Subtitles section Play video Print subtitles Hi this is Tutor Nick P and this is Idioms 197. The idiom today is not for all the tea in China. Okay. Well let's take a look at the note here. If someone says that they would not do something for all the tea in China, they mean that they wouldn't do it for any price, no price at all. So you couldn't give them enough money to do it. Okay. Let's continue with the note here. The phrase of course originated in the late 19th century. Remember that's the late 1800s from the fact that China was well known for producing large amounts of tea. Even today China still produces about 25 percent of the world's production of tea. Yeah. So it's still pretty impressive. Therefore if you wouldn't accept the offer of all the tea in China you probably wouldn't accept any monetary offer. So no, no, no value in money anyway because of course all the tea in China would probably be many many billions of dollars which would probably be enough for most people. So if you're not willing to accept that you probably wouldn't accept any money at all. Okay. Let's take a look at a couple of examples here. All right. Example number one. Of course is an a B Part A says would you be willing to do a nude of lovemaking scene in that movie ? And of course you know B doesn't like this idea. So she says not for all the tea in China. So maybe she would never do that. She'd never be willing to be completely naked in a movie. Okay. Okay, so let's look at number two. He is just too ugly. I don't care how rich he is I wouldn't marry him for all the tea in China. All right. It's perfect examples of exactly how it would be used. Okay anyway, I hope you got it. I hope you enjoyed it. Thank you for your time. Bye-bye.
