Sotodaywe'regoingtoguideyouthroughtheprocessofcreating a studyschedule, reviewingeffectivelysothatyoumasterthematerial, anddoingitallwithoutcrackingunderthepressure, quittingschool, andbuilding a careerasaninternetpersonalitywhotellspeoplehowtodowellinschooldespiteneverbeingabletocompleteityourself.
Encodingnewinformationintosolidmemoriesis a physicalprocessthatdoesn't happenovernight, anditrequiresmultipleexposuresorrecollectionswhichneedtobespacedout.
It's hard-wiredtocare a lotmoreaboutnowthanlater, whichiswhysomeofyouareheavilyconsideringbootingupOverwatchafterthisvideoendsinsteadoffinishingthatmathassignmentthat's duetomorrow.
Whatthisallmeansisthatthestructureofthestuffsittingupinyourcraniumisn't uptothetaskofpreparingfor a test–soyouneedtobuildexternalstructurestohelpitout.
And, arguably, themostimportantoneis a studyschedule.
I recommendbuildingyourstudyscheduledirectlyintothecalendaryou'realreadyusingforeverythingelse, asit's crucialtofigureouthowyou'regoingtobalanceyourtimebetweenstudyingandfinishingalltheassignmentsandhomeworkthatleaduptothetest.
Youcanaskyourteacheriftheyhaveanythatthey'rewillingtogiveoutasreviewmaterial, andifyou'reincollege, theremightbe a fraternity, orsorority, orsomeotherstudentorganizationthatkeeps a testbankyoucandigthrough.
There's alsoanonlinetestbankatKoofers.comthatcontainsoldtestsfromlotsofuniversities, sothat's worth a lookaswell.
Spend a littlebitoftimefamiliarizingyourselfwithformulasandconcepts, sure, butspendwaymoretimepracticingandmakingsureyoucanactuallyperformtheoperationsyourself.
Intheworldofsoftwaredevelopment, programmerswhoarestuckonbrokenpiecesofcodewilloftenuse a techniquecalledRubberDuckDebugging, whichinvolvesexplainingthecodeandthoughtprocessbehinditto a rubberduck.
Theideahereisthatexplainingtheproblemto a non-expert – inthiscase, a cutelittleduckonyourdesk–forcesyoutothinkaboutitfrom a differentperspective, whichwilloftenrevealthesolution.
Now, ifyouwantanotherreallyeffectivewaytosolidifythematerialquickly, do a cheatcardexercise.
Rememberthatreallycoolteacherthatonceletyouwritewhateveryouwantedonanindexcardandbringitwithyouinto a test?
Because I do, andinmybook, thatteacherwasalmostascoolastheonewholetusplaywithmagnesiumandbunsenburnersunsupervised – forscience, ofcourse.
Now, mostteachersaren't goingtoletyoubring a cheatcardintotheexam – butthatshouldn't stopyoufrommakingone.
Thethingaboutanindexcardisthatit's small.
Andeventhough I pushedthelimitsofhowtiny a humanhandcanwritewhenever I gottheopportunitytomake a cheatcard, there's onlysomuch I couldfitonit.
Andduetothatlimitation, I hadtobeverychoosyaboutwhat I putonthecard–whichresultedin a tinypieceofcardstockcontainingthemostimportantinformationontheexam.
Andsince I'd justspentanhourlookingallthatstuffupandwritingitdowninteenytinyletters, I wasinteractingwithit – actively – thewholetime.
That's thebeautyof a cheatcardexercise.
Evenifyoucan't bringyourcardwithyouintothetest, youspend a concentratedblockoftimeselectingandwritingdownthemostcrucialinformation.
Nextweekwe'llbetacklingtestanxiety, but I cangiveyou a bitof a spoilerupfront: Goodpreparation – especiallythetypethatreplicatesthetestconditions – isoneofthebestwaystocalmthosenerves.
Sogettoworkmakingthatupcomingtestfeellike a familiaroldfriend, and I'llseeyounextweek.
