Subtitles section Play video Print subtitles Here I am at Cang Jin Yard. Cang Jin Yard litereally translates into Gold-hiding yard. Does that mean there's gold here? Well, in a way, yes. Because this place is a treasure hut for second-hand furniture and recycled wooden furniture, so if you know this place, you definitely know this is a paradise. Let's go discover more! Hi, Hello Nice to meet you, I am Tong. And you are? My name is Jyun-kai. And you work here as a...? As a substitute military service. Ok, wow, that's awesome. I think this is a really fascinating place, lots of wood! Can you tell me a little about this place? Sure. Please, this way. OK. 好的 OK. 好的 So here is the exhibition area. As you can see, we have a lot of traditional tables, chairs and you can see here we have antiques. A lot of antique furniture. They are not for sale. Not for sale, closets, exhibition. Got that. So, here we have lots of beautiful furniture. And this is for sale. Ok, so everyone can buy these. Yes. Every second Saturday morning of the month, a furniture auction is held here. People have chances to buy at a budget price some nice pieces of furniture. That explains why there are always a lot of people coming. Back in the day, if people want to dispose of their broken furniture, the Environment Protection Bureau usually only has one job to collect and destroy the furniture, just like the waste. Later we started the auction sale here at Cang Jin Yard. Also we provide some easy repair services. We employed a few specialists with expertise in woodwork to complete some easy repairs for the auction which has been wide appraised. So we truly hope that the community can also learn to love the environment and live a sustainable life. There are only sixty numbers, and two per person. After taking the number, they will look around closely at the furniture here, searching for treasures they are going to bid for. When the clock strikes ten, the auction kicks off! The intense auction has begun. People with the number can appoint the piece they want. The auction starts with the base price. For those who also want the piece, they will bid against one another. The bids are getting higher and higher. Who will win the auction? Inside the auction is heated. Outside it's bustling as well. Citizens will bring the recyclables from home in exchange of points by weight. They can redeem these points for useful daily necessities. Here are the materials we just mentioned. The tables, right? Elementary school tables. I see all kinds of wood in different sizes and shapes all around. Here you can see some tools. They used these tools to reconstruct the wood into their creative products. So, here is our furniture clinic. Ok, a place to fix furniture. Yes, Let's go. Tung, let me introduce our master, our best wooden worker, Master Wu. Hello, Master Wu. Hello, hello. I saw a lot of wooden products in the exhibition earlier. Very interesting. Are they all made here? Yes. What are they made of? They are made from our used, broken furniture. Sometimes we take apart the furniture or use second-hand elementary school tables. Because the compartments are smaller. These are all Taiwanese Cypress Trees. They are valuable and small Yes, they are small. So we must not throw them away as waste. We can turn them into something smaller. Add in our creativity and turn it into something cute. Cang Jin Yard is truly an unique place to be here in Tainan. with the auction, all the experiments that they are doing with wood and the designs and also the spreading of the important concept of recycling and reusing wood. I think all of these together sums up to what a great place this is. As a bonus, after walking in here, I can immediately smell the trees, it's like tree oil and foresty, and wood, it makes me feel very relaxed. All in all, I would definitely recommend Cang Jin Yard for you to come, whether you're a local or a traveler. Come here! This is one of a kind.
