Subtitles section Play video Print subtitles Hello, I'm Crown Today we'll be talking about some classic lines from the movie "The Intern"! Last week we talked about the lines from "Me Before You", which you guys strongly recommended This time we are going to talk about "The Intern", which is nominated every time in the comment section "The Intern" is a movie from late last year And the main characters are the well-known Anne Hathaway and Robert de Niro I believe we were all very curious about how this mysterious combination bring out their wonderful performance There are also some great, useful lines in this movie so let's check them out! I read once “Musicians don't retire they stop when there's no more music in them.” Well, I still have music in me, absolutely positive about that! 我心中還有音樂,這點毋庸置疑 The previous quote “Musicians don't retire, they stop when there's no more music in them.” is from Louis Armstrong, the American Jazz Musician. Well I think it's quite beautiful so I mentioned it here Ben wanted to say that, if he were a musician and there is still great music in his heart making him continue It means that he still has many inspirations and things he want to do in his life so he wish to achieve them by an internship "Absolutely" means 完全、絕對 while "positive" is 正面、正向, which means 確定、相信 Hi, Jules I'm Ben, your new intern I'm glad you also see the humor in this It'll be hard not to 我是 Ben,你的新實習生 很高興你也覺得這事挺滑稽的 很難不這麼覺得 We usually think that interns are young people who learn social experience by going to companies But Ben, as an experienced person was assigned as a private intern to the company founder, Jules Both Jules and Ben thought this situation was funny The "humour" in "See the humor in this" means 幽默 If you want to say 「你這個人很幽默風趣」 you can say "you have a good sense of humor” "it'll be hard not to" means「很難不去這樣做」 which means "any one would think its ridiculous if they saw this situation" W...why? Erm, what, am I too inexperienced at running a business? I...I didn't go to Harvard? My...my methods aren't by the book? I mean... isn't that how we got here? 是說因為我不按牌理出牌才要這樣嗎? 但是,我們不就是因為這樣才能有今天的成就嗎? Jules was informed that the investors are hiring a new CEO for the company so she was stunned and sad after she heard the news "Methods" means 方法、方式 and "by the book" is a common usage which means 照章辦事、或是按著規矩行事 You can also say “according to the rules" Hi, honey Hey Over the hump 度過難關 Though Ben had just joined the company he already noticed the industriousness of Jules so he reminded her to never forget who the credit of bringing this company success belongs to. "Hump" is 一個隆起來的小圓丘 So "Over the hump" is successfully stepping over this 小圓丘 which means the hardest part is conquered How is it that you always manage to say the right thing... do the right thing... be the right thing? It's uncanny. 為什麼你總是有辦法說出最恰當的話 做出最正確的事、當一個最完美的存在呢? 真的很不可思議 All these shipping problems, website malfunctions and the terrible incident of mistakenly sending the email complaining about mom to her made Jules feel really pressured But Ben could always let her feel better which Jules thought this was wonderful Usually, when we want to say「某人做了某事」 we might say, "do something" But the “manage to do something” here has a meaning of「他竟然有能力、有辦法可以做到這樣子的事情」 They say you can't put the genie back in the bottle but... we can try, right? 人們說,覆水難收,但是我們可以試試看,對嗎? Jules, who wanted to save her marriage and family life had finally made up her mind to hire a CEO Though this made her sad, she still hoped that in the end everything would go back to the happy life it used to be Basically, we can see "Genie" as the one in Aladdin's lamp So the idiom "Can't put the genie back in the bottle" means 「已經發生的事情,你沒有辦法挽回」 Another idiom similar to "can't put the genie back in the bottle" is "no use crying over spilt milk” which is 「打翻的牛奶,你再怎麼哭也沒有辦法把它復原」 It's moments like this when you need someone you know you can count on So, thank you 就是在這種時候 你需要一個你知道你能依靠的人 Jules, who had decided to hire a CEO, came back to Ben at the last moment This was because she still hoped to have someone persuading her not to compromise with the situation "Moments" can be replaced by "times" which also has the meaning of 「時機、時候」 "Can count on" means 「可以相信、可以依靠」 All the above are some classic lines in "The Intern" Feel free to tell me which one is your favorite!
