Dr. Beck, are there any triggers for atrial fibrillation
that you could discuss with us?
There are a lot of different triggers,
depending on the patient.
One of the interesting ones are some people have big meals
and then they go into atrial fibrillation.
Some people drink a little alcohol, and they know the trigger,
they say not a little beer but a glass of wine will always do it.
There are different triggers for patients, it’s very interesting.
Do you have any episodes to share with us?
I suppose sometimes people might mention caffeine as another one.
That's not true in most patients, but it can be.
But the triggers you mentioned about the large meals and the alcohol,
sometimes we call that ‘holiday heart’,
because suddenly patients start eating and drinking more than they’re used to
and they can suddenly develop heart rhythm problems like atrial fibrillation.
