The Word origin today is Valentine's Day.

There are actually three different saints named Valentine recognized by the Catholic

church and all were martyred.

They all ended up being put to death.

The legend most likely connected to the origin of Valentine's Day was a priest who lived

during the third century in Rome.

The emperor at that time Claudius II, Believed single men were better soldiers than those

with a wife and a family.

Of course married men were more obligated to a wife and a family and realized their

death would be devastating.

Well devastating to their family , especially back at that time.

If he got killed they were kind of left just helpless..

So he would probably... he'd fight but he wouldn't take as many chances.

Maybe he wouldn't fight as hard.

So the emperor kind of realized this. Okay.

Emperor Claudius II outlawed marriage for young men.

He wanted a lot of better soldiers.

Valentine of course understood this was an unjust tyrannical law and defied it.

So he went against it.

He said this is a crazy law.

I am going to still marry people no matter what.

Yes.

By continuing to secretly perform marriages for young couples . So he went against the

emperor and he still married people.

Even though it was against the law. and so he put his life in danger in this sense.

After it was discovered the emperor ordered Valentine to be imprisoned and eventually

be put to death.

However , before his death there are some who claim Valentine may have in fact sent

the first Valentine, Valentine letter or card.

He fell in love with the daughter of his jailor or maybe we should say she fell in love with

him in which she often visited him before he was put to death.

and he wrote a letter to her before he died and signed it from your Valentine.

So this is where we got the idea.

Obviously, he was very good to saving lovers.

Perhaps he wrote the first Valentine.
