  • Hi this is Tutor Nick P and this is Verb Phrase 100.

  • All right. The verb phrase today is to get in on something. Okay. Let's take a

  • look at the note here. We actually have two meanings. So there's two ways we

  • could look at it. If someone gets in on something, he or she gets involved in

  • something that many other people have already started doing that is enjoyable

  • or interesting. So that's one way you could get in on something. Or number two.

  • We use it this way a lot. To get involved in doing something that makes money . Like

  • somebody sees other people make money and they want to get in on the same

  • thing. Okay. So we got three examples here. Let's take a look at example number one.

  • Almost everyone is traveling overseas these days. We should get in on the fun

  • and plan a trip of our own. All right. That would be one typical way you might

  • hear it. Or number two here. A lot of people have made money on that

  • investment. We should get in on it too. It's a little similar to like get in on

  • the action. You know, of something too in that way. So I think it's a directly

  • connected to that. And number three here. After 7-eleven was so successful with

  • their Hello Kitty sticker campaign, other convenience stores decided to get in on,

  • in on it and promote similar campaigns. Okay. Good. That was a long time ago.

  • That was probably, oh I don't know maybe 15 years ago. But it was so successful

  • the first time they tried it. Actually what they did is I don't know, I think if

  • you went to 7-eleven and you spent what's more or less equivalent to about two

  • about three US dollars, you got Oh two or three US Dollars you got one sticker. And

  • if you collect so many stickers, then you could get some little Hello Kitty toy.

  • But you'd be surprised how many people went there and how it increased their

  • business a lot. And a lot of the other convenience stores you know, they, they

  • they decided to get in on it. Oh to this day, they still do a lot of

  • promotions like that. It's not, it's not as big as the craze as when it first

  • started, but hey they still do it. So it still must be working. It still encourages

  • more people to go to their particular convenience store, if they give away a

  • cute little prize or a cute little toy. If you collect so many stickers and of

  • course then you have to spend so much money there. Okay. Anyway, I hope you got

  • it . I hope it was clear. Thank you for your time. Bye-bye.
