Skill number one is speaking up.

技能一：勇於表達自我

One of the things you would want to be sure to do

你會想養成的好習慣之一

is whether you like it or not,

不管你喜歡與否，

get very comfortable, it may take awhile,

雖然可能需要些時間，但你能夠自在地

with public speaking for example.

在公開場合中表達自我

I mean, that's an asset that will last you 50 or 60 years

這是一項能保值五十至六十年的資產

and it's a liability if you don't like doing it

or are uncomfortable doing it that will also last you

50 or 60 years and it's a necessary skill.

Skill number two is being honest with yourself.

One of the big things that all startups do is they lie

to themselves, over and over and over.

Mine's faster, mine's cheaper, mine's better,

mine's this, mine's that.

No it's not and the reason it's not is because

it's not like they're ignoring you.

but in many ways, one of the key factors

It's not whether you have the right product,

I want you to really think about and deconstruct

I want you to deconstruct this idea of confidence

我要你去解析「自信」這個概念

and it seems like a very simple work but just think about

it in your own life.

在你人生中

When you have confidence or we could even call it fire,

當你擁有自信，或是我們也稱之為熱情，

when you have that fire within you, that confidence,

當你懷著滿腔的熱情，那樣的自信，

that interior bravery,

那種由心而發的勇氣，

you almost have this power to do whatever it takes

幾乎要擁有一股力量，讓你無論如何

to get your brave vision done.

都能去完成你的雄心壯志

You see, in this world, it's not about, in many ways,

在這個世界上，就許多方面來說，

your strategy and your business or your ability

和你的行事策略、事業，或是能力都無關

in your life, it's about this thing called confidence

在你人生中，一切只取決於「自信」

and we've all had these times in our lives when we are

在我們生命中，都曾經有過那種

full of confidence and what other people see as a problem,

充滿自信的時刻，就算其他人認為那是個麻煩，

we simply do see as an opportunity.

我們純粹將其看作是個機會

Other people see it as a stumbling block or a wall

其他人視它為一顆絆腳石或是一座城牆

and we see it as a stepping stone or this solution.

我們則看它作一顆墊腳石或是一個解答

So confidence is simply something that you really

所以「自信」簡單來說就是個會讓你

want to wire in.

想要為之努力的東西

Confidence is something you really want to develop,

你會想要好好地去開發你的自信

confidence is a practice, confidence is a muscle

自信需要訓練，因為自信也是肌肉

and like any muscle, the more you focus on it

and practice it and train it, the stronger your confidence

is going to grow and I just have to say it again.

When you are at a place in your life,

when there is ongoing, steady stream of confidence

Skill number four is listening.

技能四：用心傾聽

Nelson Mandela is a particularly special case study

前南非總統曼德拉是個非常特別的研究案例

in the leadership world because he is universally regarded

在領導界中，他已被全宇宙公認為一位

as a great leader.

非常傑出的領導者

You can take other personalities and depending on the nation

就其他頗具名望的人來說，根據你所在的國家

you go to, we have different opinions about other

我們可能對這些名人持有不同的評價

personalities but Nelson Mandela, across the world,

但對於曼德拉而言，世界上的任何角落，

is universally regarded as a great leader.

都認為他是位極佳的領導者

He was actually the son of a tribal chief

他其實身為部落酋長之子

and he was asked one day,

有一天有人問他，

how did you learn to be a great leader?

你是如何學習成為一位好的領導者呢？

And he responded that he would go with his father

他回答說他都會和他的父親一起出席

to tribal meetings and he remembers two things

when his father would meet with other elders.

One, they would always sit in a circle

and two, his father was always the last to speak.

You will be told your whole life that you need

to learn to listen.

I would say that you need to learn to be the last to speak.

I see it in board rooms every day of the week.

Even people who consider themselves good leaders who may

actually be decent leaders will walk into a room and say,

here's the problem, here's what I think,

It's too late.

The skill to hold your opinions to yourself until

everyone has spoken does two things.

One, it gives everybody else the feeling

that they have been heard.

It gives everyone else the ability to feel

that they have contributed.

And two, you get the benefit of hearing what everybody

else has to think before you render your opinion.

The skill is really to keep your opinions to yourself.

If you agree with somebody, don't nod yes.

如果你同意某人所說的，先別點頭答應

If you disagree with somebody, don't nod no.

如果你不贊同某人所說的，也先別搖頭回絕

Simply sit there, take it all in, and the only thing

只消靜靜地坐著，把各種想法聽進去，

you're allowed to do is ask questions so that you can

而你唯一能做的就是盡量發問，如此一來

understand what they mean and why they have the opinion

你就能了解他們的意思以及原由

that they have, you must understand from where they

are speaking, why they have the opinion they have,

not just what they are saying

and at the end, you will get your turn.

It sounds easy, it's not.

Practice being the last to speak.

That's what Nelson Mandela did.

Skill number five is managing your time.

技能五：做好時間管理

My challenge in our generation is that gradually

在我們這個世代所面臨的挑戰，是漸漸地

through entertainment, through television, through media,

只透過娛樂，藉由電視，經由媒體，

through every way possible, we are living in a

憑藉任何一種可能的方式，讓我們生在一個

generation of the dumbing down of ideas

because we have traded effectiveness for busyness.

因為我們用所謂的效率換來了忙碌的生活

Statistics say, yeah somebody ought to clap on that.

統計資料指出，對了這時候就該來點掌聲

We are busier than any other generation we have seen

我們比起其他世代的人更為忙碌

in the last three to 400 years.

在近三至四百年間

We are so busy, we are busier than a one armed

我們真的太忙了，甚至比單手貼壁紙的工人還忙 (俗諺意指工作繁忙)

wallpaper hanger, we're just busy, you'll get it later,

我們就是這麼忙，你待會就懂了，

don't worry about it, it'll hit you in a minute.

別擔心，你很快就會感受到了

We are just as busy as we can be and we think

我們正是如此忙碌，而我們認為

because we're busy, we're effective.

因為很忙，所以我們是有效率的

But I want you to challenge your schedule for a minute

但我想給你一個挑戰，替自己安排一分鐘的時間

and ask yourself, are you really being effective

捫心自問，你做事是真的有效率嗎？

or is your life cluttered with all kinds of stuff

還是你的人生只是塞滿了各式各樣的事物

that demands you and drains you and taxes you

and stops you from being your highest and best self

and are you substituting busyness and all the chaos

that goes along with busyness from being effective?

你所謂的辦事效率呢？

Let me tell you, a bunch of scientists got together,

有一群科學家聚在一起，

they begin to do some research and they begin to determine

開始做研究之後，開始相信了

that 80% of the things we do are busy things that we do

我們處理的事情中，80% 是很繁雜

in an area that is not effective, that the average person

卻毫無效率可言的，平均一個人

only spends 20% of their time doing the thing that they

只花了 20% 的時間去做他們

are really gifted, creative at, passionate about,

真正有天賦、能發揮創意，且充滿熱忱，

excited to do and the rest of it is all the dismal,

dumb stuff that we all have to do in order to survive.

Just crazy stuff that we're doing.

Wonder what would happen if we would go from doing

80% of things that are busy but not effective

and 20% of the things that are really effective,

if we would switch those numbers around and only give

20% of our time to the things that we have to do

Wonder what would happen to your life.

想想看你的人生會有何不同

Now think about it a minute, there's a lot of things

現在試想一下，有很多東西

you could take from me and I could make it.

你可以從我身上拿走，對我而言不會有影響

You could take my suit, I got another one.

你可以拿走我這套西裝，我還有另一套

You could take my car, I could get another one.

你可以拿走我的車，我可以再買一部

You could take my house, I could get another house.

你可以拿走我的房子，我可以再買一棟

But when you take my time, you have taken something from me

但當你拿走了我的時間，代表你從我身上奪走了

that is totally irreplaceable.

完全無法取代的東西

We take all kinds of questions from money management.

我們懂得去面對財務管理上遇到的問題

We know how to manage our money, we know how to repair

我們知道如何管理金錢，知道怎麼整修

our houses, we're working on our hair and our bodies

我們的房子，我們也會花心思在頭髮和身體上

and all of this kind of stuff.

等等之類的事情

We do everything except the most important thing

但我們卻常常忽略了最重要的一件事

is to value our time.

那就是珍視我們所擁有的時間

It takes time to be creative.

發揮創造力需要些時間

You were meant to be creative.

而你生來就該具有創造力

You were created in the likeness and the image

上帝藉著自己的印象和圖像創造了你

of a creator and in that likeness and in that image,

而在祂的印象和圖像中，

you have creativity.

你富有創造力

If you had time, you would be creative

若你有足夠的時間，你就能發揮創造力

but in the absence of time and with busyness

但因為時間的不足，那爭分奪秒的生活

and clutter the ring ring ring, the phone ring,

還夾雜著鈴鈴鈴，此起彼落的電話鈴響，

beep, beep, beep.

嗶嗶嗶

You all got music playing on your phone, all kinds of stuff.

你們手機上都有音樂做鈴聲

No matter kind of song you put on,

不管你用了哪首歌，

after awhile you hate to hear it because every time

一陣子之後你就會厭倦了那首歌，因為每一次

you hear that sound you know it's somebody else

你聽到那聲音，就知道有人

wanting something else from you that's taking you away

又有求於你，讓你非得停下手邊那些

from what you are gifted and created to do.

你真正有天賦且與生俱來就適合做的事

Skill number six is stop whining.

技能六：停止抱怨

So I have this thing that I've been promoting called

一直以來我在推廣的一個活動叫做

No Whining Wednesdays.

不抱怨星期三

Wednesday you cannot whine, complain, or criticize.

每逢星期三你就不能抱怨、發牢騷或是批評他人

And people are like, well what is whining?

所以有人就會問，那什麼是抱怨呢？

Whatever you think it is, don't do it.

不管你認為它是什麼，別做就對了

And every time you do it,

你每做一次，

you have to put a quarter in a jar.

你就得把一塊 25 分錢 (美元) 放進罐子裡

If you whine about anything, I can't, I'm tired,

如果你抱怨了某些事情，我沒辦法，我累了，

why me, why don't you?

為什麼是我，為何不是你？

Every one of them will cost you a quarter.

每一句抱怨都會花你 25 分錢

Or complaining, why don't you, why do you always,

或是抱怨說，為什麼你不這麼做，為何你總是，

how come you, I am always, they never.

你為什麼，我總是，他們從不

Oop, cost you a quarter.

糟糕，25 分錢飛了

Then last week, I had people send me pictures of their

上個禮拜，我要他們寄給我

jars of quarters.

Oh my god. (laughs)

What they said to me also was, this was wonderful

但他們卻也告訴我，這是件很美好的事情

because I was never, ever aware of how much whining

因為我從來不曾意識到原來我的抱怨、

and complaining and criticizing I do.

發牢騷和批評他人是這麼的多

I've got mothers doing it with their children.

我甚至收到有媽媽抱怨她們的孩子

So Wednesday is No Whining Wednesday.

所以星期三就是不抱怨的星期三

We need to practice that.

我們需要不斷練習

We need to stop whining about what isn't happening,

我們必須停止抱怨那些並未發生的事情，

what we don't have, what we can't do,

我們沒有的東西，我們無法做到的事，

what somebody didn't do.

或是某人沒做到的事

We got to get it clean in 2014.

在 2014 這一年我們得改過自新

No whining, no complaining, no criticizing.

不抱怨，不發牢騷，不批評他人

Skill number seven is staying present in the moment.

技能七：活在當下

Skill number eight, being consistent.

技能八：貫徹始終

Success is not a destination.

成功不是一個目的地

People always think that oh my god, this person's

so successful because they've had a successful movie
