  • No, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no!

  • Okay.

  • No, no, no, no, no, no!

  • In five minutes, the polls close across most of Texas, but voters are going to be casting ballots for a while longer.

  • Tonight there's a live look from HD Chopper is showing people still in line in the Collin County Courthouse in McKinney.

  • Good evening, and welcome to W F A special election night coverage of Super Tuesday.

  • We'll bring your results throughout the evening here on Facebook, our YouTube channel and a w FAA dot com.

  • And we want to hear from you tonight as well.

  • We have a team of people answering your questions or comments your concerns.

  • You are sharing with us to talk to us.

  • Comment inside this stream here.

  • Or you can tweet us using the hashtag vote Texas Tonight we have reporters all across the state on the big races, and periodically we're going to break away from this live stream to update our broadcast audiences.

  • So bear with us as we do that.

  • But first, let's get a lay of the land of what All we're doing tonight and already just a few minutes before polls close in Texas.

  • We're already seeing some results from the East Coast, where some of the other 14 states and Super Tuesday have already started calling.

  • The race is over there.

  • They have a big night for Joe Biden.

  • Early on, Yes, the night is under way.

  • Texas is gonna have its turn here in just a couple of minutes.

  • We'll be getting those early totals in Jason.

  • But as you see, we're already getting some coloring in on the map tonight.

  • Vermont has already been called.

  • This is no shocker at all for Senator Bernie Sanders.

  • That is, of course, his home state, Virginia, has been called for.

  • Vice President Joe Biden on ESO has North Carolina now this North Carolina Attn.

  • This point is just a projection.

  • I don't think they actually have any of the vote in there just yet, But what they're going on there is the exit polling coming out of that.

  • Actually, they do have some now being reported their 35% to 23% for Bernie Sanders.

  • Interesting thing is here as we look at the projections, when we scroll over these different states here, you're going to see numbers pop up that show Sanders 28 point margin we got under Virginia Joe Biden, 32 point margin, North Carolina and 11 point margin, at least in Virginia, anyway, uh, Joe Biden is way out performing what we have been seeing in the polling.

  • We've been seeing polls saying that he would do less than that in Virginia by 20 or by 15 points.

  • We're looking at a 30 point spread that they're projecting here early on.

  • So he's out warming that already.

  • Bernie Sanders, on the other hand, in Vermont, there in his home state, pulling less of the vote than they thought he was going to pull tonight in the most recent polling.

  • So kind of an interesting dynamic right out of the gates, as you know, Jason, because you were out there.

  • Joe Biden picking up a lot of momentum here in Dallas last night with these other candidates endorsing the past 24 hours have been huge for Biden arguably going into this.

  • Bernie Sanders is probably the front runner after tonight.

  • Who knows what's gonna happen with the race, but let's take a closer look here at Vermont.

  • Jason was talking about Bernie Sanders leading here 52% of the vote.

  • This is only with 9% reporting Joe Biden with 23%.

  • Again, that's not Yeah, And that's not a big hall.

  • Even if he does get that.

  • We're talking about 16 delegates there.

  • We have more than 1300 delegates up for grabs tonight.

  • So, Vermont, you know any of these candidates are gonna put anything in their pocket that they can tonight.

  • But we're talking about 13 delegates are 16 delegates.

  • There, there, there.

  • Virginia is a huge prize.

  • That's 99 delegates s O.

  • That is substantial.

  • If Joe Biden can actually pull that off tonight and again, it's projected that he will North Carolina 110 delegates.

  • So that's rich as well.

  • Eso This would be a big haul for Joe Biden and start the night.

  • Biden can start with those two.

  • Definitely.

  • Here.

  • This is the Virginia.

  • Virginia returns here.

  • This is 60% reporting.

  • Keep in mind the polls closed there an hour ago.

  • Joe Biden, 55% Bernie Sanders, 23%.

  • Those are huge numbers here.

  • As you said, if he can maintain that, he can sustain this.

  • You know in the States where he did well just know in South Carolina last weekend, then this could be a huge night and could change the whole makeup of the race.

  • We should also note here that Alabama is a little bit slow with us right now because their polls closed earlier tonight at the same time that some of these others did it six o'clock our time.

  • We still haven't seen anything pop up there in Alabama.

  • Don't know what's happening.

  • A SZ Far as that goes, that would be another 52 delegates.

  • Joe Biden in the polling has shown ah lot of strength there in the recent day.

  • So we're going to see this sort of march across again.

  • We're gonna begin in these numbers the early vote here in Texas in the next couple of minutes, that should start to populate.

  • And we will be pulling that up through here on taking you County by county will also be comparing how the numbers compared to years past, because we've had quite a turnout, especially in some of these large metro area.

  • And you talked about how the map was gonna march across and I keep in mind, too.

  • You know, Bite is doing well in the East Coast.

  • A lot of people thought he might.

  • He was pulling well there.

  • Bernie Sanders is projected to probably win care of California, Even though we're a little ways from that, the question is how wise.

  • How spread?

  • How wide is that spread going to be?

  • You actually sent this over to me earlier today, and this is really interesting.

  • Look at this California Democratic primary right now.

  • Real clear politics.

  • It puts together all of these different polls.

  • They're favoring Sanders by about seven points.

  • Let's just go back to yesterday.

  • Here.

  • Sanders was favored in California by 19 points, a 12 point difference just in one day.

  • And what happened 24 hours ago?

  • Right here in Dallas, lot Democrats consolidate around Joe Biden.

  • Let's go over here to the other part of our studio.

  • We have experts from across North Texas here with us to help us digest and get some context and perspective on this right here.

  • Burning Steptoe, the political producer, W F a A.

  • Bud Kennedy from the Fort Worth Star Telegram.

  • Alana Rocha is from the Texas Tribune, or partners down in Austin and Kimmy.

  • Linking is from you and t helping this kind of make sense of this.

  • It's 701 right now.

  • Some results should be coming in.

  • But let's talk about we're seeing on the East Coast and Kimmel Kimmel in.

  • We'll start with you.

  • You surprised it into this.

  • Actually, I think that one of the things the highlight is the fact that Biden is doing much better than most had anticipated, given the fact that he had not been traveling in Super Tuesday states until this last weekend.

  • And so it's pretty clear that South Carolina seems to have given him a little bit of a bump.

  • How much of last night really played into this defect?

  • Alana with the with Chlo Bashar and with footage coming out saying, We're going to support Joe Biden, I think you have that coalition getting behind him.

  • You had a lot of people.

  • We've reported at the Texas Tribune that we're waiting to see how South Carolina played out.

  • Thio, wait, you know, seeing how fluid this field is to wait to cast their ballots to today.

  • So I'm really interested to see what the voting totals look like.

  • for turning out on this election day.

  • And but can it be pointed out something before we got going here?

  • Don't let the early reserve early results fool you.

  • Why not?

  • But Jason, the earlier first of all people voting for two weeks before you had this Democratic coalition, you had you had the and then you have this ballot that has all the people who've dropped out.

  • People are voting for Castro when you have this long ballad of names so well, we won't be watching.

  • Early voting will be watching Election Day on how that turns whether Joe Biden picks that up and in the time we're talking to.

  • But they're Bernadine The Associated Press called Alabama for Joe Biden as well.

  • Is this the restored of his campaign?

  • With the changing of the race tonight?

  • I think it's the continuation of his campaign.

  • But remember, he's He always said that he would do well in the South, and he is.

  • So his projections are coming true, and I I somewhat agree with, but when he talks about early voting, But keep in mind that these people were voting long before everything happened in South Carolina and happened last night.

  • So this could be even better news for by because he's winning the early voting in these states and he didn't even have all of this boost last.

  • Wouldn't they start voting?

  • That's a good point.

  • Let's talk about that, too.

  • Alone and Camila because you know, voters could see Amy Klobuchar could see Pete Buddha Judge could see these other candidates who are not, you know, in the race anymore.

  • But they were on the ballot.

  • I think it's all come down to electability, right?

  • We saw Mike Rawlings out here endorsed Biden when the two Texans were still in the race being, ah, work and Castro.

  • So I think that they see Biden is the your best bet.

  • Thio.

  • You know, a never trump or to out Trump from office Kimmel.

  • And if you're on the Bernie Sanders campaign tonight just saying, Hey, just wait to California.

  • What are you saying?

  • You're saying keep an eye on things As we move across the country, we move away from some of those deep Southern states.

  • Don't forget that Sanders has played well to a certain east Coast kind of liberal.

  • So you're gonna watch as we move across that tell you, Texas is really the state to watch tonight here, in many ways, because Sanders was up by such a large percentage that no one would have ever anticipated in 2016.

  • Some of that's been cut into by Biden, even Justus recently within the last 23 days.

  • We're gonna spend a lot of time on this side of the studio tonight.

  • Want to go to Jason Winner, though with some of the early vote totals here.

  • Four Texas.

  • Yeah.

  • And, you know, while we get into those early vote totals Jason, can you tap the brain trust over there?

  • I don't know the answer to this.

  • If we still have people who are standing in line in line at these polling centers, which we do, especially in Collin County, will the state release those early voting totals and show which candidates are getting that early vote, or will they wait until everybody is in?

  • They usually do.

  • I believe it.

  • Is that the case way?

  • Get all the results?

  • Yeah, they usually do.

  • At the top of the hour released.

  • The early vote results are taking so long because we're a couple of minutes in here.

  • We're ready to get this figured out as to who those votes have been going to.

  • Let's get to the early vote numbers.

  • We do know that right now we don't know who's gotten all of these votes, but we know how many of them have been cast.

  • You can see it broken down here on your screen, right in front of me.

  • We've got Republicans there.

  • We've got Democrats, they're on and you can see neck and neck.

  • We've had more than two million votes cast 2,086,780 votes.

  • That is just during early voting.

  • That has nothing to do with the turn out that we have had here in Texas today.

  • A lot of ballots have been counted.

  • Question is, who got him?

  • We should be finding that out here in the next couple of minutes.

  • Let's go over here for a little bit of perspective, though.

  • While we're waiting still for that map to start populating to figure out where this is all going.

  • This is just looking at the top 15 most populous counties in the state because that's how the state breaks these things down and it gives us a good comparison.

  • I'm gonna tell you right off the bat, ignore what you see over here on the very right.

  • This is 2008.

  • That was a crazy year.

  • You'll remember we had Hillary Clinton taking on Barack Obama in the primary.

  • There we saw numbers like we just haven't seen here in Texas.

  • So even if we get rid of that outlier right there, look at 2012.

  • You see, here we have a trend.

  • Republicans far out voting Democrats by more than 100,000, 200,000 or so 2016.

  • That Titan just a little bit.

  • Look at what we're seeing here in 2020.

  • Now, though, if we look at just these top 15 counties, which account for a huge part of the vote in Texas, Democrats just surging well past what we've seen with the Republican turnout today.

  • This is something that Democrats have been looking for, especially in certain areas.

  • The firewall.

  • We always talk about it.

  • Tarrant, Collin and Denton counties.

  • Those have traditionally been ruby red, very Republican.

  • You can see here if we look back to 2012 there was a big disparity 2016 Big Disparity.

  • 2020.

  • Look at this almost on par.

  • The number of votes being cast between Democrats and Republicans.

  • Denton's still has a little way to go to make that up.

  • Gonna check this now to see if we can refresh and get into those counties, Jason, and toss it back over to you while we're looking at that.

  • All right, Jason, we do have some vote totals in right now.

  • The early vote totals.

  • Let's go ahead and take a look at some of these numbers.

  • This is the Dallas County Early vote for US president here.

  • Joe Biden and Bernie Sanders.

  • Kim Kimmy, Look at this.

  • 27%.

  • 25% of course.

  • Dallas County.

  • What is the last big blue county before?

  • Kansas City?

  • Is that right?

  • But the only blue county in Austin in Kansas?

  • Three.

  • Only one here, doesn't it?

  • Does that indicate how close this night might be?

  • Yeah, it is certainly an indication.

  • And remember, everybody's staked a lot on what those suburban voters are going to be doing.

  • And it may be an indication that there's a little bit more of a fight over the soul, especially for the female white suburban voters that may be going a burning route.

  • We'll see the soul of the party.

  • Bernadine, you surprise of those numbers for Dallas County.

  • No, I'm not.

  • Because keep in mind, uh, Sanders put in a lot of resource is here, and I didn't so, uh, sandwiches paying off.

  • But I think it's too early to start talking about Dallas County.

  • Yeah, here's didn't counting the early vote there.

  • Bernie Sanders Way had 32% of the vote over Vice President Biden, their body winning with the younger voters in Denton County.

  • Dallas County numbers almost mirror Houston.

  • And really, we're talking about dividing up delegates.

  • Really?

  • Sanders and Biden, if they keep this rate, will get close to the same number of delegates on, but it's neck and neck fighting just barely leads.

  • And Harris is well, any of these numbers to pressure?

  • No, I mean, you know, again, I don't think that tells the whole story.

  • Given what?

  • We've eight hours.

  • So I'm really gonna be interested to see when the today's results start coming in now.

  • Um, Nicole, if if we can get the third or fourth name on there, I'm curious what Michael Bloomberg is doing to.

  • He spent tens of millions of dollars in the state advertising.

  • He was kind of pulling a what, 10%?

  • And that's kind of what we already saw him place in in Virginia.

  • Uh, no, he's not percent.

  • Yeah, yeah.

  • Typical.

  • He's in a solid range, doing 8 15% 15 If he's lucky, if he's lucky thing, this is Dallas County, and the early vote shows that, you know some of that paid off 20% of the vote there.

  • But look at this.

  • You know that showing good numbers, all that investment in television advertising, spending money on TV pays off.

  • And he's, you know, he's showing that he'll get he needs to get some delegates.

  • That's what he needs to do is he needs to come in under the Big two and pick up some delegates.

  • So does little war.

  • Does Bloomberg do that?

  • Tonight in Texas?

  • I don't pick up some delegates at a couple of Senate district.

  • You know, this early vote is very interesting because bonus have been boating primarily since January because you could do the Malian boating, so this early voting is very, very interesting in as, UH, they said, today's voters to date is the boat to watch.

  • You explain that to get in a lot of people who aren't sure about that.

  • Why today matters Probably a little more than the early vote over the last two or three weeks.

  • Well, what we saw happen in South Carolina on Saturday that Joe Biden said he would win big there, anyone big and that showed some of his opponents that maybe they didn't have a path for that being Amy Klobuchar arm and people to judge.

  • And they all coalesced here in ah, Dallas last night and show of force, the so called establishment rallying behind him.

  • And it seemed to make a difference.

  • As faras um, you know what we've seen happen on the East Coast already?

  • If tonight is indeed a close night for Bernie and for Biden, that just sets up a pretty big showdown.

  • I'm thinking, and next Tuesday, when the next round of states is, is what Michigan and Florida of the two big gets then.

  • So this this this could be a knife fight between a mom, but well, what really has to happen is that Biden has to have enough success to raise money.

  • Barney outraised Biden 3 to 1 in the month of February, 45 million to 15 million.

  • Biden has to have enough success to get back in the fundraising.

  • Let's go to Harris County now.

  • Lana talked about it a moment ago.

  • Just showed me the Twitter feed.

  • This is Houston, Harris County.

  • The early vote down there and look at that.

  • It's tied 26 26%.

  • And again Blanca blurred.

  • Not far, bind.

  • Bloomberg's close.

  • It looks like that financial investment paid off.

  • Yeah, and if I can also put a plug in here that especially with early taking more of a moderate stance.

  • What you may be seeing here is a some sort of combination of the fact that Biden can't necessarily win it outright, but that the two together Bloom dork inviting stand for the moderate middle of the Democratic Party.

  • And so they may actually be dividing the early vote in some ways, which is once again in case we haven't said it enough tonight matters.

  • Yeah, it's a question I ask the vice president last night.

  • Is Mike Bloomberg spoiling Biden's candidacy in Texas?

  • Well, if you look at the early voting booth actually is.

  • But we also have to remember you have to count it in terms of per dollar and that you're picking up your votes.

  • And there's no doubt per dollar spent her dollar?

  • Yes, and so it's clearly been good for Biden in that this has been very cost effective.

  • Bloomberg has had to pay for that quite a bit.

  • You know who we're not talking about?

  • Here is a little Elizabeth Warren who knocked out.

  • She's running third in her home state.

  • She's not obviously on the chart in these urban counties in Texas.

  • She'll do better in Terre in Travis County, But I think it's gonna be a bad night for Elizabeth Warren.

  • A lot of support in Travis County.

  • I see it falling on my friends and Twitter, and they all are talking about how they voted for her today.

  • E.

  • I think it's telling.

  • Also, a lot of the Elizabeth Warren is not in a Super Tuesday state tonight.

  • Having a party having no any type of.

  • She's in Detroit, Michigan, Michigan votes next week, right next week.

  • That's suggestive of kind of what she thinks absolutely she sees a path forward and she's not gonna be held down by tonight's finishings.

  • And and she said she's going to stay in until the convention.

  • I get it.

  • They all say that.

  • But what's realistic?

  • Does she have if she doesn't perform well tonight?

  • Does Elizabeth Warren have another couple of weeks?

  • And this is worse than expected?

  • I mean, if she had hoped to be the one who was there when Bernie faltered, Birdy doesn't appear to be faltering.

  • And so you she The question is whether she goes on, and obviously she doesn't think that she's going to do well in Super Tuesday.

  • And that's very telling.

  • She's out of the States so, but she does have a lot of money now.

  • She has money, so that could carry her on a lot longer.

  • But I do not see going to the convention.

  • Just don't see or or a path forward.

  • I mean, Kimmy, is there a path forward, really, for her, as long as Bernie is a strong as a progressive, which she is as well, so one of the things that you do is it depends on what happens on Super Tuesday because the fact of the matter is going back in time.

  • You can look back at Gore and Kerry when they ran for Democratic nomination, and they did so well on Super Tuesday that all the rest of the candidates just pulled out.

  • So it will depend.

  • She may be jockeying for position on the VP a part of it that, but that we will have to see how that plays itself out.

  • Ah, lot of you mentioned Travis County.

  • If Elizabeth Warren is she doing, does she do well or pull well, anywhere else in this state?

  • You guys have done a lot of poles of the Texas Tribune?

  • Yeah.

  • I mean, I just know.

  • I mean, that was kind of anecdotal.

  • I'd have to look back at our polling, but yeah, I mean, she she just resonates.

  • She's held several events there, and she seems seems to resonate with the people in Austin and Greater Travis County.

  • And I think Warren was the first Democratic presidential candidate besides Castro in a work, of course, tohave an office and set up shop in the state.

  • Several staff, several staff.

  • She got here early, and she was hoping to do something but but his, but points out, she's not actually on the on the result finals.

  • Here we have Collin County as well, which is just north of Dallas, of course.

  • Plano, Frisco McKinney.

  • This is, uh, the presidential race there.

  • Bernie Sanders.

  • Look at this.

  • Bernie Sanders.

  • I would have thought that Joe Biden would do well among moderates up there.

  • But what do you make of this?

  • Bernie Sanders with 30% of the early vote?

  • Collin County.

  • We're looking at a younger population area.

  • You that the Republican voters are 2/3 senior citizens.

  • Democrats are half senior citizen, but you're looking a younger voter base there.

  • That's more of a burning voter.

  • All the younger people.

  • The under 30 voter is strongly for Sanders.

  • Keep in mind that that County has just really organized among Democrats.

  • The Democrats.

  • Was Ramos invisible unless election.

  • So that could that it?

  • I'm like, but says that's a younger voter again.

  • We see another county with with Mike Bloomberg 18%.

  • Yeah, that's what I was looking at.

  • So I mean, I think he's over performing here compared to polls.

  • What do you think about it?

  • Like I do several morning lives on Thursdays, and I listen to the programming in between and I hear his commercials running right.

  • But I mean, obviously, because his campaign's running them, they're all, you know, Rose colored ads.

  • And he was only challenge twice on the debate stage.

  • And so a lot of people voted before they actually heard from him directly.

  • I thought he would get one delegate somewhere in the state.

  • It looks like he may get one delegate in every district and pick up maybe $20.

  • So while Biden is doing well in Virginia, he's doing well in North Carolina.

  • He probably doesn't want to see Bloomberg doing too well.

  • Alana, I would presume he and his campaign now, especially in Texas, right?

  • Well, I mean, you know where the more moderate measure I think this tonight, especially versus a California.

  • So no, I mean, he's definitely cutting in.

  • And if he walks away with a chunk of delegates, he might feel emboldened.

  • Thio stay in.

  • We know he has the money.

  • Yeah, he has the money.

  • Stay as long as he wants.

  • He's even said that what he's going to keep his staff on even if he's not the nominee to support them to support the nominee.

  • And he has quite a network built here.

  • Yeah, he does.

  • Indeed.

  • Here's the Dallas County votes from US President.

  • This is the early vote.

  • Again.

  • These are some updated numbers.

  • I believe Joe Biden at 27% Bernie Sanders A 25%.

  • But I would think that the younger voters would be here with in Dallas County among Dallas County Democrats.

  • But Biden is leading in this early food.

  • Well, what we're watching, of course, one of things were watching tonight is how we know Biden has a strong vote among the African American base vote of the party received.

  • Who picks up the Latino vote?

  • This maybe Biden beating Sanders or the two splitting the Latino vote we're looking at.

  • Who's you?

  • Who's strongest in court?

  • Dallas County.

  • You've got an urban Democrats vote.

  • As we continue this conversation, you want to remind you guys about our social media listening team.

  • We have ah group of folks over here.

  • Listen to your comments about us opining.

  • I'm sure you have plenty to say about that.

  • So occasion they're sending us messages and and sharing what you guys were saying So keep that coming in the Facebook comments on Facebook streams.

  • Hey, Eric, let me check in with you.

  • You talk to us a moment ago.

  • What you hearing right now?

  • Yes.

  • So we're monitoring a text line.

  • We want to remind all of our viewers that you can text us a 2149776028 We're gonna be monitoring those live and get to the answers as soon as we can.

  • But there's one thing that we're seeing over and over again from all over the Metroplex.

  • And that is why are there Maur voting machines set aside for Republican voters than for Democrats?

  • The situation is some voters were surprised when they arrive.

  • That they're split up into separate lines on that, of course, is because they're separate ballots for, you know, separate parties.

  • Then they're surprised again when they learned that their arm or machines satisfied for the Republican voters than for the Democratic voters.

  • And hopefully some of our experts here can shed some light on that.

  • Yeah, explain that, but because we talked about it a moment ago, you may not realize that the party's physically run the primaries the party's run election day in the primaries.

  • I think everybody had one line, same ballot for early voting.

  • You just clicked on which party boat.

  • But then you actually have to sort yourselves out for Election Day.

  • The party's control it, the parties make decisions.

  • I can't speak for all the counties.

  • I know that in Tarrant County, they a lot of machines.

  • Based on past vote, Tarrant County's been a very regular red county.

  • And so, going into today, there were 1800 Republican machines and 1000 Democrat machines, almost 2 to 1 Republican machines.

  • For Democrats, some polling places.

  • There were 20 Republican machines and only two Democratic machines.

  • You have a Democratic presidential primary drawing a heavy Democratic turnout.

  • You had early voting in there in Tarrant County, where the Democrats led early voting.

  • And yet they're all these Republican machines.

  • So Democrats are frustrated because of the lack of machines and decisions that were made based on past primary perform and the decisions were made by the parties themselves.

  • Decisions are made by the well.

  • The decision for how many machines to a lot was made by tearing county because they only have so many machine based on that it was approved by the two parties.

  • The two parties say Okay, we'll agree on this will agree on.

  • I just apologize for second Nicole, if you can bring up If you guys can control room, we won't update folks on District 12.

  • The statewide numbers for Congressional District 12 which is Kay Granger and Chris Putnam with him.

  • And also, if you could give us some numbers for 32 as well.

  • The Republican race for Congressional District 32 Bernadine I interrupted your moment ago.

  • No, no, I'm more interested in, uh, District 12 but I didn't want to just add that this is the first election where were using those voters said it centers for voters.

  • Convey boat anywhere, and that's in terror.

  • County is well, you don't have to go to a specific precinct.

  • You can go to any any area, regardless of what your driver's license says.

  • You're right.

  • That's part of the problem.

  • It's a box that's historically Republican now.

  • Democrats voted because that's where they work.

  • They're gonna stand in line.

  • That's throwing everything.

  • You and Nicole.

  • One more race, I meant to mention I talked a lot about now, which is, of course, the biggest statewide race that you guys have covered the heck out of it.

  • The Texas Tribune on That's the Democratic race for U.

  • S Senate.

  • M.

  • J.

  • Hager was going in the front runner.

  • Yes, you're parsing through some results.

  • Have you?

  • Have you seen houses before?

  • I haven't seen the numbers yet.

  • I'm trying to keep tabs on Twitter because I'm not saying as she is looking at this just to remind our viewers 12 candidates running for this and the Democrats looked at what happened with Beto O'Rourke two years ago.

  • And what would happen with Ted Cruz and thought, Wow, we have a shot at John Corner.

  • Everyone gets in the race.

  • And so that's what's being parsed out tonight with 12 people in no doubt, there's going to be to be a runoff.

  • Question is which to make the runoff.

  • Yeah, we are expecting M.

  • J.

  • Hey, guard, she went into This is a front runner.

  • She's out fundraised her opponents.

  • She has somewhat of name I d.

  • They all are struggling on that front.

  • Yeah, really?

  • The question is, if the projections ring true, that should go on the run off.

  • And then who's the number?

  • Two?

  • Could be Senator Royce West from your area appear or Christina, Since when?

  • Ramirez, who's garnered some big name endorsements?

  • And this this is a word, is this state?

  • Would that be?

  • This is statewide Dallas for statewide because he's No, no, yeah, yeah, Wolf.

  • We'll fix that.

  • Says, Yeah, we have Amanda as your own, but also to.

  • So we'll get that one fixed.

  • But that kind of threw us off.

  • Here you are.

  • People hold with us on that, Roy.

  • Folks, folks talking about who's going to be in the runoff for this one.

  • As we mentioned, the very top of this dream about 25 or 30 minutes ago, we're going on to Paul is every so often so we can update our broadcast audience.

  • We're going to do that right now, but the cameras aren't turning off.

  • The microphones are turning off, so you can still watch kind of behind the scenes what happens here.

  • So stick with us, Chris, and is you're going to update the channel a viewing audience in just a moment.

  • Just remind her, too.

  • They had Amanda.

  • I was here Yeah, there was no reference aware.

  • Jason.

  • Yeah, that's Dallas, guys.

  • Dallas.

  • It's still crushing, Mike because it's gonna change.

  • We go statewide way.

  • All knew he'd win.

  • Dallas County.

  • Thank you for joining W F A.

  • A special coverage of Super Tuesday.

  • It is a big night for the state of Texas.

  • Yeah, here's a live look and calling county.

  • Now, where people have been standing in line waiting to vote, they have finally gotten inside that building.

  • Remember calling County one of the fastest growing counties in the country, and it was felt in this primary.

  • We're hearing reports at some locations where people had to wait in line for more than two hours earlier today.

  • Good evening.

  • I'm Cynthia gave it, and I'm Chris Lawrence.

  • Look, it is two very early in the night, but we are starting to get some initial results from the Democratic presidential race right here in Texas.

  • Yeah, let's take a look.

  • Turnout was a huge factor here.

  • 228 delegates up for grabs, and the courts were the second most of all Super Tuesday states behind California.

  • And here you see Bernie Sanders leading the pack right now on top with 27% of the vote.

  • He was the favorite headed into this Super Tuesday, he was hoping for a big turnout among young and Latino voters.

  • It was a core part of his coalition here, and we'll see what continues to happen.

  • These are early numbers, Chris, very early.

  • But let's get to Jason Wheeler.

  • He's got a dive into some of these numbers a little bit and try to make sense of them for us.

  • Yeah, we could break it down right now.

  • The most populous county of all their Harris County pulling for Joe Biden at this point.

  • Now he has just edging out Bernie Sanders there.

  • But all of this is with very little of the vote counted so far statewide.

  • You see Bernie Sanders here leading everyone Elizabeth Warren, Senator Elizabeth Warren in second place, Joe Biden popping in at third place there.

  • The curiosity that we have tonight is how much of this will change once we start counting that vote.

  • That happened today on Election Day.

  • Because, of course, that early vote has a lot of candidates in there who are not even in the running anymore.

  • And you can see that they are racking up votes here.

  • Pete Buddha, Judge.

  • 29,000 votes.

  • His campaign has been sustained.

  • Suspended Amy Klobuchar.

  • 15,000 votes.

  • Hers has been suspended as well.

  • A sw far as the big population centers go.

  • We're seeing in Collin County and Denton County that Bernie Sanders is leading in both of those places right now, The only one where Elizabeth Warren is in the lead is in Travis County there, in the capital with Austin.

  • Uh, that is it from the big map over here, Chris.

  • And is he all right, Jason?

  • And in the Democratic primary for U.

  • S Senate, this race could be headed to a runoff.

  • Yeah, The only question is which two candidates will compete Right now, Royce West is in the lead in Dallas County.

  • Let's check in with them on Fernandez.

  • Chris, I'm standing by for Voice West's watch night party, and I saw him a few moments ago.

  • He told me that he is feeling very good and very optimistic about his chances in this Democratic primary.

  • You know, he spent the day traveling across North Texas hitting polling sites, especially across Dallas and Fort Worth.

  • He told me that he is feeling victorious tonight, especially about his chances at making a run off.

  • You know, there's a very crowded election, but again, he and his supporters say, Don't sleep on them tonight.

  • They feel very optimistic, and we'll be waiting and watching to see exactly what happens tonight.

  • He's in a room not too far from where I'm standing there, getting ready to watch those election night results come in.

  • He says that they may make a statement, especially after those El Paso polls close.

  • All right, Demon Fernandes live in Dallas, where there is a long list of Democrats vying to unseat Republican incumbent John Cornyn.

  • Let's head down to Austin now.

  • Theresa Woodard is standing by with the M.

  • J.

  • Hagar Camp Theresa Cynthia.

  • You heard what demand was saying about Royce West Spending the day out at polling places in J.

  • Hagar had a very different day.

  • She actually spend it with her family, spent most of her day with her two young boys.

  • She did make a couple of calls, I'm told, but she's really been spending the day gearing up for tonight.

  • Based on recent polls, she is far ahead in this race.

  • But of course, the question will be.

  • Who will she face in a runoff?

  • That seems to be the likely scenario.

  • Hagar has not made it to the to the watch party here yet.

  • But we're expecting to see her in the next few hours as results start to come in back to you, Theresa, That is the latest from R W F A studio.

  • We will continue our special coverage of Super Tuesday online on our W f A a Facebook page.

  • And for those of you watching on television, of course, we're going to send it back to ABC News.

  • Special coverage.

  • We'll see you back here in half an hour.

  • No.

  • All right, so we have done some musical chairs here in that brief broadcast break we have now on on the left.

  • Here, my left.

  • Jason Viagra, Former state rep.

  • Aah!

  • Lana Rocha is still with us.

  • Kimmy King from U.

  • N.

  • T has moved over here to this side of the table.

  • And, of course, Domingo Garcia, the national president of LULAC, is with us too.

  • So let's start with the Senate race and some numbers that we have just gotten updated there from the last few minutes.

  • This is gonna change a lot.

  • This is Dallas County.

  • From what we understand Royce West, of course, he's been representing, you know, Dallas and state Legislature for years.

  • No surprise.

  • He's ahead.

  • You know what surprises me, Domingo.

  • We'll start with you.

  • Is that he hasn't been on TV.

  • M.

  • J.

  • Hagar has been on TV.

  • I figured she would do a little better here, but I understand there's a field of 12 that are on the ballot.

  • Well, this is, uh, this is Voices.

  • State District, State Represented District.

  • He's well known.

  • He's basically the key maker of Democratic politics in North Texas, and the street fairs showing shows he has a strong ground game, even though he wasn't on the airwaves.

  • Kimmy there 12 people in here.

  • Amanda Edwards, the former Council one from Houston, The at large councilman down there.

  • She's at 9%.

  • Chris Bell hasn't really shown up on this.

  • Hey, hasn't spent a lot of time up here.

  • And who else?

  • There was another one.

  • Christine, It's insane.

  • Ramirez.

  • Alana and I have talked about a 1,000,000 times, and Christine has been up here a handful of times, but hasn't spent a lot of time up here.

  • Do those numbers surprise you?

  • Perhaps.

  • But you also have to remember that things were really volatile, especially because you're in an urban area that is dominated by someone who is considered to be a king maker.

  • That always makes a huge difference.

  • But I think one of the things that's striking and that you're seeing here is that it's not necessarily money buys the votes.

  • It really can depend on what kind of name recognition people have.

  • So we'll see.

  • And M.

  • J.

  • Hagar was endorsed by the feds, the feds.

  • But what do you think of the season?

  • Yeah, yeah, endorsed early on in the primary, which is kind of unprecedented in race like this right now, she says.

  • It's the only endorsement, you know, measured by viability around viability.

  • But I don't know how much that resonates with voters, you know?

  • I mean, looking at that, that's another endorsement from, you know, a big organization establishment, right?

  • Right.

  • It is that indeed, but we've talked about to Alana in in the past couple of days how it doesn't seem like any of these candidates have really broken out of their metro areas.

  • Royce is popular in Dallas.

  • Kristina's popular down in Austin.

  • Houston has Chris Bell in Amanda Edwards.

  • M.

  • J.

  • Hagerty, J.

  • Hagar.

  • Yeah, as well.

  • No one's really kind of caught fire anywhere else in the state.

  • I think that's what this primary process is about.

  • You know, the top two who catch fire, somebody emerge, and then they duke it out for May 26.

  • That run off, and that's what we're waiting for.

  • Jason, I wanna talk to you about the next results popping up here.

  • This is District 24.

  • The results.

  • I believe this is a Republican results, indeed.

  • So Beth men dying, the former mayor of Irving, she worked for the Trump administration.

  • A cz well, Wow, 74% overwhelming support.

  • Beth Van Dine is well known commodity all over Dallas.

  • She was the mayor of Irving, was considered very well regarded among the people of Irving.

  • She was endorsed by Trump in the final quarter of the race, and so it was clear that she had the support of the conservatives in that race where watching it and seeing what she's be able to do so far, and it's pretty impressive that number.

  • And of course, she was kind of the favorite in the race.

  • But they were still five or six people.

  • And, you know, a lot of folks didn't know if that was going to go into a runoff.

  • Well, again, I think her name recognition helped her.

  • In the beginning, she also was fully funded in a race like that, where you're splitting all those different votes, having resource is really does make a difference.

  • I know her cards were out.

  • She had a TV commercial.

  • Her media social media presence was very strong.

  • And I think because of those elements combined with her past history and Irving, she just showed up really strongly today and there will not be a runoff in there.

  • We already have.

  • Ah, Mike Bloomberg speaking.

  • He's in West Palm Beach, I believe, is going to end up to the night in California to be a tight night.

  • But let's listen in here for a moment together and together we're going to get it done way All know, Trump strategy attacked.

  • Democrats make their plans look unrealistic, unaffordable and undoable.

  • That won't work against us.

  • Our plans are sensible, workable and achievable and we have the record on the resource is to defeat Trump and swing states.

  • The Democrats lost in 2016.

  • Like Florida, I waken do it and you know who else knows it?

  • Donald Trump on.

  • That's why he keeps attacking us on Twitter today.

  • He's sent a tweet out, urging people not So there you have it.

  • An upbeat Michael Bloomberg, speaking in West Palm Beach to see a Vega, is there with them, saying he is a beat, right, NASA, citizenship, citizenship and finally, fixing our broken immigration system on getting it.

  • Dunn's means protecting a woman's right to choose our campaign is a fight for America's ideals and values.

  • It's a fight to build a better future for everyone not to bring back a pass that left so many out.

  • It's a fight we cannot afford to lose.

  • So I need your help and I need your vote.

  • And when you talk to your friends and families, thank you.

  • Just tell him if you want quality health insurance for everyone, not just empty promises.

  • If you want a combat inequality with Sarah, taxes and better jobs.

  • If you support my commitment to public education, no matter what zip code you live in.

  • If you Sam, I believe for opportunity for all and not just for a few.

  • If you are ready to protect and defend the Constitution of the United States of America on if you are ready to clean out the Oval Office and get things done wth unwelcome toe Bloomberg 2020.

  • Thank you, Dominga.

  • Let's start with you on this way.

  • Saw the results nationally and we saw here in the state.

  • And Mike Bloomberg is, what, 18 2022% he's over performing.

  • If you consider the polls, what do you think?

  • Well, when you spend half a $1,000,000,000 you know, and you saturate point taking four, take it.

  • It's hard, you know it you're gonna get your message across.

  • But the fact that even have a stronger ground game on that he's behind candidates spent significantly less in terms of metal.

  • Before I bury Bernie Sanders and biting what they've only spent like 1,000,000 bucks here a TTE The end shows that money cannot always buy you the election and it came by your love either Kimmy, though I've got to think that the Bloomberg campaigns feeling pretty good just based on what we heard there in West Palm.

  • I can't imagine he's going anywhere anytime soon.

  • And certainly one of the concerns is that how much it actually cost him to get there.

  • If you sort of look back at what President Trump spent on Super Tuesday, for example, was 76 cents a vote.

  • Where is Bernie and Hillary was spending somewhere north of $2 a vote.

  • Once this breakdown is gonna be done on what he spent in Texas, it's gonna be a pretty pricey race.

  • It'll be a huge number, right?

  • A lot of yeah, absolutely.

  • I mean, but looking at this I mean, I was just surprised.

  • I kept comparing Biden and Sanders, not realizing that Bloomberg was second, 36%.

  • Well, 37% for Biden, according to secretary of state's office, to about 22% for Bloomberg.

  • And then Sanders is down around 18%.

  • So I mean, it just has a lot of just how much he blanketed the airwaves and our mailboxes with several mailers.

  • Several.

  • I got quite a few.

  • Jason, we're talking outside.

  • You're laying here, though.

  • This is a racer watching.

  • I'm watching.

  • I'm watching it.

  • And I think this might be an indicator for what it might see later on in California, right?

  • If if Texas had a significant Latino population and if Texas has shown the ability to go towards somebody other than Sanders, who has historically done very well with Latinos in Texas, does that mean that around the rest of the country, particularly the West in Nevada, where you have

No, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no!
