Subtitles section Play video Print subtitles Hi, hi let's tell the greeting "hello" Today, I'd like to talk about greetings Hi equals hello So how you doing? How you doing is another way of saying "hello", but it also gets the information for how you feeling today The most common way of this is to say: "How are you?" So after you say "Hi" or "hello" you say "how are you?" But in Canada and North America that tense to be formal Most often we have other ways of saying "hello" to people we know And depending on how close we are close to them we will use this way to say "hello" So, If it friend you might say How are you? - Hey man The problem with his it is, you can't use it with girls and girls you can't use it at all Ok? But it does mean "How are you", ok? That's one How is it hangin? Now remember how is it hangin it's not how it is hanging. How is it hangin, slang, we drop the "g" what's up? What information is it coming up? and finally Specially, feel like friends "How are you doing?" That's enough how we say "hello" why we won't moving to the responces to these If someone else ask you "how are you?", which is formal we'd like to say how are you feeling Now be careful In North America many times we say "how are you?" We don't really wanna talk to you we just want you to say "fine" and "good" and move on You learn this by how close you are, if you are real friends you stop and talk but normally we just want a general response and then move on there are two ways to respond one is formal and one is informal, come on can you guess which one is formal and which one is informal I'll give you a clue one is an adjective and one is adverb figure it out Ok, come on Well, I'm good...I'm good boy, I'm good teacher, I'm good person. That's an adjective So we don't wanna use that I'm good What we wanna say is a formal - I'n fine or I'm well, thank you To be honest "I'm good" it's what we actually use most of time, alright? We've talked enough Personnally, I don't wanna see you anymore Joking, come on But I'm gonna teach you how to say goodbye Now once again formally goodbye but a lot of time when you talking to your friends we say differently, for instance "Later" Or "see ya" Ok? Here are two other instances where we say "goodbye" Well, come back next time, I'll teach you more, so please come back You can check me out at www.engvid.com See ya later Chao
