Subtitles section Play video Print subtitles Hi this is Tutor Nick P and this is Verb Phrase 151. The very phrase today is to attest to. Okay. Let's look at the note here. If something attests to something else, it proves that it is definitely true. It can also mean that it certifies or bears witness to a fact. So again showing or proving that it is true. So let's continue here. Let's look at the note. This phrase is derived from... derived from means it comes from the Latin word attestari which literally meant to bear witness to. Yeah . I think like 'ad' or 'at' in Latin means basically to and teststari or something like that actually meant you know, bear witness. So it really comes from to bear witness to. This is also connected to the word Testament in English. We could say something is a testament to. Something. also shows proof to something else . So we have another word that's connected to the origin here. Okay. Anyway, let's take a look at several examples we have here. Number one, that video tape attested to his innocence. It confirms his alibi and proves that he could not have committed the crime because maybe there's a time date on that videotape and if he could prove he was not you know, in the place where maybe some murder or some other crime happened. Okay. Number two here. Though , through peer reviews, many other scientists have attested to the validity of his claimed results. Yeah. Now when one scientists proves something , usually it should get peer reviewed by other scientists. They should be able to follow the same steps and pretty much get the same results or almost the same results. So that's what happened. So maybe a number of them tested what he said. They followed the same steps and they got the same results. So they get they attested to the validity of his claimed results So yeah. It's true it really does work this is the results you'll get. Okay. Let's look at number three here. Many people on the Internet attested to the effectiveness of that therapy. Okay. it's another way. Maybe they say , Yeah that therapy really proves it really worked. Maybe they showed before and after results or something like that. Or the last one here number four. His ability to lift the car with his bare hands ... and he was able to (lifting moans )lift the whole car off the ground you know, without any tools or equipment or anything like that. Attests to his strength. So it proves how much strength he really has. That he's able to do this. Just with his bare hands. Okay. Anyway, I hope you got it. I hope its clear. Thank you for your time. Bye-bye.
