaythatafteralltheseyearsworkingontheHuayrawearenowfinallybehindthatjourney.
Itwas a superbdecadeforthesupercarworld. Andatthetimewewerethinkingabout a carforthefutureandwhenwecameupwiththeconceptfortheHuayrawewantedtoittobecompletelydifferentfromtheZonda.
I mustsaythattodaywhen I lookattheZonda I thinkthatofcourseitsconcepts, itssuspensionarestilltodayoriginal, butthereisalwaysroomforimprovement
andforthisreason I thinkthattheHuayraintermsofitstechnologyis 10 yearsaheadoftheZonda. Because
andonlybecauseofthisreasonbecause I don’t wanttoslatetheZondawewereabletoworkintranquilitywiththeHuayra, unliketheZondawherewehadtofocusmoreonsuccessandprovingourselves.
Weareawarethatwedon’t havetheabilityorknowledgetobeabletocreateanengine I meanofcoursetodaythePaganicompanyiswellintegratedintothecarproductionworld
buttheproceduresyouneedtoenduretodosoisextremelycomplicatedandit’s necessarytobeabletoworkandcollaboratewith a bigmanufacturer

I thinktheZonda’s engineintermsof 12 cylinderengineswasandstillisextraordinarybecausethisMercedes-builtenginewasadvancedandveryaheadofitstime.
AndeventhoughwealsohavetheMercedesenginesofthe S classandtheSL, it’s liketheheartandsouloftheZondaandeventodayitisanenginewhichwasbuiltwithsuchhighstandards.
I havetosaythat I wasveryluckybecauseevenas a kid I wasinloveMercedes, so I guessyoucouldsaythat I alwayshaverespectforthemandwantedtoworkwiththemandtheMercedesAMGis a dreamforme
So I thinkinthefutureand I amnotdisrespectingotherItaliancarmanufacturerssuchasLamborghinibecause I loveitsbrandandthetechnologythatcomeswithitandthatgoesforFerrariaswellbut I thinkthatwewillcontinuetouseMercedes’ technologyandcontinuetoworkwiththemanddevelopourcarsfurther.

I don’t thinkthatwearereadyatthemomenttostartdevelopingelectriccarsandwestillneedtodevelopfurtherthetechnologyformoreefficientcarsbeforewecompletelydismissourtraditionalcarsofthepast.
Intermsoftheelectroniccar, ofcourseitshouldbesomethingthatwewilllookintointhefuture. Rightnow, 92 % ofourenergycomesfrompetroleum. Only 8% or 9% arefromalternativeresources.
However, I dofeelthatitisfartooearlyforPaganitobeginprovidingelectronicorhybridcars; because I thinkthatthebatterytechnologyneedstobe a lotbetter.
