  • Welcome to this edition of off script myself Jack Wilkinson and Michael Richards here in the tunnel where Old Trafford this week.

  • We're focusing on the lives of English football.

  • It's playing abroad.

  • And that's something that we didn't think we'd associate with your career when you came through.

  • It may interest you see, within their fake art and going on to win the Premier League.

  • Talk us through how that moved to Fiorentina came about and what it was like leaving a club.

  • You've been at my right insane since the age of 14.

  • Yeah, I was there for every new about my injuries and couldn't really get back on the pitch, so it sort of came out of the blue.

  • Really?

  • Somebody worked at Liverpool that went to Fiorentina, put a call into Major on, asked like, Would you be interested in going on?

  • At first, I was like, not really because, you know, all I know is his English football.

  • I didn't really want to leave city, but Zabaleta was playing really well at the time.

  • I mean, I was gonna be second choice.

  • Um, I went to go meet Major and sat down with them way agreed it, but it was on deadline day, so it was all a bit a bit of a rush.

  • But now I'm glad I did it.

  • It made me a better person about playing for sure.

  • Talkers proved what that's like when you arrive in Italy and we've seen before.

  • Like Mass like crowds.

  • The airport's a Japanese of that.

  • What with a big cultural differences between English football in Italian football.

  • No one really knew what was coming because it was deadline day.

  • So everything was a bit of a little hush hush on Muncie didn't really want to let me go.

  • They wanted me t o get back from injuries and try five from my spot.

  • But like I said, he's playing too well.

  • So I knew in my head that I needed to do something and telling football's very, very under age.

  • It's a lot slower.

  • Obviously, when me kick off in the season, it's like four degrees and it was with tempo of the game is a lot slower on the defensive side of it.

  • Everyone stays behind the ball on Dhe at that time can be quite boring to watch, but technically and tactically I'd say is up there with a family.

  • Def.

  • Definitely.

  • Tactically, I'd say he's bad and family, but they just don't have the excitement of the Premier Li.

  • But yet, if you see Chris Smalling going over there is Love is playing really well.

  • Actually, I was going over there in the car, comes back.

  • He goes over there so it does look like another, meaning players are taken now because I think a couple of years ago players English play especially wouldn't want to go abroad.

  • But everyone's a bit more open to it now.

  • That brings me on to the next question.

  • Jaden San Chose had a similar start to his footballing careers.

  • You come through the ranks at Mattress City and before taking the plunge to go and play abroad, would you?

  • I'm sure you agree with me.

  • It's been an undoubted success.

  • A doorman looking back at your career.

  • Is it something you wish you'd embarked on earlier?

  • James Sancho.

  • He's he was confident of to take that leap so early and I don't think my parents would have allowed me having I would have had that many options at the age, but I didn't need to leave City because I was playing first team at 17.

  • So the scenarios are a little bit different.

  • But fair play to Sancho is gone there.

  • He wanted to play it, see players.

  • He had informants.

  • See, it was never really going to get in, so I took a plunge.

  • Look, he's worth 100 million minimum now, so yeah, I've got a lot of respect for him.

  • A lot of credit credit to him and his agent and his family for making that decision last one from May.

  • Those clubs up and down the country, the academy's a pack full of young English talent.

  • What advice would you give to them if the opportunity to play a board abroad come about?

  • I think it all depends on what team.

  • Really?

  • Because if you're going to a top team and you're gonna get when you win when you're in Italy, if you don't see telling football, you No, no, don't say over here so you could have unbelievable game world again and no one could see it.

  • You only get in clips off little snippets off YouTube and stuff like that.

  • Unless someone's really doing their homework.

  • Are you playing for into event A C or a Fiorentina.

  • Roman, you know, really?

  • Get in there.

  • The plaudits he should be.

  • So I would say, definitely take that leap of faith.

  • But just make sure the clubs right.

  • Some words of advice.

  • And did Michael, that was your first off script.

  • Enjoy it.

  • Thank you very much.

  • Thanks for your time and thank you at home for watching.
