Torso rotation is another basic principle in paddling. You want to be able to use that
core muscle group which includes the shoulder and the belly area as well as your back. You
don't want to use just the little muscle groups, these small muscles here cause you'll get
really tired really quickly. If you use that large muscle group you'll last longer for
your day. So keep in mind something about torso rotation, what does it look like? Well
torso rotation if I was going to rotate my torso it would look something like this. If
I wasn't going to rotate my torso I would be paddling something like in this case, it's
almost like short punches. So you want to make sure you're engaging that full rotation.
What I'm going to do is I will just paddle away from you just slightly so you can see
what a good torso rotation would look like. Here I go! It may be easier to see it this
way. So you can see hopefully, my shoulders going back and forth. When I come back to
you, you should also see those shoulders going back and forth. Good torso rotation would
let you last the whole day.
