If someone has a long face, he or she has an expression of sadness or a very serious unhappy face. Then we say that somebody has a long face. Okay. Let's look at several examples here. Example number one. Hey Max why the long face ? Are you okay ? And this is a very natural way you may hear it . Even though I sometimes feel a little funny about it because technically I don't know if this is really a proper sentence but you hear people say it all the time. Why the long face ? Maybe really you should be saying why do you have a long face ? But I almost never hear anyone say that directly to someone. They'll usually say why the long face ? So basically why ? Why do you look unhappy ? What's wrong ? Anything wrong with you . That's basically the way we use it Or number two. Now we do use it you know often talking about other people. Jane has had a long face for several days because she broke up with her boyfriend. Yeah. It could be. Number three. What's with Bob ? Yeah we always like say what's with someone ? You know what why did they look so unhappy why has he been moping around you know, walking around very unhappy with such a long face . Did someone die or something ? You know it's the way people may talk sometimes. Okay. Good and number four here. Bob has been wearing a long face ever since he realized how much money he lost after that stock he invested in you know, lost a lot of money, basically. So yeah sometimes if we use a verb with it we might say that somebody is wearing a long face. Okay. Anyway I hope you got it. I hope is clear. Thank you for your time. Bye-bye.
