As a Social Worker Kent offers excellent career opportunities and a great work life balance. "I think it's very good to live in Kent because the job can be stressful and Kent is quite a relaxed area and well living here I am able to switch off from my job really and relax. I work near the seafront so it's quite nice every day going to work and pass the sea. There's a lot of different cultures where I work and we work for different complex families, so it's very good experience really". Debra Wright spent 10 years working in London before moving to Kent for a better quality of life. "I worked in London for the last 10 years and that it was very busy and I wasn't enjoying it as much and I just wanted a slower pace of life, but still with the challenge of Social work. Driving to and from your appointments is quite different from driving in London because your just driving through gorgeous little villages and the scenery is amazing". Kent is home to nearly 350,000 children whose welfare is at heart of everything we do. At Kent County Council we know our Social Workers are committed to giving Kent's Children the best hopes for the future. We invest in our Social Workers, offering attractive pay and conditions and fantastic career development opportunities. "At the moment I'm hoping to pursue my practice educator training then go and develop the special child care award and hopefully move on to do my masters and PhD here. The managers give me the time for it and I've got the resources, the materials, so Kent is a good area to develop in". We know everyone has tough days but our Social Workers are part of a close knit team who are supported every step of the way. "I have a very good team and very good managers and we have good structure in our work and I think its, well make us feel safe really so its easy to get settled". "There are loads of facilities for children in Kent and families that we never had while we were living in London. So we have that here, we are able be a lot more together as a family, than being a lot of distractions like in other cities, that are not in Kent. So my children are actually thriving, educationally, socially, in every way so, that's one good thing that you know I can't pay for. It's brilliant". Kent is a large busy and diverse County where there are real opportunities for career progression. Suzanna King moved to Kent from Yorkshire to become an Assistant Director for the East of County. "I was looking for a challenge and I was particularly interested in an Assistant Director Post. I'd heard about the challenges that Kent was experiencing and I was very aware of the fact that it's a large local authority and it's invested extremely heavily in Social Care. I knew a little bit about Kent, although I've actually spent most of my life in Yorkshire but I was very keen to move because it's fantastic countryside, I was very interested in all the communications routes, its got good rail access, its got good motorways. You can get to the content extremely easily. In fact on my way to work I can see the coast line of France which is fantastic". Kent's Childrens services are determined to keep improving and we are committed to becoming an outstanding service which delivers the best we can for vulnerable young people. "what we want is to offer a much better lot, much better opportunities for the next generation of children and if we can do that by helping strengthen the potential parenting skills of the children we are dealing with now that will achieve it". "So this is an authority and a service that is really starting to go places, we are united, we are at one, we know where we are heading. What we are looking for is the right people, with the right enthusiasm to join us and be part of it". If you're looking for a new challenge, if you share our vision Kent's Children and if you want a wonderful place to live and work why not join us.
