Today we're going to be learning five phrases that's going to make your English sound more British.

I promise you are going to love it.

Alright guys, let's get started.

Here are five phrases to make your English sound more British.

First phrase, cheers.

Now most people know this as a way to say good wishes just before you drink.

So you have a drink and you go 'cheers' and that's a normal use.

But in British English we also use it to say thank you.

So for example, you help me to do something I would say 'cheers for your help'.

Or I might say at the end of this lesson 'cheers for watching guys' and that just means thank you for watching.

Ok let's say it together 'cheers'.

Number two, 'nice one!' This is a lovely phrase to show your approval or that your happy about a situation.

So for example 'Dad's going to take us to the airport tomorrow' 'Nice one!'

Or another example 'Don't forget we've got a holiday next week' 'Nice one!'

Number three, 'knackered'.

I love this phrase, this is a great word.

Some of you will remember I taught this before.

It means very tired.

So maybe you've been at work all day and you get home and you tell your partner 'Ah I'm knackered' just means I'm very tired.

Number four, 'rubbish'.

Now in British English this can mean trash like in American English or it can mean not very good.

So let's say you've just gone to see a film and you didn't think it was very good you could say 'That film was rubbish'.

Number five, 'blimey!' This is an expression we use to show surprise or excitement.

Similar to oh my god! or OMG! So I might look at my watch and go 'Blimey! Is that the time!'
