  • On Monday, November 14 the moon is going

  • to appear bigger than it has in nearly

  • 70 years.

  • So what's going on and what does it mean?

  • Well, every year or so we have what's called

  • a Supermoon. Why? Well the moon doesn't orbit

  • the earth in a perfect circle. It's more of an

  • ellipse. We have full moons throughout

  • the year and when the moon is at its

  • closest and we get a full moon, we call

  • the Supermoon because it appears

  • slightly bigger in the sky.

  • The reason this year's Supermoon is

  • going to be a big deal is because this year

  • the moon is going to be the closest it's

  • been since 1948,

  • appearing about 14% bigger

  • than normal.

  • Instead of looking like this, it's going to

  • look like this. So it's going to kind of

  • be a Super Supermoon. The moon will

  • appear at its largest on early Monday

  • morning but it should be pretty big on

  • Sunday night. Now if the weather blocks

  • the view or you just don't get chance to

  • see it in november 14, you won't have to

  • wait another 70 years for your chance to

  • see a Super Supermoon. The moon is expected to be

  • roughly this close again in 2034. So

  • that's the big deal with the moon on

  • Monday. i'm Jonathan Sobolewski for AL.com
