MIKE DEWINE: "AND THIS DISEASE CONTINUES TO EVOLVE, MAKING IT ALL THE MORE IMPORTANT THAT AS THINGS CHANGE, WE CONTINUE TO WORK WITH OUR LOCAL PARTNERS TO COMMUNICATE INFORMATION TO THE PUBLIC." DANIELLE: TONIGHT- MORE THAN 200 PEOPLE ARE BEING MONITORED IN OHIO FOR POSSIBLE CORONAVIRUS SYMTOMS. NOW-- GOVERNOR MIKE DEWINE IS LAYING OUT WHAT THE STATE PLANS TO DO IF THE CORONAVIRUS SPREADS HERE AND HEALTH OFFICIALS SAY THAT IS A POSSIBLITY. GOOD EVENING. I'M DANIELLE AVITABLE. OUR OHIO STATEHOUSE REPORTER JASON AUBRY IS IN CLEVELAND WHERE THE GOVERNOR MADE THE ANNOUNCEMENT THIS AFTERNOON. JASON AUBRY, REPORTING: A SENSE OF URGENCY IS WHAT GOVERNOR DEWINE WANTS ALL OHIOANS TO HAVE ABOUT THE THREAT OF CORONAVIRUS AND HE IS ASKING FOR EVERYONE TO TAKE STEPS TO PREVENT ITS SPREAD. HE HAS ORDERED STATE AGENCIES TO TAKE EXTRA PRECAUTIONS AND IS ASKING THE PRIVATE SECTOR TO DO THE SAME BY BEING FLEXIBLE WITH EMPLOYEES WHEN THEY ARE SICK. AS FOR IF YOU GET SICK THE HEALTH DEPARTMENT CONTINUES TO PROMOTE BEST PRACTICES LIKE WASHING YOUR HANDS, COVERING YOUR COUGH, AND NOT COMING INTO CONTACT WITH PEOPLE. WHILE THE CORONAVIRUS MAY SEEM SCARY, OFFICIALS POINT OUT 10 PEOPLE HAVE DIED IN THE LAST THREE WEEKS JUST FROM THE REGULAR FLU, AND DEWINE SAYS WE ARE AT A GREATER RISK OF GETTING THAT THEN THE CORONAVIRUS RIGHT NOW. THE HEAD OF THE OHIO DEPT OF HEALTH PUTS THINGS INTO PERSPECTIVE. DR. AMY ACTON / DIR. OF OHIO DEPT. OF HEALTH: "IT'S A LITTLE MORE DANGEROUS THAN THE FLU, BUT IT'S NOT AS DANGEROUS AS THINGS WE SEEN IN THE PAST LIKE YOU HAVE DEALT WITH HERE, LIKE EBOLA OR SARS OR MIRS" JASON AUBRY, REPORTING: SHE RECOMMENDS YOU HAVE TWO WEEKS WORTH OF REGULAR MEDICINES, AND FOOD IN CASE YOU GET SICK, AND TO STOCK UP ON COLD AND FLU MEDICINE NOW AND NOT WAIT UNTIL YOUR SICK TO GO TO THE STORE. LOCAL FOR YOU IN CLEVELAND JA NBC 4 DANIELLE: BOTH OF OHIO'S SENATORS TOLD US TODAY THE FEDERAL GOVERNMENT HAS TO BE READY TO RESPOND TO THE CORONA VIRUS CRISIS WITH MORE FUNDING - AND LESS POLITICS. SEN. ROB PORTMAN: THE HOSPITALS ARE COORDINATING WELL ACCORDING TO THE DEPARMENT OF HEALTH AND ACCORDING TO SOME OF THE HOSPITALS I'M TALKING TO, BUT THEY COULD USE SOME MORE FUNDING. UNFORTUNATELY THIS IS THE KIND OF PROBLEM THAT IF YOU DON'T PROVIDE THE FUNDING UP FRONT YOU COULD HAVE A MUCH BIGGER PROBLEM. SO I TYHINK WE SHOULD PROVIDE THE NECESSARY FUNDING. I DON'T KNOW WHAT THAT NUMBER IS BUT LETS TAKE THE POLITICS OUT OF IT, DECIDE WHAT THE NEEDS ARE AND PROVIDE THE FUNDING. NAME: "BITE VERBATIM." 3:45 WHAT YOU HEAR OUT OF THE WHITE HOUSE FROM THE POLITICAL PEOPLE IS DIFFERENT FROM WHAT YOU ARE HEARING WITH THE PUBLIC HEALTH OFFICIALS, THE DOCTORS THE EPIDEMIOLOGISTS THE PUBLIC HEALTH WORKERS WHO KNOW THESE THINGS AND I WISH THE PRESIDENT WOULD START LISTEN TO OUR PUBLIC HEALTH OFFICIALS TO DEAL WITH THIS CRISIS INSTEAD OF RELYING ON ELECTED OFFICIALS LIKE KEN CUCCINELLI AND MIKE PENCE. 4:05 DANIELLE: THE CORONAVIRUS OUTBREAK SENT STOCKS PLUNGING AGAIN TODAY ON WALL STREET AS THE WEEK-LONG MARKET ROUTE CONTINUED. DANIELLE: THE DOW LOST NEARLY 12-HUNDRED POINTS. THE S-AND-P SHED 147.. AND, THE NASDAQ FELL 414 POINTS.
