  • - What's going on, everybody?

  • Trevor Noah here, officially social distancing.

  • The President just held a press conference saying that

  • the White House has changed its recommendation that we limit

  • our exposure to no more than 10 people at a time.

  • It looked to me like Trump is taking this

  • more seriously than he ever has.

  • If Trump is worried,

  • then we should be taking this seriously.

  • The good news is we can do something about it.

  • We can minimize the spread of coronavirus.

  • Cities like New York have begun to shut everything down.

  • Restaurants are closed, you can order food,

  • and you can pick up food in New York,

  • but you can't go to the restaurant.

  • Remember to order, it supports

  • people who work at the restaurants.

  • It supports the people who deliver the food.

  • Tip them well, please, they're bringing you your food.

  • They're basically the lifeblood of a city.

  • And yeah, everything else in New York

  • is basically gonna be shut down.

  • Everything, cinemas, comedy clubs, Broadway.

  • I was thinking, it would be cool if Broadway

  • could also do delivery, that would be nice.

  • Like if Lin Manuel could send someone to your house

  • to perform, like just a little bit of Hamilton, you know,

  • you just order it on the app and they come.

  • It's like, hi, you ordered "The Room Where It Happens"?

  • Oh yes, thank you.

  • The room where it happens

  • Room where it happens

  • Thank you very much.

  • But yeah, everything's shut down, and I know some people

  • are saying this is extreme, we shouldn't be doing this,

  • why are we shutting everything down?

  • Yep, because we're trying to make sure that the coronavirus

  • does not completely debilitate our healthcare systems.

  • It seems extreme because coronavirus is extreme,

  • and if we don't take it seriously, we can pay the price.

  • It might not be you, it might not be somebody

  • directly linked to you, but it could be.

  • Could be a family member, it could be somebody

  • with a weak immune system, it could be your grandmother,

  • your grandfather, your uncle, your aunt.

  • It doesn't matter, it's still human beings,

  • and we could be doing our part to try and minimize

  • their chances of getting coronavirus.

  • 'Cause anyone could get it.

  • Idris Elba.

  • Idris Elba has coronavirus,

  • and luckily he's not showing symptoms, he's still healthy.

  • He's still one of the best looking men on the planet,

  • so luckily coronavirus didn't take that away from him.

  • But it shows that it can affect anybody,

  • so let's play our part.

  • All you gotta do is stay home.

  • Stay home as much as you can.

  • If you can't because of work, or you have to,

  • I can't force you, and I won't force you,

  • but for those of us who can, and for those of us

  • who are in a position of power like a boss

  • or somebody like that, if you can,

  • let your employees work from home, you know, because I think

  • us surviving is more important than us meeting deadlines.

  • So, let's stay home.

  • And for those people who are like, oh, I can't stay home,

  • I'm going crazy and I need human contact.

  • Yeah, we spend most of our time on our phones anyway,

  • so let's just do more of that.

  • Spend more time looking at your phone,

  • being on social media, and watching TV.

  • There's no other time in history

  • when anyone will give you that advice, so.

  • So yeah, now's the time to do that.

  • And maybe it's time to connect, you know?

  • Connect with yourself.

  • Connect with people you live around.

  • You can still be neighborly, if there are old people

  • in your building who need help,

  • reach out to them, help them.

  • If you live in a neighborhood where there's old people

  • who can't get somebody, or can't get somewhere,

  • help them to get what they need

  • so they don't need to put themselves at risk.

  • Italy's a great example.

  • I mean, you've seen the videos.

  • People are, they're singing from the balconies.

  • You see the images of people playing music together,

  • like an impromptu band.

  • I saw two guys playing tennis, that was pretty dope.

  • So, yeah, try and do that.

  • Try and remember that you're a human being,

  • existing with other human beings,

  • and we're all fighting against

  • something together for a change.

  • And scientists are saying it, health experts are saying it,

  • even the White House has now said it,

  • 15 days can make a huge difference.

  • This could determine the trajectory

  • of the rest of the journey that we are taking,

  • known as coronavirus.

  • So, just try for 15 days to stay inside as much as you can.

  • You could be saving somebody's life.

  • So, yeah.

  • We'll all go a little bit crazy together,

  • and then we'll come out on the other side.

  • I'll catch up with you guys later.

  • ("The Daily Show" theme music)
