  • Hello, everyone.

  • Welcome to another video.

  • Now, Back in 2000 and 13 AMG launched what would be the most powerful card in there.

  • 7000.

  • Siri's lineup.

  • PhD 79 90.

  • This is a pretty beastie card, and back in the day, it was designed to compete with the likes of invidious G Tech 6 90 often coming close or sometimes outperforming in certain benchmarks.

  • Now this is a jeweled GPU card and features to radio on 79 seventies in Crossfire on one single Bold.

  • And these days, well, it could be found cheaper than you may think.

  • See, it seems that s L.

  • I and Crossfire are both dying technologies.

  • They're not implemented that often anymore.

  • And when they are, they don't always allow the games to scale very well.

  • It'll there are sometimes performance issues, But those of you with SL on Crossfire set up out there.

  • We'll probably have something to say about that.

  • This being a badge, it channel.

  • I don't endorse having two cards.

  • I mean, that's very expensive until I say these days, it isn't always that necessary.

  • But let's take a closer look at this card because I think it's a very interesting piece of technology.

  • So let's get into it, talk a little more about the 79 90 and then talk about the ups and downs.

  • The positives and negatives of using something like this in 2000 and 18 when running modern and demanding games.

  • Jule Gp used like this unpredictably priced on the used market.

  • See, while they're not necessarily obsolete, many consumers can be put off by their usually large power requirements, she sighs.

  • And the fact that crossfire or S L I, as I mentioned before, can be unpredictable and sometimes broken altogether.

  • On the other hand, collectors such as myself are happy to bay a little more for such cards because of what they are or how uncommon they might be.

  • I know I can't resist bidding on hardware like this, and all it takes is two people in a bidding war to push.

  • The price is way up, so I must have paid over the odds for this right?

  • Don't be silly.

  • As you know, I love a good deal on this particular 79 90 was being sold for just £60 listed as spares or repair because it kept crashing the system when opening games.

  • Now it's never a brilliant idea to buy so called 40 cards.

  • But I was pretty certain I knew what was wrong with this one before buying it.

  • The card itself wasn't the issue.

  • See, packing to 79 seventies onto a single board is a cool concept, but it's one that in practice potentially causes a few different problems.

  • Overheating and juicy power requirements, to name just two.

  • I am the recommend a 750 What ps you for this thing?

  • So I knew my 650 what course Air one wouldn't cut it.

  • It was time to bring out the big guns.

  • Now, I was a little worried when I managed to knock an extra fiver off the price of this 79 90 on was told I could collect because it was located at a local P C repair shop near me here in Kent.

  • If people who have been specializing in hardware for years say it's broken, then it must be right.

  • Well, the whole shut off in games issue led me to believe this bad boy wasn't getting enough power, likely because it was tested on a p s.

  • You that was either too weak or just a terrible one.

  • With that in mind, I connected up my newly acquired Be quiet 850 what 80 plus rated unit all be in a rather hasty fashion and hope for the best.

  • So far, so good.

  • We got as far as promised.

  • Installing the driver's required a couple of attempts before the AMG software allowed me to enable Crossfire.

  • And after restarting the system a couple of times, we were up and running on the adrenaline.

  • 18.5 point one software.

  • So let's talk about specs before getting into games.

  • This card, code named Mortar Features to 79 seventies and a combined six gigs of G d.

  • D R five v Ram.

  • It's clocked at 1000 megahertz with a memory cook of 1500.

  • I was pleased to see and hear that it runs very quiet that idol, thanks to those three beefy fans.

  • Now, though, let's talk about the state of gaming with a jeweled GPU in 2000 and 18.

  • So I have to say that in situations where Crossfire works, it really is great to use.

  • The car does get warm and a little noisy, and I've left the temperature on screen for you to take a look at.

  • But even so, it's still makes very light work of some titles like Metro Last Like Re Ducks here these days, a jewel card like this condemn finitely seem like a gimmick and more trouble than it's worth.

  • But there's something about using it that's just really cool and exciting.

  • Sure, it could be very temperamental and finicky, but I think part of my excitement here is that the card is actually working without crashing the system, as was described in the eBay at I guess I was right about it, needing more power, looking back at Metro Last Light here, and as you can see during this outdoor level, the game averaged way over 100 frames per second, using the higher preset.

  • Now I'm using this card with the usual rise and 5 1606 core CPU, which really is allowing our GPU here to reach its maximum potential and s ally Sorry Crossfire in this game works really quite well.

  • A more modern title, Far Cry five, which is probably the most recent release on today's game play list also ran very well at the high settings.

  • Preset now.

  • Once again, we were running at 10 a teepee with 100% resolution scaling, so I'm pretty happy with this result here.

  • It's nice to see that far cry.

  • Five will work on a jeweled GPU set up without any issues.

  • A toll.

  • Now I know this one's a slightly older release, but I couldn't test another Dupee you without having a look back at 2000 seven's crisis, a game that even today still melts certain graphics cards when you turn the settings way up.

  • I'm only joking, of course, but at very high settings here, it certainly gave our card a run for its money on.

  • We saw quite a few dips below 60 F.

  • P s, not to mention an odd Crossfire glitch.

  • The sky seemed to have some sort of issue here throughout my game playoff this fairly early on level sewer.

  • I played it for about an hour, and yet its problems seemed to persist, so it was definitely a Crossfire issue is when I disabled the second graphics card are a lovely, flickering sky here, decided to go away, moving onto GT five and again, it was a pretty perfect example of how Crossfire should be done.

  • 10 80 Pay Very high settings.

  • Thegame rent perfectly.

  • I drove from one end of the map to the other, from the countryside to the middle of the city, and there were no hiccups whatsoever.

  • We saw a very nice average here.

  • I decided to get a few police chases, helicopters, six stars, the lot and even under those are fairly intensive circumstances.

  • The game's still run it very well, with no hiccups whatsoever.

  • GT five runs perfectly on the 79 90 jewel, 79 70 Crossfire set up.

  • Now let's go back to the issue of Crossfire not working.

  • Let's say that the game you want to play doesn't support Crossfire, and you're running a card like this.

  • Well, what will happen is the game will just use one card here.

  • Basically, we're using just 1 80 79 17 So the question becomes not.

  • How good is the 79 90 in modern games?

  • But how good is a 79 70 in modern games?

  • And thankfully, that solo cards still holds up quite well as well Because here in Mafia three.

  • The game ran pretty well.

  • High settings.

  • This is a game not known for its incredibly optimized performance.

  • So I was happy to see that even at the high Priest set, we did have a great time.

  • Don't forget that a single 79 70 was also a pretty high in card when it came out as well, so it should hold up fairly well in a lot of today's modern titles, even a 10 80 p high settings.

  • Another example of where this was true was in Wolfenstein, to which I set to the highest settings at 10 a teepee, and we saw an average that far exceeded 60 f.

  • P s even again with just one card in operation.

  • And as you can see, even a solo 79 70 holds up pretty well.

  • And it's nice to have the option to use that additional onboard GPU.

  • Should we come across the game that requires it or can utilize it now?

  • Fortnight certainly suited its name here today because it took a fortnight before I could regain control of my computer after what was a chain of crashes I fired this game up on, we experienced crash after crash, The death stop crushed to a black screen.

  • When the screen came back on, we was at a totally different resolution.

  • I really don't know what was going on.

  • I thought this was the problem that was described in the eBay.

  • Add maybe the game tested Waas fortnight with slightly older drivers.

  • Now it turns out the problem here was that Crossfire was still enabled in the control center fortnight.

  • I don't believe supports Crossfire.

  • Or at least it didn't work for me here.

  • Onda Turning Crossfire off manually in the I Am the Radion Settings was the only way to eliminate these crashes, after which it ran perfectly on a solo 79 70 far exceeding my expectations once again.

  • So it just goes to show that even a a soul, 79 70 concealed a pretty good job off running modern titles.

  • So there we have it.

  • Well, I think I've concluded that an older George GPU card like this can't always be utilized, especially in a lot of newer games.

  • It is handy tohave should you come across a title that can make four years off both graphics cards.

  • Furthermore, it's nice to see that a solo 79 70 can still hold its own.

  • And it may be worth thinking about just purchasing one of those if you're after an older yet still capable high and card.

  • But considering the money we paid for this one, I'm pretty happy with the 79.

  • 90.

  • Andi, I hope you guys have enjoyed the video, too, as a waste.

  • If you did leave a like when it down below, leave a dislike.

  • If you didn't let me know if you've ever had one of these or still running one of these or any other crossfire or SL I set up in your system, subscribe to the channel if you haven't done so already, and hopefully I'll see all of you in the next video.
