Marty: I started the season off 4 and 0.

And then, uh...

then it happened.

We were just making lunch.

Kate had asked me to grab the pickles.

I opened them like you would any normal jar.

(Crack, low-pitched scream)

Doctor said I'd be out for...

the rest of the season.

You know, when you hear it, you don't believe it.

This was supposed to be my breakout year.

I've been through some pretty bad injuries

in my career before, but this was really unexpected.

It's been a different sort of a year for us.

- Rebuilding. Rebuilding year. - Yeah.

Kate: You use your thumbs for a lot more stuff

than you think.

I'm just so impressed with Marty, he's been working so hard

and he is determined to get back out there this season.

It's... it's incredible.

(Groaning)

(Relieved exhalations)

Thank you... oh, no...

Marty: I underestimated how much this injury

would teach me as a player

and as a person.

It's something that I'm not going to take for granted.

(Sigh)
