Subtitles section Play video Print subtitles Hi welcome back, I'm Joe and this is Tom. Today we'll be continuing our fellowship from Chapter 2 in Volume 1 of the "Basic Elements of the Christian Life". Tom, based on the last chapter, we talked about how someone can know that they're really saved. And then continuing in this chapter, it shows about how someone can be assured that they can't lose their salvation. I'm going to read a short portion, and then we'll get into the fellowship today. So here, it says here "After a Christian has received the assurance that he is really saved, he may consider, 'I know I am saved today, but how do I know that I will be saved tomorrow? Is it possible for me to lose my salvation?'" Tom, many people have this question. What verse can you share with us to show that we can't lose our salvation? John 10:28 says, "And I give to them eternal life, and they shall by no means perish forever, and no one shall snatch them out of My hand." This verse tells us quite clearly that the eternal life that's given to us by God, that we possess, is something that we cannot lose. That ones we've been saved, we received His life, no one can snatch us out of the Lord's hand. So based on this verse, we can realize that we can't lose our salvation. Okay. So this is related to John chapter 10. What is another verse and another point that you can share with us about how we know we can't lose our salvation? The first point I'd like to stress is that our salvation wasn't something that was initiated by us. It was initiated by God. And Ephesians 1:4 says this, "Even as He chose us in Him before the foundation of the world to be holy and without blemish before Him in love." So we need to realize that regardless of how we feel, that it wasn't based on our condition or anything we did good or bad that we were saved. This salvation was something that was deep in God's heart in eternity passed. It was He that chose us and it was something that was done before the foundation of the world. Okay, there's one more point in this chapter, another proof, another way, we know we can't lose our salvation is related to our being children of God. And it comes from John chapter 1. Can you read these verses to us and then share with us about how these shows our salvation is secure. John 1:12 says this, "But as many as received Him, to them He gave the authority to become children of God, to those who believe into His name." And 13 continues, "Who were begotten (or born) not of blood, nor of the will of the flesh, nor of the will of man, but of God." So, as believers in Christ, we're begotten or born of God to become children of God. So what does this tell us about not losing our salvation? It tells us that our salvation is a life matter. The eternal life of God is not just a place we go after we die. The eternal life is God's own life through which we've been begotten, we've been born, we've been born again to be children of God. So ones a person is born, you can't be unborn. Just as much as the naughtiness of ones children, they can't take that child's life away. Neither can God or will God take away the eternal life because of our failures. So we need to see that our relationship with God is a relationship of life. And this life is eternal and it cannot be taken away. Okay, so this covers two of the points about the security of salvation. For everyone who is watching, we'd like to mention that there are four more points related to the security of salvation. And if you'd like to know more about what those are, please feel free to order a copy of the "Basic Elements of the Christian Life" from biblesforamerica.org. Tom, thank you for joining us and thank you all for watching as well.
