  • like, he said.

  • Not a lot of Washingtonians necessarily used to that.

  • So maybe in the future, with other primaries, we will see an even higher turnout.

  • But again, right now, statewide, we're seeing a very narrow race.

  • Bernie Sanders and lead by just a couple 100 votes.

  • Joe Biden.

  • Hang in there.

  • It's It's been a pretty I would say That's not a great sign for Bernie Sanders.

  • And he hasn't been really seeing Granny Great signs today.

  • Yeah, this has kind of been referred to.

  • March 10th is like a mini super Tuesday, six states voting in their primaries tonight.

  • I understand our producer telling us we have some results to show you once again if you could pull those up full screen right now.

  • So this is the presidential primary for Washington State wide.

  • Look at that.

  • Now, Bernie Sanders, now in the lead of and these are obviously you separated by about 1200 votes right now.

  • Yeah, this razor thin.

  • Very interesting and that it is very much interesting because Bernie Sanders Washington State was a big stronghold for him in 2016.

  • And this year he's not having as good a performance, though he is still in the lead right now, and he's going to get quite a few delegates from the state of Washington.

  • The question is, will be enough delegates to keep him in the race.

  • The momentum right now for him?

  • Certainly.

  • Yeah.

  • 89 delegates up for grabs total in Washington State, 29 to hold the big prize kind of tonight was Michigan.

  • Understand?

  • With Michigan was the big one tonight, 125 delegates up for grabs and Joe Biden winning every single county in the state of Michigan.

  • Right now, that really seemed to kind of turn the tide.

  • You can see there.

  • Joe Biden, 54 39.

  • Joe Biden kind of separated from the field first during Super Tuesday.

  • We first saw him gain momentum in the South Carolina primary.

  • He won Super Tuesday.

  • Quite a few states.

  • Bernie did win California, which was huge.

  • But in Super Tuesday, Biden started to separate.

  • And now here you could make a case that Michigan is kind of the final blow to the Sanders campaign.

  • It will be very difficult for Sanders to come back, but a huge win in Washington could mean is kind of like last hanging on point.

  • Sure.

  • Hey, stick with us because we have a question from a viewer right now, we want to go to right now about kind of this primary process with the ballots in Washington.

  • Casey, A lot of folks uncomfortable with declaring a party on the outside of their ballot.

  • Yeah, the question there about why it has to be on the outside of the envelope.

  • And ironically enough, the answer is to protect your privacy.

  • Now, it might seem a little weird toe, have you know your party affiliation and your signature on the outside of the ballot for anyone, Really?

  • Just the mailman to see right.

  • But the thing is, when they count the ballots, they want to have the actual ballot separate from any indication of what your name is, who you are.

  • They don't want those two things to be connected and all when they're actually tabulating the balance.

  • We need them to be separate.

  • And so they have to make sure that anything of the signature anything of that could identify you is on the envelope or outside, not attached to the ballot.

  • So even though it seems like maybe that is invasion of your privacy.

  • The argument for it is that it protects your privacy.

  • So we mentioned statewide right now.

  • Sanders in the lead narrowly versus Biden.

  • What about our local results?

  • Okay.

  • Spokane County elections office.

  • There was a line out the door there earlier tonight leading up to eight o'clock tonight.

  • Very, very busy.

  • Crime to Houston Fan has been there pretty much all evening.

  • He's joining us now.

  • Live with how everything went and as they continue to count those ballots.

  • Tim Yeah.

  • You guys down to the last minute.

  • Someone walked in here 30 seconds before the polls.

  • We're going to close and he got his vote in, but yeah, this place was bustling earlier, and it's much quieter now.

  • And I got a really commend the Spokane County election office.

  • They move quick here because as soon as the the door's closed and we're locked within minutes, they gave us the results that we could bring it to you.

  • So they are working very hard, and they say they will be out of here by 9 30 tonight, counting all the votes.

  • And then by tomorrow morning, obviously more votes will come in.

  • But as you guys were just talking about with the concern people have with their ballots and choosing a party and signing it.

  • This is a sample ballot, the one that got rejected essentially, and it was actually the parties that decided to have it on the outside of the envelope.

  • So, you know, a lot of people came in frustrated today, saying, you know, why are you guys making a sign and declare our party?

  • Well, it was actually both the Republican and Democratic parties and the Legislature that approved that process toe happen on the outside of the envelope.

  • Nonetheless, people who did not do one of those things signed the oath or pick a party.

  • The those ballots are rejected, at least for now, because and we're told that 5% of Washingtonians who participated in this election did not follow the steps properly, and that's just from what they've received so far.

  • So you might be receiving a notification that you might need Thio fix your ballot, otherwise your vote won't count.

  • So, as we've been telling you, both parties, primaries are listed on the same ballot in Washington this time around.

  • But you could only pick one or the other to vote in, and you had to sign that statement on the envelope promising you didn't vote for both.

  • So again, this is a new process.

  • Election officials are very aware of that and that there's gonna be a learning curve.

  • So if your ballot is rejected, you'll get a second chance.

  • A letter will be sent to you, Uh, if you have an incomplete ballot, giving you one more opportunity to correct the mistake.

  • Now.

  • There's also another question that I've been seeing a lot on.

  • Social media and people.

  • Wondering is, What about the candidates on the Democratic side that have since dropped out?

  • What happens to your vote if you chose one of them?

  • While election officials tell me that these ballots were printed actually two months ago, and it's up to the party to decide what to do with those results?

  • There are names on the ballot that have since dropped out, and it will be up to the Democratic Party to decide what to do with those votes.

  • But we will count every boat as marked for each one of those candidates, and report that to the Democratic Party.

  • So far, thousands of letters have been sent out to voters, letting them know that their ballot was rejected.

  • So if you do receive one of those letters, you only have until March 19th to fix the mistake and then get it back to your election office by the 19th of this month because they certify the results on March 20th.

  • So you'll want to make sure you do that if you want your vote counted.

  • Interestingly, right now, voter turnout in Spokane County is still sitting around 40% or so about 39% which is actually very comparable to the West Side.

  • Right now, King County is sitting at 40% although the Spokane auditor tells me that they anticipate that number to go up closer to 50% here in Spokane County for this primary election, which is good turnout, she tells me.

  • But for now, reporting live in Spokane County.

  • I'm Tim Fam creme to news.

  • All right, Tim, thank you very much.

  • We know that the early returns have just come in starting at eight.

  • About 8 15 tonight, not including all of the ballots that were dropped in all of the post office boxes and in all of the drop boxes located around the county.

  • Yeah, just initial returns.

  • Are Casey Decker standing by right behind us, kind of in his election center tonight with those initial returns from Spokane County Case.

  • Yeah, guys.

  • And right now you mentioned initial return Spokane County.

  • What we're seeing is that about 117,000 ballots have been counted with about 10,000 more to go, so I wouldn't expect a whole lot of change in the outcomes here.

  • Then again, the outcomes are pretty narrow.

  • Let's go and take a look at the Spokane County results again, as we mentioned before.

  • Joe Biden currently with a Barrow.

  • Very narrow victory.

  • Just 228 votes.

  • Not even victory.

  • Just a lead right now.

  • 228 votes over Bernie Sanders.

  • Mike Bloomberg.

  • Also coming in with 15% right now.

  • That's a pretty interesting number right there, considering he is no longer in the race.

  • A lot of people filling out their ballots before candidates like Bloomberg, Warren Klobuchar, Buddha judge started dropping out and work and we can see here it's enough that it's arguably is changing the outcome of these races in Spokane County.

  • At least right now, though, Biden, with a very narrow lead about 10,000 votes still left account in Spokane County.

  • And they want to actually show you one county that I was just looking at.

  • That really surprised me here.

  • This was incredibly interesting to me.

  • Douglas County right now, Douglas County one by Bernie Sanders in 2016 73 26.

  • Right now, Douglas County is being won by Michael Bennett.

  • Michael Bennett is somebody who dropped out of the race weeks ago, and we said We just actually now got new results.

  • This was the original results.

  • Michael Bennett was winning.

  • He had 20 votes.

  • Now we've got an updated results a little more normal.

  • We're seeing Joe Biden right now with 34 Bernie Sanders of 29 Michael Bloomberg with 14 there.

  • So Spokane County, right now going to Biden, Bernie Sanders with just a couple 100 votes behind, and we'll take one more.

  • Look now at King County.

  • King County, also obviously a big decider in a lot of these elections, going to Bernie Sanders in 2016 and we'll go ahead and take a look at King County.

  • Now hear how it's looking in 2020.

  • Bernie Sanders still winning this time, though not by a lot.

  • And we saw Michael Bloomberg with 15% in Spokane County in King County.

  • It's different 15% winner Elizabeth Warren, but she also dropped out of the race.

  • So again, a lot of folks, in this case, at least 60,000 nearly 60,000 people voting before these candidates dropped out, or even maybe deciding to vote for them even after they had dropped out.

  • And finally, one more county now that I want to look at.

  • And that's Whitman County just to our south here, the area where Pullman is at Washington State is that Whitman County went very heavily to Bernie Sanders In 2016 you see their 79% Hillary Clinton just 20%.

  • And this year it is actually still one of Bernie Sanders Best County.

  • So far now, obviously, only a few 1000 votes in this county altogether so far.

  • Bernie Sanders, 39 Joe Biden only coming in with 17 and Elizabeth Warren, also with 17.

  • So Bernie Sanders, still doing pretty well in Whitman County this year, even though he's comparably struggling compared to 2016 in some of those other gears will send it back to you.

  • Mark it, Whitney.

  • We could bring you back up here to the set to kind of join us real quick.

  • I got a question for you because this year, as he pointed out, Washington and Idaho went to a primary versus the caucus.

  • You seem kind of What you're saying is that means turnout is probably higher.

  • But I guess what?

  • The ballots went out weeks ago, at least of Washington.

  • So a lot of these candidates are in the race right now and that that could have an impact.

  • Yeah, absolutely.

  • It is one of the thing.

  • One of the possible downfalls that we knew about going into this switching to the primary and specifically switching to the vote by mail system.

  • Right.

  • Because in Idaho, if you're actually going to the polls, you're probably not voting for somebody who just saw dropped out of the race.

  • But if you get your ballot two weeks ago and you're filling it out in the kitchen table and you're saying I like Elizabeth Warren a lot, I don't care what the polls say.

  • Like right now, that's my candidate.

  • Resend that it.

  • And then two days later, she drops out.

  • Well, what happens now?

  • Earlier today, I think that the Spokane County elections Office they were saying that it's up to the party to decide how they will handle the delegates that went to those candidates who have now dropped out right, And I believe the way the Democratic Party organizes this is, at least in the convention on the first ballot, when all the delegates make their first vote, any candidate who's won any delegates, even if they dropped out later, those delegates are still there.

  • So they still goto Warren or Buddha judge or whoever Now after that.

  • If, say, Joe Biden has one has a majority of the delegates, then Joe Biden's one.

  • He's the nominee.

  • But if nobody has a majority of the delegates after that first round, then they vote again.

  • And when they vote again, all the delegates can basically just vote for whoever they want, whether they were originally for Warren or Buddha judge or Byner, whoever.

  • And so then it becomes just basically a fight to win over specific Don't.

  • If you're just joining us, we're live stream kind.

  • The initial election results from Washington, Washington and Idaho primaries tonight.

  • You're looking at the statewide results so far.

  • Senator Bernie Sanders up just narrowly against Joe Biden here.

  • And Casey, I also want to ask you about obviously, we're focusing on the Democratic candidates versus President.

  • Donald Trump was obviously running on the Republican ticket because he virtually faces no competition.

  • Yeah, he actually in the state of Washington.

  • He literally faces no competition.

  • It was up to the parties to decide how people are going to be named on the ballot, and the Republican Party decided we have an incumbent president.

  • We don't want anybody challenging him in the State of Washington Republican Party said, if you're voting in our primary, you're voting for Trump, That's your only option, or I guess, a write in candidate interesting stuff.

  • Okay, so six states holding their primaries tonight kind of a mini super Tuesday, we have results from Well, gosh, almost all six by now riding on the results from Idaho in Washington s So we know that we have what Michigan, of course, was the big prize of the night.

  • Missouri also, those states have already been called North Dakota.

  • Still, they were waiting on that one.

  • But we have Regina Aune, who is standing by live right now with some of the results from those other states.

  • Regina.

  • Hey, guys.

  • Well, you know, Pulls did close.

  • Officially, In all those six states, more than 300 delegates are at stake, and it's a winning night.

  • Four former vice president Joe Biden, especially in Michigan, where Bernie Sanders, as you recalled, was looking for a repeat victory.

  • Sanders won Michigan back in 2016 but it didn't go that way.

  • This time.

  • Biden is a projected winner there.

  • Many Biden supporters say they voted for him because he had a better chance or has a better chance at winning President Trump.

  • Biden is also the projected winner in Missouri and Mississippi.

  • Biden just spoke a few minutes ago, thinking his supporters and the Democratic runner ups for their support.

  • So money.

  • My incredibly cable competitors have endorsed me.

  • Mer, People Digits, Amy Coleman, Beto O'Rourke, Mike Bloomberg, Cory Booker and Kamala Harris.

  • Together, together, we're bringing this party together.

  • That's we have to do tonight.

  • We are a step closer, restoring decency, dignity and honor to the White House.

  • That's our ultimate goal.

  • And Biden's campaign did cancel an event in Tampa on Thursday over Corona virus concerns.

  • He will, however, deliver remarks on the Corona virus in his home state of Delaware.

  • Now speaking of Corona virus, CBS News exit polls show a majority of Democratic primary voters say Biden is the best candidate to handle a major crisis like Corona virus.

  • So for now, let's take a look at the most up to date results in the four other states, along with Idaho and Washington.

  • Here's Michigan again.

  • These are not final numbers were sitting at 54% for Joe Biden and Bernie Sanders, trailing at 38%.

  • Again 125 delegates there.

  • So the biggest prized state is Michigan.

  • Again, let's move on to Missouri, with 68 delegates available, 61% going to Joe Biden there.

  • So a big over half of the voters they're going for Biden.

  • Now let's turn to Mississippi with 36 delegates, 81% going for Biden there.

  • So, I mean, he's clearly taking the lead in Mississippi, as we mentioned earlier.

  • Now let's turn the page in North Dakota, you'll see a little bit of a different percentage here.

  • 14 delegates here.

  • North Dakota is the only state that leaning towards Bernie Sanders.

  • You'll see that 37% 878 voters there.

  • So we'll be sure to keep you updated tonight with those finals numbers going throughout the night.

  • It's still early in the evening.

  • Live the newsroom.

  • Regina Aune cramped in use.

  • Regina, thank you very much.

  • And Regina was talking there about Michigan, the biggest prize of the night.

  • And shortly after Michigan was declared for Joe Biden, it was announced.

  • It was reported.

  • New York Times reported, that Bernie Sanders was going to not speak tonight.

  • That's a pretty big development to me that signifies that, you know, things were not going the way they were hoping for where they were planning for tonight.

  • And if he's not speaking tonight, that seems to me that it's likely he's reassessing things right now.

  • So we'll see what ends up happening there.

  • But certainly not the night that the Sanders campaign Casey, thank you very much.

  • You mentioned the big prize.

  • Michigan Washington.

  • 89 delegates up for grabs, the state of Idaho, 20 delegates up for grabs.

  • We understand we have some initial returns now from the state of Idaho.

  • We want to go out to our well, there they are right there.

  • So look at that.

  • Joe Biden.

  • On the Democratic side, 44% of the vote so far, 35% Bernie Sanders.

  • So the good night continues for Joe Biden.

  • We have our Taylor Vita who is standing by.

  • He's been in North Idaho pretty much all day as voters who don't have a mail in ballot system.

  • But they do go to the directly to the polls.

  • Idaho.

  • As you said Mark.

  • 20 delegates up for grabs tonight.

  • Taylor Vital has been out covering those polling locations He's live now outside of the Kootenai County elections office.

  • Taylor.

  • We had guys, and throughout the day, slow and steady was kind of a slogan used by staff at polling locations in terms of the amount of voters showing up in casting their ballots today, three different potential ballots and really within the last hour or so 45 minutes about you know, here at the county elections office in Courtland, we've really seen lots of folks arrive here in their work is now just starting to begin, as those results will be coming down.

  • Of course, you've been mentioning some of the early results.

  • A lot of that likely from Southern Idaho.

  • The time zone there making a difference.

  • It is expected that President Trump won't have a hard time winning Idaho's GOP primary or the state in the November election.

  • As for the Democratic ticket, Idaho Democrats chose Bernie Sanders over Hillary Clinton in 2016.

  • We, of course, now will remain in tune will stay tuned to see what happens next.

  • Also today, Idaho voters had the option of voting in the Constitution Party primary if that happened to be there.

  • Party of choice, it's worth mentioning that some political analysts have noted that Idaho last year was the country's fastest growing state.

  • And with that, this election certainly has some new voters in Idaho.

  • One polling place earlier today told us that they had some new voters registered today, So something kind of unique immigrants to this state and all the voters coming to this state Now, all of this, you could argue someone of the calm before the storm before another primary.

  • That will happen in May in that primary voters in Idaho will decide on local and state races here in Kootenai County, specifically voters, we'll decide on candidates for county commissioner and sheriff.

  • So that's expected to be a certainly interesting race and one that will get a lot of local participation.

  • We're now reporting live outside the county elections office stealer.

  • Righto, Quentin News.

  • Thank you.

  • We just put that graphic up there briefly saw the results on the Republican side for the state of Idaho, obviously overwhelming for current President Donald Trump.

  • Not a lot of surprise there, really?

  • No candidate was actually running against Trump.

  • Let's take a look at him here a little longer.

  • Look, yeah, well, you're looking at the Michigan Democratic.

  • There we go.

  • There's GOP.

  • I'd Oh, yeah, Bill Weld from Massachusetts.

  • He decided to run.

  • Technically, he's not really running a very vigorous campaign.

  • Really, it's It's pretty rare to see anyone challenging incoming president, so not very surprising there.

  • And like we mentioned before, in fact, in the state of Washington, they said, we're not even gonna bother with that.

  • It's Trump robust.

  • Okay, back to Washington, obviously, the bulk of voters in King County No surprise right now, right?

  • We showed you what we have seen so far in Eastern Washington and north Idaho.

  • Now you wanna head overto western washing?

  • Absolutely.

  • Natalie, Sway B is at our sister station in Seattle.

  • She's at the King County elections office right now with more on how voting has gone over there.

  • Natalie?

  • Oh, yeah.

  • Here at King County elections headquarters, they say they've seen a record breaking turnout for a presidential primary.

  • Now you can see the doors here close it closed at eight o'clock.

  • But we want to show you some video from earlier.

  • Earlier tonight we saw people showing up, some to register and vote.

  • Others were dropping off their ballots.

  • And we were also in another area of the building tonight where they were processing the ballots.

  • We saw workers wearing gloves of requirement because of Corona virus concerns.

  • And in this room, ballots are carefully checked.

  • One thing workers are looking for voters must mark Democrat or Republican on their ballot, but still for so far about 24,000 people have failed to do that.

  • King County elections will be contacting those people because if it is not included on the ballot, it is considered invalid now.

  • One person voting today is Ron Jones of Seattle.

  • He says he's been encouraging people, especially young adults, to get their ballot.

  • I just know that from experience from the last election, a lot of young people that I talked to didn't want a certain party member, so they just didn't vote, which really made a big difference.

  • So that meant that the other party had an advantage for all these people that aren't voting.

  • King County elections tells me about half of the ballots will be tallied tonight.

  • Majority of the ballots should be counted by Friday.

  • Reporting tonight live from rent and I'll send it back to you.

  • All right, Natalie, thank you very much.

  • She talking also about the change in this year system from a caucus to a primary, A lot of voters struggling, either not understanding the importance of declaring the primary on that envelope or not wanting to do it right.

  • We heard right there the pro and the con of doing it this way.

  • The pro is you get a higher turnout because you don't have to get a baby sitter and actually go to a physical caucus.

  • The con is now You have to figure out this whole new system and the way that the state has decided to do it is you have to declare a party on the outside of the envelope lot of Washington voters who, you know, we don't have to register for parties in Washington.

  • We have our top two primary system for a normal election.

  • We're not used to having to declare a party.

  • And so a lot of people there independently minded, they don't want to do that.

  • And so they basically protest vote or even mistake boat and tens of thousands of votes not counting on.

  • And on top of that, the ballots in Washington at least went out several weeks ago where there are many more candidates still in the race who have since dropped out.

  • So a lot of that vote, you've got to imagine, went to the candidates.

  • Yeah, actually, if we take a look again at the Spokane County results, we can see something pretty interesting there where we see Biden and Bernie doing doing well.

  • They're number one in to Biden at number one and burning in number two.

  • But if we take a look there.

  • You see Mike Bloomberg, number three, and he's got 15%.

  • And that if it was a statewide number, would be enough to meet the threshold to get delegates.

  • Now.

  • It doesn't really work that way, county by County, but it's still a pretty impressive number.

  • And if any of that amount went to either one of those candidates, it would pretty easily break the tie tie.

  • There is not very much.

  • It's just 228 votes in Spokane County right now with 63% reporting.

  • So, yeah, a lot of people like you mentioned Mark filling out their ballot a little early and may be paying the price for their We mentioned this before, But if you're just joining us, it's not a winner.

  • Take all situation either, right?

  • No, it need a threshold.

  • And then you get a certain amount of delegates from state.

  • Yeah, it's proportional at the state level and not the congressional district level.

  • So at this point, though, right now, actually, take one more Look, if we can at the statewide results right now, I believe you were seeing number one and two there.

  • If we see the other ones.

  • I'm not sure of anybody else's meeting the threshold right now to even get any statewide delegates.

  • I believe I'm gonna take a look here at the secretary of State's results.

  • And, yeah, I'm not seeing anyone else reaching the 15% threshold.

  • Elizabeth Warren is the closest at just over 12%.

  • So she won't get any statewide delegates now if she has a particular stronghold of one of the congressional districts that maybe she could.

  • But right now it looks like from the Washington primary on Lee Biden and Bernie Sanders will be getting any delegates.

  • The results are remarkable.

  • When you consider about a month ago, Joe Biden came in fifth place in New Hampshire.

  • Yeah, just his campaign has kind of resurrected itself.

  • Obviously.

  • Exactly.

  • It shows how quickly these things change.

  • He won in South Carolina by a huge margin, and that complete, like you said, resurrected his campaign.

  • But all around the house, switching me, things can change also, even just one exactly.

  • I mean, within the span of a week we went from Bernie winning Nevada by a lot, and everyone's saying, Oh, wow.

  • Bernie's now the front runner and then Biden comes in and just dominates in South Carolina, the moderates of the party establishment start to coalesce around Joe Biden.

  • He gets all these endorsements, other candidates dropping out, people saying we want a back Biden because we don't want Bernie Sanders to be the nominee.

  • So he's got a lot of opposition from his own party there and then going into Super Tuesday, that ends up mattering quite a bit.

  • Biden wins Massachusetts in Minnesota All these states that Bernie Sanders was depending on.

  • And now Biden comes into tonight with a big lead, wins Michigan.

  • And now you know he's catching up with Bernie in Washington.

  • Yeah, here we can see the full numbers, but, like you were saying earlier, mark 12% for Warren, 11% for Bloomberg.

  • That's a lot of votes that right now are not going to be resulting in any delegates.

  • Assign people voting before those candidates ended up dropping.

  • Correct me if I'm wrong, Casey.

  • Elizabeth Warren has yet to endorse either buying or Sanders.

  • Yeah, that's been a very controversial, controversial move from her because she ran on a lot of the same policies as Bernie Sanders did, and now after dropping out.

  • She hasn't endorsed Bernie Sanders.

  • And so a lot of people are questioning how much did she really care about those policies?

  • How much of this is a political maneuver maneuver?

  • How much of this is any sort of personal animosity she might have had over the course of the campaign?

  • But that could have been a big decision for a lot of people who might have ended up switching to Bernie.

  • But because she didn't endorse, you know, they either stayed with Warner.

  • Might have gone with Joe Biden.

  • We mentioned voter turnout when it comes to primaries versus caucuses, voter turnout usually higher with a primary when people are mailing in their ballots in Spokane County.

  • I think at last check we roughly 40% voter turnout.

  • Artim families live in elections office right now with an update on that.

  • Hey, guys, we are behind the scenes here at the elections office.

  • It's in Spokane County.

  • I'm joined with Vicky Dalton.

  • This is, ah, kind of not.

  • It's like a organized chaos back here.

  • It was.

  • It seems like you guys do a really good job.

  • They move quick, You guys, I'm told you were gonna leave by 9 30 tonight.

  • We'll probably out of Vicky, walk us through the process.

  • What are we seeing over here?

  • So what we're seeing are the ballots coming in from the drop boxes.

  • So each one of the bags is full of ballots.

  • They're sorting amount Republican Democrat.

  • And let's just call it a booboo Ballots.

  • And once those air all sorted out from each one of the drop boxes, we take him, we weigh them to estimate the number, and then we're going to lock him away for the night.

  • And we will start working these first thing tomorrow morning.

  • So you guys were constantly getting more and more ballots in different bags.

  • These air coming again, you said from those different white containers and also the other drop off locations, right?

  • Yes.

  • So these are from our roughly 25 different drop boxes and then our votre service center out at centre place.

  • So I have two people that each one of the drop boxes and they lock the box.

  • Probably it ate.

  • And then they empty the drop box and bring them in, and our bags are sealed and tagged.

  • And then what about people who drop their ballot off in the mail.

  • When do those start rolling in?

  • So anything that was put into the mail today, we'll get to us either tomorrow or Thursday.

  • Okay?

  • And then these votes are sealed away.

  • And then when do you anticipate Thio get the next vote count?

  • I guess would be tomorrow morning or sometime this week.

  • We will do another vote count.

  • Release it between five.

  • And six.

  • Tomorrow.

  • Okay.

  • Great.

  • Vicki Dalton from the Spokane Elections office.

  • Thanks so much.

  • Thanks for your hard work.

  • And thanks for putting in the late hours anytime in great staff.

  • All right, guys will send it back to you.

  • All right, Tim.

  • Family.

  • The Spokane County elections office.

  • Thank you very much.

  • Obviously.

  • Vote still being tabulated.

  • We do, though, have a look at least initial return statewide.

  • And also county by county.

  • Yeah, let's take a look at the statewide numbers.

  • If we can pull those up for all of Washington right now again, you can see a very close race.

  • Still, Bernie Sanders and Joe Biden only separated by about 2000 votes, both technically with 33%.

  • And you can see Elizabeth Warren now, actually, with 126,000 votes, or 12% it is certainly a close one.

  • Let's go back now to our political porter.

  • Casey Decker is standing by in his election center, right behind me here with kind of a breakdown of Fillmore County by county results cases.

  • Yeah, one of the interesting things Mark is that across the state right now, there really isn't one candidate who's sweeping the county's even regionally.

  • It's not like the East Side is her abiding in the West side.

  • It's of Bernie.

  • Let's go and take a look.

  • County by County here on the East side right now, Spokane County, you can see in 2016 went for Bernie.

  • Right now, it is going for Biden now just by 228 votes, with 63% reporting but still going for Biden.

  • But what's interesting?

  • If we take a look around the east side of the state, we can go on down to Whitman County right now.

  • Whitman County also dominant performance for Bernie Sanders in 2016 and we'll just give it a second here to load the results for Whitman County.

  • And right now you can see Bernie Sanders still winning there.

  • So Spokane County for Biden, Whitman County for Bernie.

  • And you might also be interested to know that a lot of the Northeast counties, even in the Northeast, part of of the state of Washington right now not going to Sicily one way or the other, let's go and take a look at Pond Array County.

  • I'll pull Ponder a county up and like the rest of the state of Washington in 2016 it went for Bernie.

  • Go and take a look at how pondering County's looking.

  • With just about 50% of the vote in right now pondering County, going to Joe Biden like Spokane County is but one more look now at Stevens County will take a look at Stevens.

  • County went to Bernie like every other 1 80% actually in 2016 with 40% reporting in 2020 Bernie Sanders leading in Stevens County.

  • So we're really not seeing a lot of even localized trends right now.

  • We've got Spokane County going for Biden.

  • We got Ponder Ray County going for Biden.

  • We got Whitman County going for Bernie and we got Stevens County going for birdie same thing on the West Side was looking at this earlier.

  • Right now, King County is being won by Bernie Sanders, but its neighboring counties Pearson, Snohomish Those are both going to Joe Biden.

  • So really not a lot of trends as we go region by region, other than you'll see a lot of the times here, you know, these more rural counties, they have just less votes, so little things tend to sway them and also some different levels of reporting.

  • We have higher levels, maybe in Spokane kind, with 63% compared to the lower 24 30%.

  • Since we've been mentioning this throughout the night, it's not a winner take all situation, so you know it looks at least right now, if the trend continues statewide, Biden will take some of the delegates and burning sand.

  • It'll take some of the delegates, which overall is kind of a loss, it seems, for Senator Sanders at this point, that's exactly right, because if this had been at the very beginning of the race right, that would have been an interesting thing.

  • Where everyone All right, These are the two front runners, Biden and Sanders, both coming with delegates.

  • Either one of them has a path to the victory, right?

  • But right now, towards the end of the race, Bernie Sanders needed a huge win in Washington to really stay viable 89 delegates in play.

  • He basically needed to win.

  • Almost all of those really Thio make up for his losses in Michigan, Minnesota, Massachusetts T seven Report percent reporting statewide.

  • Senator Sanders up about by about 2000 votes at this point.

  • Yeah, and you know looks good for him.

  • He's winning just one in Washington, but it's really probably not by enough toe, really.

  • Give him much of a clear path to the nomination this point and again, you mentioned that tonight.

  • Earlier in the evening, his his campaign mentioned that he will not be speaking tonight.

  • Kind of another indication you think that he's recognizing that he has is losing his momentum.

  • Usually you don't cancel speeches for a good reason.

  • There's usually not.

  • You're not canceling a speech because you're super excited to announce a new policy, usually canceling speeches because something went wrong, something went unexpected and you have to reassess something.

  • Obviously that speculation, maybe he does come out tomorrow and say I'm announcing a vice presidential pick in the last ditch effort to try to win this thing.

  • But after all these, uh, you know, underperformance is that we've seen from his campaign.

  • It doesn't look good for them.

  • Okay, so that's the look at the Washington results so far.

  • We want to turn our attention now to the state of Idaho.

  • Are Taylor vital standing by alive.

  • And I think in court lane tonight with some of initial returns from Idaho.

  • We had guys actually don't have those numbers in front of me right now.

  • I think you guys might actually, uh, no more than I do in that regard, but I can't say we've been here outside the Kootenai County elections office for about the last hour or so.

  • And really, the earlier part of that we saw a lot of people start coming, and we saw the parking lot fill up.

  • And I've seen, you know, within the last half hour or so, So people bringing in water bottles, cases of water into the elections office there, So we can only imagine they're pretty busy counting ballots there.

  • Um, as you mentioned earlier, 20 delegates, 20 Democratic delegates up for grabs across Idaho.

  • All the work now really starting most of the results likely that we've been seeing at this point, though probably coming from southern Idaho since polls were closing at eight.

  • And they were an hour I had due to the time zone there, Um, that's Ah, forgive me as I look from my place here.

  • Voters here had three different ballots to choose from.

  • There was the Republican won, the Democratic one, and, of course, the Constitution Party.

  • It was 1/3 party with six candidates on their primary ballot.

  • Those candidates ranged from a family medicine doctor to a financial advisor.

  • A local leader with the Constitution Party of Idaho says that the party is interested in going back to focusing on the Constitution and moving away from political strife.

  • It's Logan is being part of integrity, liberty and prosperity again.

  • That's just another party that was presenting some candidates before voters today, as we've been mentioning all this evening, of course, President Donald Trump expected to not have any problems winning the Republican nomination or winning state come November.

  • In 2016 though, voters chose Bernie Sanders over Hillary Clinton of course, we will continue to stay posted tonight as we learn more for now reporting live outside the county elections office.

  • Taylor Vito Empty News It's impacting very much primary night in Washington and Idaho, as well as four other states.

  • So six states total tonight.

  • Kind of a mini super Tuesday, if you will.

  • And boy, it looks like Joe Biden continues his momentum tonight, technically a victory so far for Bernie Sanders in the State of Washington.

  • But as we said just a moment ago, the big takeaway here is not big enough of a victory, most likely for his campaign to remain viable.

  • You're seeing their 33% for Bernie Sanders, 33% for Joe Biden.

  • It's a very, very close race.

  • The state of Washington very split and also state of Washington again because of the mail in ballots voting for a lot of some candidates who dropped out of the race.

  • I am Elizabeth Warren with 12% Michael Bloomberg with 11% Pete Buddha judge with 6%.

  • He dropped down several weeks ago.

  • So lots of people going towards Canada, Let's take a look.

  • If we can guys pull up the results for Spokane County specifically right now.

  • If you could take a look at those, they're on their way.

  • I understand.

  • But I think if I'm not mistaken that Senator Biden is up right now or rather, former Vice president Biden is up right now.

  • Yeah, Biden's up in Spokane County again.

  • Just barely 228.

  • It's really interesting to see how statewide regionally, Countywide.

  • Locally, there doesn't really seem to be any sort of trend across these other than voters or split, right?

  • Right.

  • Okay, well, if you're just joining us, we are covering the initial returns from the state of Washington and Ida in the presidential primary.

  • We're talking mostly about the Democrats tonight because, really, there's no competition for President Donald trained in this race.

  • Yeah, he's the incumbent.

  • No Republicans air running a serious campaign against him.

  • So he's going to win the state of Washington.

  • He's gonna win the state of Idaho Right now.

  • Joe Biden is leading in the state of Idaho.

  • Bernie Sanders is leading the state of Washington, But will it be enough to keep his campaign alive?
