- It recently came out that

you guys were offered a lot of money to go to Netflix

with this movie.

Can you talk about the decision to not do that,

and what is gained by the theatrical experience

of this movie.

- Yeah, it was,

really the idea was,

I love Netflix, by the way,

I think it's amazing platform,

I'm sure I'm gonna be selling a lot more things to Netflix.

But really this movie in particular,

we really wanted to be on the big screen.

Kevin and I talked about it a lot that,

the thing that we have not had

is an Asian couple, romantic couple,

on the big screen.

Anointed at something worth your time

to sit in the dark and say tell me a story.

We thought that was a very strong message

that we needed to get across,

that we were in a very unique position

to push that through.

- Has the success of this franchise surprised you at all?

- Oh, totally.

I didn't even think I'd get a book published.

I never meant for it to be published

so (laughing) the fact that we're here in movie land now

is just totally surreal.

- People should come just because they want to experience

and have their mind sort of broadened

and sort of be enveloped in this beautiful Asian-ness

that we bring to the screen.
