  • That's honestly really impressive that he was able to get

  • everyone back together.

  • - "Nonstop." Yeah, that [bleep]'s my kind of style of his tunes.

  • - The part before you played any of them.

  • I understand a lot of people like that stuff.

  • - (FBE) So the album Scorpion is divided into two different sides

  • with 25 tracks total. - Oh, wow. Okay.

  • - (FBE) The album has racked up 1.8 billion streams in the U.S. alone.

  • - Wow, people love Drake.

  • - (FBE) Drake is the first artist to trend the Billboard Hot 100 Charts

  • for eight uninterrupted years and has charted a whole 25 songs

  • off of Scorpion on the Hot 100 Chart, breaking his own record

  • for the most simultaneous hits on the chart,

  • bringing his career to 154 chart entries.

  • - Damn, he's living the life right now.

  • - (FBE) So after hearing all of this, do you think Drake

  • is gonna be viewed as the artist of this generation?

  • - Absolutely, I already think he is THE artist.

  • - I would totally say Drake, but I'm also afraid

  • Kanye would disagree.

  • - I wouldn't think I would say artist of the generation.

  • I definitely think Drake is up there, though.

  • I would even credit him almost to the "sad boy" movement.

  • - People will look back at his quality of music.

  • I don't think so.

  • I think they'll look at people like Childish Gambino,

  • people that are putting out good messages.

  • - (FBE) Well, when Drake first burst into the rap scene,

  • he was met with some criticism for being too soft

  • due to singing about his emotions over love and heartbreak

  • instead of rapping about things that felt more traditionally related

  • to hip-hop culture. - Okay.

  • He has a niche and he caters to that niche

  • and that's why people like him.

  • - (FBE) So do you think Drake has been in some way

  • responsible for a cultural shift in which lyrics about feelings

  • and emotions is more accepted within mainstream rap?

  • - I wouldn't be surprised at all.

  • I think, I mean, someone has to do it, right,

  • and the fact that he got criticism and continued to do it,

  • that definitely shows a lot of young men especially

  • that it's okay to talk about your feelings.

  • - Absolutely, because rap was kinda hardcore

  • and very battleground.

  • I like that Drake talked about his feelings and stuff,

  • even though people called him soft.

  • - Absolutely, even-- especially in music.

  • Even in people's personal lives, a lot of-- I feel like

  • there's this whole stigma with men where it's almost you

  • can't have these certain feelings.

  • But Drake instead was like, "[Bleep] that.

  • That's exactly what's driving my music right now,

  • so that's what I'm gonna talk about in my rap."

  • - I don't think that's a thing at all.

  • Rock evolves, hip-hop evolves, and I just think we're in that state

  • right now of hip-hop, I guess, of that subgenre of emotions.

  • - (FBE) Since Drake's debut, he's been a part of a handful of memes

  • and trends, including the Wheelchair Jimmy memes,

  • the Hotline Bling memes, and then the #InMyFeelings challenge.

  • - I've seen some memes, but I'm not really on the lookout

  • for Drake memes because he's not super relevant to me.

  • - They almost kind of poke fun at him.

  • It still hasn't really hindered his success.

  • If anything, it's made him so much more popular.

  • - (FBE) Do you think all these memes and trends

  • distract from the fact that he's so accomplished

  • and has broken so many records over the last several years,

  • or does it add to his appeal? - No, that only helps.

  • It's just what happens when you get popular.

  • If I became a meme like that, that means you made it.

  • - I think it adds to it, but his music is bigger than the memes.

  • - It just adds to his appeal.

  • The guy Shiggy did a challenge with it and he put Shiggy on.

  • That got everybody doing the challenge.

  • - You have to have a certain amount of notoriety

  • for memes to be made of you.

  • I think, obviously, memes are a little bit derogatory,

  • or they're making fun of you, but you have to have that acclaim

  • for people to want to make fun of you.

  • - It adds to it because, I mean, you can even see it

  • when he does stuff like SNL.

  • It makes him more popular, knowing that he

  • can laugh at himself a little bit.

  • - (FBE) So, finally, do you think Drake is at his pinnacle at the moment

  • or do you think that he's only gonna get

  • bigger and bigger from here?

  • - Well, I thought he had already reached his pinnacle

  • with Hotline Bling, but the fact that

  • he's picking back up again, maybe he'll get bigger.

  • - He's only gonna get bigger from here.

  • You know men, as they age, they get finer.

  • They could do all kinds of different stuff, you know,

  • so he ain't just one trick little pony.

  • Five, ten years, I think he's still gonna be hot.

  • - He'll get bigger.

  • I mean, I don't see it slowing down.

  • It's only picking up speed.

  • I wish this was his pinnacle, just for my ears only.

  • - It's his pinnacle right now and I think he's maybe

  • at his plateau.

  • New artists are gonna come and take over the music industry,

  • specifically for rap.

  • - He's gonna go into a decline afterwards because,

  • you know, when you achieve success of this amount,

  • you're probably not gonna enjoy it for the next couple years.

  • This whole Scorpion album, it's pretty big.

  • It's so good.

  • I honestly don't know how he's gonna come back from it.
