Subtitles section Play video Print subtitles okay hi guys welcome back to my channel today I'm doing a real exciting collaboration with this lady I can't Mimi icon I've actually discovered Mimi I think like two years ago yeah what 2017 when 2019 yeah about two years ago and she's been inspiring me with her wisdom and honesty and just like the the way you look at life so I'm super excited and I feel like I've recognized a lot of myself and you if it's just say today we posted on stories just like questions and things you wanted to hear from us and I have a bunch of it so we going to go through these questions but we're also gonna do our kind of signature everyday makeup look there's a basic mom makeup yeah like a quick yeah don't have high expectations here this is something that just helps us to get through the day let's get started and let's get started a little background about you you are actually you were born and sponsored by John and I moved to Canada when I was 16 I just turned 16 and then I lived there for 11 years and then Alex and I Alex my husband moved to London here about six years ago which I can't believe it feels like I was yesterday and was like whoa six years just flew by what made you move to London so I would say it's mostly for the lifestyle because although we love living in Canada in Toronto you'll always want it to experience living in Europe I find it so weird for me to like talk it's a new experience from you guys it was multicast it's like multitasking at its best I'm like what am I doing here more you stayed yeah I was like what is going on so bear with me it's my first experience I haven't done a makeup tutorial since I started YouTube by saying that one Tosh in 2010 and you did one yeah well they don't want because there's so many great makeup tutorials its chair that I always feel like I'm not really qualified but obviously it's not bad you know people just yeah I see your approach to it anyway so I just Anna mentioned this is not specific brand I would imagine yes a particular brand but I we start with the SPF before I apply anything else yeah this is something I wasn't doing before I'll be quite frank oh really yeah I love the Sun and I a lot of sense also keep on this beer but now I'm getting used to the routine of always applying my SPF regardless of whether it's sunny or not oh I'm a biggest yeah and I can't leave the house especially because your skin is more fair but yeah it's regardless of the skin type and you gotta protect people don't understand you still get ten if you have this bs on like it doesn't completely block yeah I am struggling a little bit but I'll just tell you guys I've applied my BB cream testing this product that's a new one that I'm trying wouldn't you apply well I don't think that I'm gonna know so I have this trick where I use a little bit of like a pigment and a pinkish tone on my eyes when I have like dark circles and over this I'll put my concealer so it helps to kind of neutralize and mutually yeah neutralize the area so that's what I'm doing because I yep I can understand that okay so tell me how you started on YouTube so we started I started on YouTube when I say we I mean my sister and I because my first channel was luxy hair channel here on YouTube we had an idea to create this brand for hair extensions because I was getting there it's like a long story but I'll try to no not it telly I was getting married I was looking for hair extensions and I bought something that was like super crappy I didn't know obviously I wouldn't have to spend the money oh yeah got home and when I put in my hair I realized it was just like didn't look good didn't look natural and my sister's ended up being in the room as well and Alex was in the room just like browsing on the internet I just started complaining to her because I put in these extensions in my hair and I'm like oh my god I can't wear this to the wedding and once you take them out of the package you cannot return because hair extensions are hiding product yeah at the time world already has this idea that we wanted to have our own business we just didn't know what it would be I started complaining to all this and it's like yes like we gotta do something together because he was also doing something at the time by himself which was working about well either and then this comes out you know like this idea comes out and we just went for it you know we had no clue with what the industry would be like I had no idea how to do hair I just had passion for learning and I love teaching I can simplify things ideas like big ideas simplify and make it my just exactly did I just the average for the general public so the YouTube started with deluxe see here yes channel the Wuxi her channel so my sister and I would do the videos cuz she was part of the business for the first two years and then we bought her out yeah we just did hair tutorials so we started the channel before we even had the products amazing yeah and then I grew like crazy it was like really such a beautiful journey did you know that YouTube is such a like monster at the time Alex was already because I had like a fashion blog before that and I was telling me to get get on YouTube and I didn't feel comfortable enough I was looking for excuses yeah I could come up with ideas I never have problems ideas but it was mostly like just exposing yourself on this whole different level a blog is more secure and safe and you're so fast she's a pro you can see when somebody's a pro life I mean mascara time that by the way this is my holy grail it's not the Harper Oh a nice woman lip and cheek tint it's amazing and dark I cannot believe it yeah and it's very buildable so I'll tell ya I can't I take it from night to day you know it's funny I bought tonight I bought something it was a different color but the same yeah different color yeah and my daughter's friend was a 2 year old like school I think that's kind of my secret but why everything is fast cuz I have a lot of miyamura yeah also this RMS concealer is like yeah so I'm gonna keep talking yeah this is very serious but I'm doing my oh yeah did you start Instagram at the same time no I feel like that was very late on Instagram because Alex told me for like months to get on Instagram I just kept saying I don't like the look of Italy I didn't like the filters that everybody was using eventually he's like well you don't have to use a filter and I was like yeah I guess you're right so I eventually got on this together but I don't remember the year exactly but yes at least a year and a half after they launched so I wasn't one of the early birds you know notify you when did you get on it I mean I started I posted one photo when the app I think was about one year old mm-hmm and then I didn't use it yes consuming or do yeah well not even use at all I think that I really started posting I would say 2014 but again person who you really yeah yeah it's like of my believes on the street and stuff yeah exactly I started YouTube in 2016 and I have no idea what YouTube is like I I only consume music through you knew so it was such a surprise for me that once I did start doing some research because I wanted to get into it I discovered this world of you know of creators all the makeup artists and all these things it was just I was mine to me to sit for hours and watch something on like YouTube it didn't make sense yeah go watch a movie yeah but then once I discovered it I'm just like oh my god and that's how I learned everything I remember I was like okay I'm gonna create my first video okay YouTube how to edit what class but you really had no clue I had like 101 so if I thought look I wasn't very good not tonight yeah I don't want people to think that you become a wonder candid no it's definitely still not my strength but I'm really happy that you know I push myself to to learn these basics cuz you feel like when you do it really helps a lot to understand even not with people that you know work with Emma that's awesome yeah so then you can emphasize with her she's struggling exactly someone asked how you both made it into a career but I guess for you it was I I was never meant to be like a social media person yeah creator yes because I was creating for the brand yeah but I never cared to like put myself personally out there but once you're in YouTube and you creating videos especially like we were doing it for Lexie here I felt like people wanted to know everything what are you wearing how did you do your makeup what are you eating I want your workout routine it's funny since we'd be like doing brave videos and be like your arms are so toned it seems like I feel always want to know more yeah and that's when I realized if I were to do my own channel that would probably do well but I didn't do that until like much much later so when did you launch Mimi icon channel I launched it like a year before move here so about seven years ago but it was always not my priority and give to it and that's the problem like if you really want to grow in YouTube you have to fully focus and prioritize yeah so I had a videographer like full-time and like you really need that I feel if you're gonna do like something consistently like we doing right now yeah if you have other things in your way exactly yeah yeah that's so anyways I just want to mention one thing a lot of times I just use my bronzer and my eyeshadow so I love that it's like very easy yeah it's funny that you mentioned you know I get sometimes questions being like why do you need all these people to help you look at this like 15 year-olds they're doing it all by themselves they don't have a team of just like well yeah well you know what why don't you come to my house for one day like a day in the life and just be done if you have I I haven't done a real day in the life like a real day in the life and you wanna see people will follow me they would I sometimes we have some videos that we post when there's you know a lot of real moments with the kids and people are like oh my god I'm so it's so chaotic like I can't be almost welcome to my life yeah this is it and this is where you need help because otherwise you'll just go insane yeah exactly what advice would you give to a young woman who's trying to start their own business oh my goodness I say before you start your own business if you haven't had the experience of being in business at all and you're young go and work for somebody or just like volunteer your time doing an internship whatever or maybe get a paid position if you can offer your work for free just to go and learn and also to figure out if it's even for you because so many people will jump into things or like will maybe spend the money to like do something and then realize later on and they don't want to do it yeah so before wasting your time and money go and experience that industry even see if it is a fashion or beauty or any other industry that you may be into food industry go actually experience it firsthand by working for somebody else yeah if you want to open a restaurant why don't you go work in the restaurants exactly like that that whole experience of being in one because it's also very intense and hectic then decide if that's what you want to pursue but you'll also learn a lot of things along the way whether some mistakes that that person is making running the business they don't want to make when you start your own and obviously will get inspired some things that they do you might even discover that you don't want to be a business owner because I think that I know that it's very like a hot war now yeah but it's a whole other lifestyle like to have your own thing and to constantly like you worry 24/7 it's a different type of life it's a different kind of rhythm yeah I always say like I haven't had a holiday in like almost nine years exactly even when we go on vacation like it's never a vacation it was the case even before I was like interested in social media because I had an entrepreneur husband self literally on our honeymoon it was just like him constantly on the phone there's always issue so yeah you really need to think about it and I agree I'm just going out there exposing yourself to you know the actual world in real life because what you guys see online and all this like end product or like the pretty photo of like being a successful person that's not the reality there's so much more yeah and you know what I think that I don't know the exact statistics but like I think one out of ten like entrepreneurs actually succeed ya know I think it's like 90% of businesses fail within three years exactly so it may think that there's a lot of much more thought that needs to go into it because sometimes like even if you have the right attitude and the work ethic for your personality and the lifestyle you want maybe for you it's better to work for a company absolutely so I think that's something that everyone definitely needs to think about how are you doing very good I've tried to catch up like don't be aware but I'm currently my life curly lashes I don't know because yours Emily no you can see like it's this mascara have you heard of Illya I have but I've never tried it yeah there there look I love the way I can see the brush is actually really yeah and it's like this is more of a bullet missing and this one is lengthy did you face any bumps in the road when you were pursuing or forming your career and how did you get over any bumps so many that I feel like that is a great next question with that yeah which one shall I really talk about so many I feel like from the first day when you start the business and you don't even know where to start that is a response it's like so where do I start but like you said when you started your channel we have incredible tools like Google where you can just see or YouTube where you can just search for information on how to do something when you have a roadblock and I feel like for us it was the product that something we found right away but it's like when you have a business your team is the most important thing yeah as good as is as good as your team so I feel like that's something that has been challenging even to this days like finding people who are passionate driven and culture fits because I think if you want to build a strong brand new people or align with you yeah so that's an ongoing ones that I can I can think of right now but gosh I feel like every day you wake up and with every like problem you just think okay this is the end this is the end like everything feels like this is the end so I think that there's constant battles I mean for us especially being in the industry with influencing and social media it's constantly changing every single day there's something new and you just constantly oh nothing over you exactly so you can never really feel comfortable and I think that's the biggest challenge that we've always been favoring so Alexis - yeah a little over turnout she's a few years by month it was in a shocker for you to become a mother well not a shock because I planned her from Yummie that's like I think it was a rice pregnancy like so yeah have a new toe came into that position internet rule we're like oh I think so yeah I believe in a way I'm still adjusting to the fact that gosh I'm responsible for this human being it's a massive massive responsibility and you life changes so much so like before kids you're the center of your world and after kids like they become your center and of course you do have to find time to still make yourself a priority something I'm still learning two and a half years after but I think it's a process yeah if you had to choose top three products that you absolutely love and will never let go of either the baby definitely an SPF cream having a really good SPF and I want to find like a tinted SPF but at least 30 plus because anything below 30 is really so like SPF would be one because it's like such a basic thing and then again a BB cream or something like that because again it's like creates that flawless foundation but without being cakey yes again I wouldn't say like I can recommend any brand that I'm crazy about like I'm trying this one by they'll up here that I got a whole food I'm not like blown away by it yeah but I'm also very picky so there's one that I absolutely adore but it's not like natural brand or anything which one was by bare minerals but their Minos is more like this is bear Minos I'm applying the lipstick yeah I mean it's cleaner than later than that yeah it's still honestly the best BB cream which I'm really oh great I'm gonna try that I'm gonna I'm gonna find it I'm gonna link it in the day I ordered eyes so you guys are looking for how to do figure it out okay well I do pick up a lot of lower nobody I'm like let me see the mirror is we have like it's higher medical and I'm sharing good I'm very proud of us anyways talked about everything yeah yay this is it for our makeup tutorial Thank You Mimi so so much for joining me today you for having me I'm so decided to share it with everybody thank you guys bye
