  • Sharla: Morning guys. I'm here with Taylor,

  • she's over there somewhere, and we're inside Donkihote because we're looking for a yukata for Taylor.

  • I have my own. We're going to be going to a festival today, my first festival of the year, which I'm super excited about.

  • Um, they're having a summer festival in Ueno. And we've gotta wear yukata, cause everyone wears yukata.

  • It's like your only chance to wear one, so I really hope we can find a cute one for her.

  • It's going to be her first time wearing one.

  • If you're looking for a cheap yukata like this is the place to come; You can also buy them at department stores

  • But Donkis sells the cheapest ones, and they're decent you only wear them like once or twice here anyways so...

  • Taylor: hehehe

  • Sharla: Okay, Japan is the best hand soap. Every time I come to Donkihote,

  • I want to buy new hand soap, look at it! Is it pudding scented? Oh, it smells like bananas!

  • Oh, and these are Shinkansen.

  • Sharla: I'm coming!

  • Sharla: I gotta get one of these.

  • Hmm!

  • Taylor: Oh it was.. I thought that was meat!

  • Sharla: Eww!

  • Big bowl of meat, hah ha! Ice shaver, oh that looks soo good.

  • Hmm, so cute...

  • Sharla: Ohh, I wonder if these help. I've always wanted like a posture corrector

  • Taylor:What does this do?

  • Sharla: Where is that from...?

  • Taylor: It's electric thing that, like, builds your abs

  • Sharla: What one is that?

  • Taylor: Oh, its on.

  • Sharla: Is it that one?

  • Abs..

  • I'm scared to touch it! It's gonna, like, shock me hehehe!

  • These are so cute!

  • We found the yukataaaa~

  • Oh, I was just thinking I want like a black and red one.

  • That's nice.

  • Taylor: Black and red?

  • Sharla: Yeah...

  • Taylor: That'd be hot.

  • Sharla: That's pretty, yeah..

  • Oh! Looks like mine! It's the same flowers...

  • Taylor: Oh, yeah..

  • Sharla: So these ones have pre-made Obi bows,

  • so you don't need to knot a tie or anything.

  • Taylor: Is that better?

  • Sharla: Yeah, for us haha. It's easier.

  • Takes way less time to put them on.

  • Taylor: Are they all the same size?

  • Sharla: Yup.

  • They are just one-size. So you just wrap it around

  • Taylor: So I just choose any color?

  • Sharla: Yeah..

  • Ohh, stripes!

  • These are the men's yukata

  • They're always like dark colors and just, pretty.. pretty plain patterns.

  • Taylor: Part of me just wants to get this one and go as Tyler.

  • My male alter-ego..

  • Sharla: Only if you wear the wig, hahah!

  • Oh hey, these ones come with shoes, but these are usually pretty painful if they don't fit your feet, properly..

  • Taylor: I don't think I could walk in those

  • Sharla: Oh these will come with shoes.

  • Taylor: So I think I like...

  • Sharla: Oh! That one's cute!

  • Taylor: Red and pink.

  • Sharla: Oh, I like that.

  • Blue and pink.

  • Taylor: Do I need to buy other stuff?

  • Sharla: Ahhm, no this comes with ties and everything.

  • Umm, this one.. This one it doesn't look like it has the ties.

  • See, this one has the little ties.

  • No. You need one like this.

  • You can buy them separate pretty cheap though.

  • Somewhere, hopefully.

  • Mmm...

  • I don't think they have them here.

  • Hmm!

  • They don't sell the string, separate. So, we're just gonna get it and safety pin it on.

  • Not very traditional, hopefully it works.

  • We've just started getting our yukata on.

  • I'm not a pro at it haha

  • So hopefully it looks okay, once I'm done.

  • It's kind of hard.

  • Taylor: I've never put one with...

  • Sharla: I only have one of these strings. It's better if you have two, and Taylor has zero!

  • So!

  • Oi, did you find safety pins?

  • Taylor: Ah, I have to look. I think I have, like, a couple.

  • Sharla: We're going to need at least four

  • Yeah...

  • The bow just has a...

  • little hook, so you can hook it into the obi at the back.

  • And you don't retie it or anything.

  • So easy...

  • And I have these extra pieces that I got at a secondhand store actually. They have lots of kimono and yukata decorations,

  • so I'm just going to, like, tuck this crinkly thing into the top of my obi

  • And then this cord can be tied in like a fancy knot on top.

  • But, I can just do basic ones.Won't be doing anything fancy, but it's super pretty it's like...

  • It feeds from orange to pink. Love it! It was, like, I think five dollars or something

  • We're all dressed. I got Taylor's yukata on.

  • Taylor: Yep!

  • Sharla: Hopefully , they, they're ok! Ok, we gotta go.

  • We took way too long! haha

  • I don't know how late this, umm,

  • festival is on for, but they usually go pretty late into the evening.

  • So I think we'll be okay at six, six o'clock now.

  • So we just arrived at Ueno park and as you could see

  • Taylor and I the only ones in yukata

  • Are we at the right place?

  • I feel really silly..

  • Well, I haven't seen a matsuri yet. So hopefully would we get there, there will be more people...

  • Otherwise we're just gonna look really, silly.

  • Taylor: It's right there! And they're all wearing it.

  • Sharla: Why is no-one wearing one?

  • What kind of matsuri is this?

  • Taylor: Oh my god.. I want to go home! haha

  • Sharla: No! It's your first and probably last matsuri...

  • Is that a yukata? No, just a shirt that looks like a yukata.

  • Oh! Oh! I see people, I see people.. *relief*

  • Ok!

  • Why are there so few though? Usually when you go to a festival like this there will be, like,

  • At least 200-300 people not all be wearing their yukata

  • Oh well, I'm just happy we saw one other person hahaha

  • Maybe we're not at the festival part yet.

  • Antique shops.. Oh, I want that lucky cat!

  • Oh that's nice...

  • So this a lake, like, a 'pond'. They call it a pond.

  • Oh, they're not lily pads, because they're not floating.

  • Are they?

  • Taylor: I think they are though.

  • Sharla: But they're huuge. They're just starting to bloom.

  • Taylor: They look like cabbage.

  • Sharla: Yeah!

  • The little temple in the background is really cool.

  • Haven't explored this park much.

  • We found some booths, but they're all...

  • Closing up, no! Anzuame... Oh, I want to eat those...

  • Okonomiyaki....

  • Taylor: Can you hear that?

  • Sharla: Something going on over there?

  • Taylor: This is pretty.

  • Sharla: Yeah...

  • It's like trying to find something good in all of it. Well, this is nice...

  • Where should we go?

  • Yeah, that sounds like a festival.

  • Can hear like chanting..

  • Off in the distance

  • It's seven o'clock, and we still have not located the festival. where we looking at news for like

  • Were we looking at news from, like, 2016?

  • Taylor: No, I was looking at Time Out Tokyo

  • He really said it's on.

  • But what's that noise?

  • Sharla: I can't tell if it's chanting or protesting..

  • We're just gonna head towards the noises

  • And, hope there's something over there. Still haven't seen any more people in yukata.

  • Those two girls give us a sliver of hope

  • So the noises, which sounds like a matsuri, are like people performing on a stage.

  • Damn it!

  • So I told Taylor we should have our own matsuri at home.

  • Because she just bought a yukata

  • for today. We need to do something

  • matsuri-ish...

  • So... We're gonna go to the store and get some fireworks and have our own summer festival

  • on the roof

Sharla: Morning guys. I'm here with Taylor,
