  • Hey guys good morning! I'm on a rode trip with Greg and Nicole and today is bunkasai day.

  • cultural festival day

  • Umm, at lots of the universities, it's actually like a national holiday in Japan. I think this coming up Monday is like "culture day".

  • It was Friday. Oh, it's Friday. Okay, so yesterday. So today

  • They're having all the festivals at the universities which are really fun so we decided to take a trip to our old University

  • For old times sake and we're gonna go visit the festival there

  • But first we got to stop at the grocery store and get some like treats

  • because its kind of like a tradition for the older students to bring like a

  • Little present for the students that are working at the bunkasai now

  • We're gonna get some cookies or something like that. Alright, let's find the snacks

  • We could get them drinks, too.

  • Yeah, but enough for everybody?

  • Yeah, that would be hard to carry.

  • There's some salty snacks.

  • Yeah, I think like the bag of cookies or something was a good idea

  • I remember one year, somebody brought like a box of donuts for my group, and everyone was so happy.

  • Maple cookies

  • M&m's

  • Where are those bags of like... yeah this kind of stuff

  • Like these ones or something?

  • We could get them some Oreos like one of each flavor

  • Look they have these as much of Kit Kats right and they're like 278 yeah, then they have these ones over here that are

  • 368 so maybe there are different ones. You were saying you thought it was just a different package but..

  • what is Manu? Oh if they have like tea leaves in them?

  • Oh, I think this one is new. But this must be stronger. Yeah, thats new.

  • We could get them like take a bunch of different KitKat's

  • What do you think?

  • Let's do that, I guess, they can argue over which one they want. lol

  • All right, snack done

  • So they have these pins every year there's some for boys here and some for girls here. And you have to find your matching your pair

  • Lucky number 217

  • I got 237

  • All right, lets go find our boyfriends. Are you going to get one, Greg?

  • Find 217 (lol)

  • 197 all right, let's go. Let's see who can find their match first

  • So the basic idea of the cultural festival

  • It's basically just like, there's lots of food, the students form little groups, and they have tables where they sell things, mostly food

  • Some people do performances like the clubs will do performances. Lots of dance performances and stuff like that. Those would be happening probably later on today

  • So I'll try and catch some of those. Our university is actually an international university, so there's lots of students from all over Europe.

  • There's probably some American students here at the moment at least some North American students, but mostly Europeans, Hungarians

  • Norwegians

  • This was my semi, Ichiyama Semi. They're always really hardcore. They do a great job at the bunksai

  • Our teacher is Brazilian, so they often have Brazilian themed food here

  • So here's the main area with all the booths, it's already like 2:00 p.m.

  • So lots of the popular booths have already sold out of all their food

  • the festival goes on for two days though, so

  • If they have leftover ingredients they''ll be selling stuff again tomorrow

  • We're just going to find my homeroom teacher now to say hi. It's been a while since I've seen her

  • Wanna be in my video. Hi!

  • So every year we would get a room we wouldn't know which room we were gonna get it's kind of like a draw.

  • And then we'd have to decorate it like the theme.

  • for the year

  • I'm pretty sure I made that, they're reusing it. That's cheating!

  • So each homeroom will research a topic and then they'll present about it in the display here

  • It looks like their theme was coffee this year

  • So my teachers was just telling me that they'd like to mash this up and spread it on a banana and eat it that way

  • That sounds good. Sharl: yeah that sounded good

  • That's what the adults like to do, and the children just eats it, like this, like a snack

  • Ah, that smells like peanut butter

  • Oh my god, that smells so good!

  • It's taste just like

  • Reese's peanut butter cup without the chocolates

  • They had a Canadian booth, they had poutine. What? There were never enough Canadian students when I was here, so we didn't get our own booth

  • I was always with the Americans. I'm jealous. So each booth will post their

  • Posters on the walls and stuff to advertise what they're selling. It's always like a big competition, you try to be the most popular booth

  • every year

  • Alright the festival is closing up now. Didn't find my boyfriend. Did you find your boyfriend, Nicole?

  • No, I didn't. I still have mine.

  • Greg, did you find your girlfriend?

  • No? We're all going home single

  • We're gonna go say bye to our teachers now. And then Greg wants to get some sushi before we go home.

  • Look at the lights, it's almost Christmas

  • Halloween's over it's Christmas now

  • So it's a typhoon now

  • Not actually it might as well be one

  • We went to leave the festival and we go outside and it's crazy windy and rainy like all of a sudden

  • So we borrowed some umbrellas from my teacher

  • She's never going to get back.

  • And we're going to sushi now.

  • A bowl

  • So we're at sushi now. So at this place

  • They give you a little notepad and

  • you write down your order on here. You can actually call them over and order that way, but I like writing it down

  • It's easier. And I feel like they don't forget things. If you do it this way. Greg. What are you doing?

  • What is that, Greg?

  • Sriracha

  • Where did that some from?!

  • Greg sneaks in his own sriracha 'cause he like mixing it with the soy sauce

  • Nice work

  • Every time Greg comes to sushi he gets french fries.

  • I need it

  • Is it good?

  • Is it good as you expected?

  • Alight guys we're gonna enjoy our sushi, so I'm gonna say bye here. Hope you enjoy coming to the festival with us

  • And I'll see you again soon

  • Bye guys!

Hey guys good morning! I'm on a rode trip with Greg and Nicole and today is bunkasai day.
