Subtitles section Play video Print subtitles Hey everybody, Dave Erickson here. And today I'm in the Black Forest in Germany. Now don't get confused if you see me disappear down these stairs. The most important thing is what I have for you here in the garage. Today I'm gonna show you everything you need to know about the new E-Class by Mercedes-Benz. So excited to drive this car! In this generation the E-Class has been extensively enhanced. It still has its elegant appearance and superior comfort, but now it's become even more intelligent. Mainly thanks to a bunch of new cutting-edge driving assistance systems. Besides the intelligence of the E-class it's also received a more sporty and modern appearance. Overall this car feels even cooler, younger and fresher than ever before. Let's go ahead and kick things off with what's new and great about this car. Of course we start with the most important part: the ride and handling. I'm currently driving the E 200, the Saloon model. A vehicle that is just as sporty and modern on the outside as it is on the inside. As you look around you can see everything seems to fit together perfectly. As we all know the E-Class has been the pinnacle of driving comfort in its class for decades. For me personally the engine is very responsive, especially in sport mode. The transmission is super smooth and seamless. And the suspension constantly adjusts to the conditions of the road. For me driving the E-Class in a word: effortless! That's enough with the ride and handling. Let's go ahead and pull over and take a closer look at the details of the E-Class, starting with the exterior. The first thing of course is the front of the car. This modern front gives it a very sporty appearance. The vehicle we have here features the all-new SPORTSTYLE package, based on the avant-garde line. Now we have the optional 19-inch light alloy wheels with silver and black highlights. Love these! Next: the front bumper with these curved chrome elements on both sides. And last, but not least, my favourite: the radiator grille with high gloss and black louvres. And here in the back I really like these rear lights with their crystal optic – a nice and modern touch. Now let's go ahead and go inside. Clearly the theme here inside is modern luxury combined with sportiness. The first thing you see when you step inside the car is the latest generation steering wheel. From here I can control everything. For example with these touch control buttons on both sides. The shift pedals are now painted. And one more practical innovation: The cruise control is now here on the left-hand side. That means no extra lever on the side. From here I can control everything without taking my hands off the wheel. Also a prominent novelty: the new all natural, open pore black ash wood centre console. What strikes me most in the new E-Class is the obvious love for details, no matter how small they may seem. For example the aluminium trim here on the door on the left of the steering wheel. You can see how it wraps around the entire cabin from door to door. Or the black roof liner. And these cool chrome door pins. And to round off this sporty and modern design, these sport pedals with brushed stainless steel and black rubber studs. Clearly the designers put a lot of time and emotion into the detail of the interior. Now let's take a closer look at the control unit in the new E-Class. The widescreen cockpit. Nearly everything can be displayed here and it fits in perfectly with the interior. Here on the left-hand side you have a 12.3-inch display with a digital instrument cluster. You can choose up to three different display styles and customize looks however you like. You can go through the menu with this touch control button on the left side of the steering wheel. The right side is also a high-resolution 12.3-inch display for the navigation, infotainment and communication. The infotainment system in the E-Class is called COMAND Online. It includes the Mercedes me connect features. For example: locking your car via the app. The vehicle is currently unlocked. To lock it, I press here and hold here. But for now let's get back on the road and enjoy some great driving comfort and check out the intelligent features of the car. The new E-Class has become even smarter and boasts S-Class safety and assistance features. The Active Brake Assist comes standard. It can recognize cars as well as moving bikes or pedestrians in the car's path. First by warning the driver, then assisting the braking, or if necessary, to full braking. The optional Driving Assistance Package equips the E-Class with the latest driver support technology. Take the Active Distance Assist DISTRONIC, which automatically controls the car's speed and distance to the vehicle ahead. What's more, it makes automatic speed adjustments ahead of bends, junctions or roundabouts, all thanks to map-based data. Another very helpful feature is called Active Steering Assist. It helps to keep the car centred in the current lane by observing road markings or the path of the car ahead. This works on straight roads or gentle bends. The E-Class' Active Lane Change Assist also assists lane changes. If you feel like getting some help to keep the allowed speed limit, the E-Class provides the Active Speed Limit Assist. This system uses the car's cameras, sensors and map based data to identify and analyze road signs and remind drivers of the current speed limit. With this data it adjusts the speed automatically. From my point of view these assistance systems can really make your ride more comfortable and safer. And you reach your destination more relaxed. Of course Mercedes-Benz offers different body variants for the new E-Class, besides the Saloon model I'm driving now. For example the spacious Estate model, which carries the whole family. And the All-Terrain model, for a great outdoor experience. In the two-door segment, you can choose between the even more sporty Coupé and the Convertible. All four models and all engines come with the 9G-TRONIC automatic transmission as standard. Available is a great range of engines for every model. An absolute highlight: the top-of-the-line six-cylinder petrol engine in the E 450 4MATIC. Another engine worth mentioning: the strongest diesel engine in the brand's history. This new inline 6-cylinder in the E 400 d 4MATIC. 340 PS and a massive amount of torque. It is stunningly agile, efficient and second to none when it comes to a smooth driving experience. Okay guys, that was my day with the new E-Class. I've had a really great time, here in the Black Forest in Germany. This car has been amazing to drive and experience firsthand. Especially on these windy and scenic roads. And that widescreen cockpit really stands out. Finally I'm super impressed with the attention to detail with the design elements both outside and inside the vehicle.
