  • Hello and welcome to the Cheltenham Preview Morning with Colossus.

  • I'm joined here today with Tony Calvin, horse racing journalist and broadcaster, which Johnson and I don't need to give him an introduction.

  • Darryl Carter on also Dave Young on the panel with me today and my name is Elie Hudson.

  • Guys, I think we just got to start off really with the Supreme Novices Hurdle and Richard, You want this in 2010 on Missouri?

  • Can you explain to us what the Children war is?

  • Actually like it?

  • Sze is only one challenge, I think, and you've only one chapter festival.

  • Those four days are the biggest of all year.

  • Um, even when we get to start, you know everyone's excited.

  • Anything else then, Nikki, When you jump off, you can hear a CZ.

  • You're jumping off in the race a lot of noise, but amazing.

  • Once you turned off in any race, even at the festival, I think you're so consumed by what's going on, what's happening in front to you, your horse, everything else.

  • To be honest, it blows out to nothing, and it's only after the William Line suddenly hits you again.

  • It's amazing how you you seem to sort of drowning eight and then then all of a sudden victory.

  • Seriously, Pastor William Post.

  • Especially if you want.

  • You're excited as well, then that that noise.

  • Really?

  • Yeah, it does hit you.

  • And does anyone say there's only one job?

  • Tony, we do know this race being kind.

  • I was trainers in the previous years, and obviously we've heard Gordon Elliott, 2017 winner Let Bake.

  • And then we've also had William Mullins quadruple.

  • And this year, how do we kind of way up the novice form between UK on dhe and Irish?

  • That is very interesting from the supreme point of view, because obviously everyone expects envoy Alan maybe to go for the Ballymore between 25 But Cordelia has said Envoy Island.

  • If it's soft or heavy ground, he will consider the supreme.

  • Now she skins a current favorite for the supreme around about 321 mark.

  • But envoy Alan, if he goes to the supreme, will be the favorite because obviously he's a really big reputation and Carol before I mean island.

  • So it all depends on the ground on the opening day.

  • It's not about the realms of possibility.

  • You could have envoy and running over to two miles in the Supreme.

  • And if that's the case, he will be favorite.

  • But you know, the island aren't a really strong hand in the costume for long shoes.

  • Really good in episode three Weeks Eso ago.

  • But the main English challenge of shit skin.

  • There's a bit of a culture about sources in there because, you know, when he he's got a push button acceleration.

  • The Horseman.

  • Yes, and he hasn't won the grated races that some of the other horses in here as but the manner in which he's been winning.

  • And you didn't didn't have to be anything special to Huntington, but the way this horse just quickens up your pores way off the last is very impressive.

  • So I'll be in the shit skiing camp here over the island.

  • But like I said, it's it's fascinating what they do with them everywhere that if it ground comes up soft or heavy on the opening day.

  • Okay, that's interesting because classical Dream won this race last year.

  • Do we believe that chicken hasn't done that?

  • Are we concerned about that?

  • I don't think we should be concerned about it cause the manner of his victories have been quite impressive.

  • And as Tony's touched on there from the vibes from the yard are that this is an out your esque course, so it wouldn't necessarily worry me.

  • But, um, there is some good greater form on the table from other horses are steering four longe is the horse that I really like in the supreme.

  • I think he's got a massive chance in here.

  • If the ground does come up soft, heavy and Envoy land does divert to here.

  • Obviously, that will suit him because he stays.

  • But I think it would suit the likes of vast area for launch.

  • He'd looked a horse that could be an Albert Bartlett prospect at the start of the season.

  • Hey, is hopefully gonna come to the Supreme?

  • Shishkin wouldn't mind if it was slow ground, either.

  • He's got stabbed in abundance, So we're talking about a number of horses in here that are coming in with actual genuine chances.

  • Probably from a Paul's perspective.

  • They obviously can't finish in the 1st 3 so it might pay to look at something, maybe a bigger price, that I could sneak into a place and provide a few units coming out, the one that I do like.

  • And he does have graded winning former Soviet Pimpernel.

  • Now I'm not foolish enough to fit in.

  • He should be within the supreme, but he won a great free last time out.

  • He run, really when a four year old heard or at Cheltenham has recently been purchased by Rocker.

  • It was Kevin Sexton the road in that shelter on the last day, and he didn't I don't think he gave him the best of rise.

  • But maybe that's lack of experience around the course, so I don't know who's gonna ride in at Cheltenham.

  • Robbie Power will be on Fiddler on the Roof.

  • He rides for those connections.

  • Rachel Blackmore probably grown Captain Guinness, but I think so.

  • I think the price could be an interesting want to think about away from the head of the market.

  • Or it's moving on, then to the Arctic Challenge Trophy and Richard you rode the fourth favorite Captain Quest in 2011.

  • Since then, the last six of the last eight favorites have one.

  • Is notebook a worthy favor?

  • I think I think he's also a very good horse has improved dramatically since you jump fences any.

  • You know, he's fantastic, trader.

  • His office do seem to always take a step forward.

  • When your offenses jumped well again in an article, Jumping is so so.

  • He deserves a favor and what he thought he's done yourself.

  • So you sent in Ireland the last date you did well to win because he basically bolted on the way to start.

  • He went right there, went the wrong way when they should have annoyed you, went left, bolted and he still wants.

  • So it was a good performance.

  • But whether Shelton little, the atmosphere, nothing else, whether it be insurgency, where they do anything to try and keep him relaxed, because if he balls over, that would be a big issue.

  • I bring up a storm and look, I think he's He's ideal for the race.

  • You?

  • No way.

  • No, He stays two and 1/2 miles.

  • It won't matter if he's soft ground.

  • He's only other two runs because he's jumped very well.

  • He got better and better the 1st 8 color, which is a good performance, and then you sort of wonder they should have the next day it Thornton But, you know, for me, he's very good.

  • Heard I Yeah, I think he's one of my best Rises a z out of the issues that we had a small a small victory banged a joint just for Christmas, which meant he was He was, Yeah, he had a couple weeks off on Dhe again every year.

  • Listen to worry about Andi.

  • Didn't didn't want to rush him back to try and get him half contingent.

  • Really met work in the kingmaker.

  • But he said he was gonna be a rush to do that, and he'd rather come here, Just sit down.

  • And actually, I think on Sunday, too.

  • Give us our school before, before your company e He's He's in very good order.

  • Coming back toe, obviously note.

  • Because the favorite here, I think they're gonna put earplugs on that horse after what he did in Ireland last time.

  • He's obviously he's got the form.

  • In fact, do Dory's big cash back last time as well.

  • I wouldn't be surprised if that forms turned around, but I think it is pretty pretty difficult global citizens for being rude thief.

  • Last time has been frank kept the last time he is a bit.

  • He's a bit kind of like headstrong, and there's plenty of there'll be plenty of pace in this race.

  • But I was quite taken by how the way he pulled out when challenged by rooting for Kevin, they put first time tongue tied him in there.

  • So maybe that that made the difference as well.

  • So willing Willie Mullins, his one on for the last five years of this race in this race, as you mentioned, he's got cash back and melon.

  • What do we think?

  • Do we think they are strong enough to be able to give him and the winning streak carry on?

  • I probably know we'd be this simple answer to it did pitch Melon as a novel contender, even when he was second in the sea for him all the time back to jump in a second since then, so I think they may have missed the boat with him going up defenses.

  • It doesn't necessarily have to be too late.

  • We've seen that with 14 but he might end up going in the marsh chase now as well with melon cashback was close enough tonight, but you feed to think that maybe if he gets upset in the pre, Lindsay could maybe reverse the form like, say, Willie Money's does winning it.

  • But the other one on our pitch to the beginning, the season as anarcho contender is brewing up a storm, and I I really have been impressive this season.

  • Notebook for me.

  • I only had six home runs.

  • I think that the hurdle argument is nonsense, really.

  • Three days were over two and 1/2 miles.

  • Only, um, three were over two miles.

  • Every bomb had already admit that he was running them over the wrong trip over hurdles.

  • The form has worked out really well through low total runs.

  • It is a big horse.

  • He was always gonna improve for offensive jobs.

  • Impeccably.

  • Well, it's one of two strongest trials for the article in the last 10 years.

  • It'll be £7 better.

  • Awful factor Doubters.

  • If he turns up, it's gonna get earplugs on the day.

  • You just have to look out for how we handle Supremes, but I think he's a cracking, but it's moving on then to the champion Hurdle and Richard.

  • Your victory on Rooster booster in 2003 was the first race for yourself from Philip Pops.

  • Can you tell us what winning the champion hurdle means to win?

  • Um, it's just one of one of the biggest race of the year thing for her that cynical really?

  • Again, it was.

  • I don't I'm sure I shall never, ever write a winner in Cheltenham Festival.

  • Azizi.

  • Let's just, I think, was getting run away.

  • We're going down the hill.

  • He was always a horse that we sort of try to produce recently late, always very enthusiastic.

  • And I was.

  • My only panic was I was getting there too soon and he wouldn't get up the hill.

  • But on that day, he was Metreon.

  • Amazing for my jump, the last little the best he's ever jump Any hurdle?

  • One very, really?

  • Well, yeah, when the highlights of my career and then five of the last 10 favorites have won this race, including Booth and Powerful he Hurricane Fly and can ever taunt joined that band released names Ugo.

  • Absolutely, she can.

  • I think people are trying to take the wrong course on ahead of the market.

  • I don't think there's anything wrong with that.

  • I mean, you could pick holes in what she did in the mayor's novice hurdle last season.

  • But there's excuse the fair excuses I feel for that run.

  • The flu jabs have been given us an excuse, and the first time headgear.

  • Horses are not for 18 and Class one racist first time here.

  • So I think you could just write that off when the chance had gone.

  • Coming down the hill.

  • Barron wasn't too hard on the little didn't pick up the Spider once, I think the standout piece of forms that Christmas hurdle on the fact that she did it so readily was the impressive part.

  • Silver Streak obviously has not been out.

  • The finished third and last year's champion hurdles not been at the two over two miles.

  • His last night starts spans over two years.

  • I think he's a solid enough yardstick with all the others in here.

  • I think you're gonna have to try.

  • It's difficult to make cases for them on what they've done this season.

  • Raise ep it on.

  • I just think people are not happy with the price.

  • Wept on and on.

  • That's it, perhaps a Mr Bo, but I think they're trying to take on the wrong horse in this so I mean, it's iron six British for in the last 10 years of this race.

  • How do we think the Irish luck is gonna be this time around?

  • They don't look to have a strong and really today.

  • If honeysuckle did come it, then I think she would have a good shot degree of ritual.

  • I think you didn't.

  • She she would be favor, I think should be backed on especially the fact that if it was soft ground plays it strength again.

  • Stamler those sort of things.

  • But she hasn't been round shouting them, so we don't know how she's gonna be.

  • But, you know, I wouldn't worry about it so much with her.

  • Um, I just don't think they've really got strong hands.

  • Do you think Super Sunday with them?

  • Well, there's a few horses that get mentioned like Madonna Blue for a champion Heard imagine makes a little bit sad because I just think she's nowhere near a champion hurdle class horse with a fact.

  • The ground is soft.

  • She wouldn't have a chance charge wouldn't have a chance on the soft ground.

  • Eva, wait.

  • I I just I don't know.

  • It wasn't very good at Leopardstown.

  • is just one of those horses that again, I just I would be disappointed he was good enough to win a champion.

  • Odo, I think you are right.

  • Of course, my lord.

  • He does look the one that's probably the pick of the prices.

  • The ground we find on you did touch on the priest abuse the thing that he did it at sundown.

  • I think he wanted to for the day.

  • And then he struggled to win.

  • But you did win it.

  • Instructed in the way of having a any big John constable.

  • Yes, I think it just It just looks like one of those things that Tony mentioned Korma Lord, why do you think that's probably the one for wind purposes too?

  • Look, everyone we probably should mention you're looking for an Irish were Obviously we don't know where Benny does go you yet.

  • Well, but she quick enough for two most.

  • I was out with, uh, retreat.

  • She and some of his guys after on the Sunday after for him one ah, nde were warned him about putting his foot down Finally with I know that it's really you know, there's the decision making ladder.

  • It's really Mullins is begins and ends at with training.

  • Yes, maybe that's how it should be if you if you pay a trainer, consented a lot big price sources to make the decisions and maybe should leave into it.

  • But, yeah, it's a very, very murky picture that I just like to touch on the fact that we were saying about the fact that it is so open.

  • There's so many to look at him there.

  • This would be a a leg in the place pools, especially when we did the preview last year.

  • We've got apples, Jade Llerena, boomer.

  • We all sat there on the panel, said.

  • How come those three not be placed?

  • So we just said you'd come and get yourself some cover and put all three and obviously that's no, it worked out, so this would be a particular race again.

  • It's probably better this time around because there would be more split across the unit, but I would be very keen to be leaving effort on.

  • I think she'll for aware load of units.

  • You'll be right from Darryl simply because the lever in theory it's just it's just one of them is a fascinating race is one of them, even up to the the day.

  • Even when we see the father decorations, it would still be heart of a strong opinion of it.

  • I just hope that something wins it and it hacks up because you can't have about Champion had as far as I'm concerned, although it looks like it could be substandard.

  • I just hope something comes out on its own people.

  • We park it up, Tom, start me off.

  • That has got form.

  • Was Frank when you read in there further footwear in pretty desperate conditions.

  • Take it.

  • Thomas Darby's probably know what is going on, even faint you two and 1/2 earlier that that that that was even the plan.

  • After a schizo, I did wonder if they get tempted because it's the way the way the champion was cutting up.

  • I think he was an officer then.

  • I didn't plan on a gentleman to round up.

  • Obviously, it crosses captains and industry experts.

  • Can I have your picks for today?

  • Okay, so the supreme I know you don't like him but Stu for long, just waiting for me.

  • Who do you want?

  • I think not.

  • So we got the job done, John Donley.

  • Uncle.

  • You go over not going brewing up a storm winds.

  • So go Champion Hurdle, Super Sunday place.

  • He's got him Brilliant on distracts Best Supreme probably wouldn't vacuum at the current price, but if you have to let me down for the most likely winner, I'd say, And I think fit on the reef.

  • Stay all day.

  • Amazing article again.

  • Very, very tricky race heaven in a bet so far.

  • But the prices maybe cash back to reverse for with notebook from Leopardstown and bring up a stone for me.

  • Yeah, again, Champion Hurdle.

  • I like playing a bigger prices.

  • I mean, call me.

  • Lord will bounce back from that sand down defeat because form lighting, testing conditions better for the Frida.

  • One chance in a place called me Lord will do for me in a ridiculously open champion and I think honeysuckle if she turns up here, I think this is the right race for so that wraps up today's Chapman preview.
