  • Hi this is Tutor Nick P and this is Proverbs 74. The proverb today is a

  • leopard cannot change his spots. Okay. Let's take a look at the note here. This

  • proverb basically means that one will stay true to one's nature and cannot

  • change it. Well you know sometimes we don't like to think this way. Sometimes

  • we like to think that you know everybody could possibly change. But in some cases

  • maybe it's not true maybe maybe there are some people that will never seem to

  • be able to change. This is the sort of situation that we might use this proverb

  • in. So let's continue with the note here. The origin of this phrase actually comes

  • from the Bible. Jeremiah 13:23 and here's the quote from that. 'Can the Ethiopian

  • change his skin or a leopard his spots ?' So can you change the color of your skin ?

  • Usually you cannot. Well I mean you try to get a suntan, but usually you cannot

  • really truly change the color of your skin , and the leopard cannot usually get

  • rid of his spots. And unless it's a cartoon or something like that , then may Ye

  • also do good that are accustomed to do evil ?' So if you're a person that usually

  • is kind of an evildoer or somebody who often does evil, do you think somebody

  • can change and become good ? I don't know, there are cases where somebody could

  • have a life-changing experience and maybe that could be an exception to this

  • rule. But this proverb is used in this way that usually people who have a

  • tendency to do evil probably are not likely to change to good and vice versa.

  • So let's, let's take a look at some examples here. Example number one . Don't

  • be fooled it's not likely he has changed his ways. Remember a leopard cannot

  • change his spots. Meaning well that's his nature. That's the way he always is. It's

  • not likely he is a changed man. That's the way we would say it. All right. And

  • number two here. If you start dating Jack good luck.

  • Once a womanizer, always a womanizer. Remember we kind of mentioned womanizer

  • in several other videos. That's the guy that tends to jump from one woman to

  • another woman to another woman. You know once he's conquered , once he's

  • had maybe sexual relations with one woman, He gets bored quickly. He jumps to

  • another woman. So that's what we mean by a womanizer. A leopard cannot change his

  • spots. So if this guy already had a reputation of being a womanizer,

  • maybe another woman or another person is kind of warning him, well you dating him.

  • Well good luck. you know once a womanizer always a

  • womanizer. Meaning that you know he's not likely to change So a leopard cannot

  • change his spots. It means that's his nature. You know well good luck with that

  • relationship. Okay. Anyway, I hope you got it I hope it's clear.

  • I hope it's informative. Thank you for your time. Bye-bye.
