STATE CAPITOL REPORTER RESHAD HUDSON TAKES A CLOSER LOOK AT AMENDMENT ONE. RESHAD: ALABAMA IS ONE OF SIX STATES WITH AN ELECTED STATE SCHOOL, NEXT TUESDAY VOTERS WILL HAVE A SAY IF WHETHER THE STATE SHOULD KEEP IT THAT WAY. AMENDMENT ONE WOULD CHANGE THE STATE SCHOOL BOARD FROM ELECTED TO APPOINTED BY THE GOVERNOR. "What we're actually asking the people to do is put their responsibility in us. Right now the people make that choice and in that group determines school policy" THE AMENDMENT CREATES THE "ALABAMA COMMISSION ON ELEMENTARY AND SECONDARY EDUCATION." CHANGES "STATE SUPERINTENDEN T OF EDUCATION" TO THE "SECRETARY OF ELEMENTARY AND SECONDARY EDUCATION." AND LASTLY IT WOULD REQUIRED THE ADOPTION OF DIFFERENT EDUCATION STANDARDS INSTEAD OF "COMMON CORE" NOT ALL VOTERS SUPPORT THIS AMENDMENT, BECKY GERRITSON IS ONE OF THEM. "The regular Joe's that I see out on the streets, people that I go to church with people, my neighbors that asked me about this, they all want to vote no, they don't think it's right to take away the right to vote" HERE ARE A FEW STATES THAT HAVE LIKE MASSACHUSETTS , NEW HAMPSHIRE, NEW JERSEY, VIRGINIA, FLORIDA, INDIANA, VERMONT, SOUTH DAKOTA, IOWA THAT HAVE APPOINTED SCHOOL BOARDS, SUPPORTERS POINT THEIR SUCCESS IN EDUCATION.
