  • Hi guys.

  • I'm Catie Wayne, and this is "Weird Gross Beautiful"

  • on Animalist News.

  • For those of you that don't know,

  • I've had a show called "Weird, Gross, and Beautiful,"

  • and we were like, hey, how come it's not here on A News?

  • And we were like, I don't know

  • And so we switched it.

  • And so those of you that are familiar with the show,

  • I hope that you will subscribe to Animalist News

  • so that you can get your weekly dose of "Weird, Gross,

  • and Beautiful."

  • And for those of you that are not aware of the show,

  • well then, here you go.

  • Hello and welcome to "Weird, Gross, and Beautiful."

  • I kind of discuss about animals

  • that I think are weird, gross, beautiful, or all three.

  • And today, we're talking about pandas.

  • Yes, that's a panda.

  • Spoiler alert, I think they're cute.

  • Newborn baby panda cubs are only three to four ounces,

  • and that is 1/900 of what their mommy would weigh.

  • No!

  • It's already too cute.

  • It's exhausting loving animals as much as I do, you guys.

  • They don't hibernate like other bears.

  • Maybe that's why they got the dark circles.

  • Because they're so sleepy, because they

  • don't hibernate like the other bears.

  • What a life.

  • 99% of what a panda bear eats is bamboo shoots.

  • And they have a special lining on the throat

  • to make sure that they don't get splinters and stuff like that.

  • Depending on how big the panda is,

  • they'll have to eat 26 to 84 pounds of bamboo a day

  • because of how unnutritious bamboo is.

  • Jesus Christ, somebody get them a [BLEEP] multivitamin.

  • That's ridiculous.

  • Look at that face.

  • Look at that tubby, tubby face. Actually,

  • they're not tubby at all.

  • They are super muscular.

  • In fact, a panda jaw, face, and cheek muscle thing,

  • it can easily nom nom nom on an aluminum dish.

  • And they can, obviously, conveniently

  • chew right through bamboo.

  • And humans have a hard time getting

  • through the exact same stalk with an axe.

  • Think about that for a second.

  • Humans are trying to chop these things down,

  • and they're like, woo, breaking a sweat.

  • Oh, man, this is so hard.

  • Pandas, they're just like, nom, like it's a Fruit Roll-Up.

  • Clearly these are powerful creatures.

  • Panda mommies will only ovulate once in a year.

  • So they're only fertile two or three

  • days out of every single year.

  • And so, realistically, she'll probably only give birth

  • every other year.

  • And pandas have a very, very poor reproduction rate.

  • But what's even sadder is that she'll maybe

  • have one to two cubs at a time every other year,

  • and then she'll just leave one of them

  • to die if they happen to be twins,

  • because she can't take care of both of them.

  • This is so sad!

  • And as if that wasn't bad enough, more than half

  • of newborn pandas die from diseases

  • or from being accidentally crushed by a mommy.

  • Pandas are cute, but man, they're [BLEEP] parents.

  • Thank you so much for watching "Weird, Gross, and Beautiful."

  • My name is Catie Wayne.
