We spent the night at Furuiwayaso Youkan
A traditional Japanese hotel
Which is very close to Iwayaji Temple
One of the eighty eight temples of the Shikoku pilgrimage
So most guests at the hotel are there for that reason
Check it out guys, this is what we are going to wear today guys
Thats really nice, I feel like we gonna feel a lot cooler
With this white jacket on
Sharla and I got long sleeves
So it looks like this inside
Sharla which one you want?
Purple~!
Purple? Okay, Alright.
We're ready~
You read it from right to left: Kai-Gan-Zan
Which means: Kaigan is the coast
And Zan is mountain
And you kinda wonder, its like; wait there's no coast or ocean around here
And our guide just explained to us. Its because in the morning
The fog comes up high into the mountains
and creates a blanket of fog and it looks like the mountains are floating in the ocean.
So that's where it got the name from, pretty epic, I wish we could have come here
super early so we could have seen that.
So if you have something you wanna wish for you come here
and you circle around these stairs here one hundred times
and once you pass around once you can slide over one of these counters
so you know how far you've gone.
and you do it again and agian
ninety nine more times
round one
We're gonna do this one hundred times, right?
alright, I got my wish
It's so beautiful here. This is the Japan I want you guys to experience~!
A lot more than Tokyo
I make lots of videos in the Tokyo area because I live there for several years but,
I highly recommend that you go out to the inaka as far inaka as possible
countryside
So you can experience stuff like this when you come to Japan
because this is just so much cooler in my opinion
It gets you thinking more than you think because
because the stairs are really narrow and covered in moss, so its kinda slippery
so you gotta take care in each step, you cant just walk the stairs like normal stairs
So it becomes a mediative moment as you're focusing on each step, this narrow little stairway
and just after doing one, you're kinda like "Okay, I understand why you do this one hundred times"
Okay, I'll just remember that I went by once, yeah we dont need those counters
What??
We dont need those counters
So here's a newer version of the statues that we saw on the way up here
They were just saying that a family could purchase one and I believe that they write the names
of their family members who have passed away on them and they place it here
So that they dont need to visit their grave every year
say they get old or injured and it's hard for them to make it to the grave every year
to pray for them. They can put a statue with their family members names on it instead
instead of them praying the priest will do it for them.
So that's what these are if you see them around at Temples in Japan
and here are some even newer versions
as you go higher up the mountain you can see more recent statues
This is officially the biggest earth worm in the world
I thought that it was a snake and I was all excited but, its an earth worm
Let's compare it to the size of my foot here. That insane!
What?!
I had no idea that earth worms could get so big!
Taking down the garbage on a rope way, that so cool!
So we're almost up to the very top
I can see more stairs over there, we've been climbing for quite a long time. This is quite the hike!
Im wearing these sandals they are pretty comfy and are okay, i would recommend not wearing heels!
That would really suck
It's really hot today so its more comforable to wear open toed shoes
You come in cooler weather, wearing runners (tennis shoes) would be the best choice
There are vending machines up here if you get thirsty, which you will cause I have been sweating like crazy!
Im so happy I brought this!
Oh look at this! I've never seen omikuji (fortunes) tied to a live tree! Its usually to a little fence thing.
Three incense sticks, you light them on your own candle.
Really hot up here, but it's really beautiful. It's just stunning!
Sharla is down here, doing as Sharla does. It's cool actually working with Sharla because,
she actually asks a lot of questions. So you get to learn a lot of stuff as you are going along!
I tend to not ask the questions anymore, it's really neat! Are you ready? Alright
Im done stealing your vlog now
I''m hijacking your vlog, Im stealing it. It's my vlog now. Wow it is really bright out there!
It's like something out of a movie up here
Like, Totoro or something~
It's one of those kinds of forrests
These beautiful rock walls going up here. Its just so nice! I was just taking a moment to complement the fact
you still ask questions! I don't do that anymore, so I stopped learning stuff after ten years of being in Japan
I was kind of the opposite, when first came, I didnt ask questions, cause I was so excited about just seeing it
I felt like that was enough! But now that I've seen all this kind of stuff so many times, I wanna learn more about it
So now it's more interesting for me!
(off camera): I guess you know how to question now right?
Thats true! Before I couldnt really, ask any in depth questions
(Off camera): You didnt know anything, you dont know what to ask
There's some insight right there from Sherry Berry in Ehime!
Which is where we are, Ehime afterall
I was just telling them earlier, that you should really come to some place like this and not Tokyo
If you only get one chance to come to Japan, say you were planning just one big trip
to Japan in your life, make sure you include something like this. It would be such a shame if you only went to Tokyo
Not that there is anything wrong with Tokyo, it is a totally different experience, but it would just be so sad
if you didnt get to see this part of Japan.
It is like the difference between city travel and beach travel. Both are good but they are very very different.
Tokyo is a beautiful place, but it doesn't look like this. The camera doesn't capture it. It shows you how
beautiful it is, because if you look at this screen it actually looks quite nice.
Its nothing like how it actually is. This is amazing, I wish we had a 360 camera
Sharla: Should we ring it together?
Sure!
