[CELLIST PLAYING]
Hi, I'm Qiang Tu, or in Chinese we say Tu Qiang.
I'm a cellist with the New York Philharmonic.
My dad, he thought it might be the best
thing for us to learn something which he knows the best.
So therefore we started to learn Cello from my father.
When my father decided to make our instrument,
the first, my 1/2 sized cello.
We used one part with wood from our mattress
to build my very first cello.
1987 I decide to come to US to continue to study.
Still had a tough time when I came.
That time we are only allowed to carry $30 US currency.
In 1995 I'm going to New York Philharmonic
as a first Chinese born musician.
I still remember my very first time to play with orchestra.
I was so nervous and excited.
Suddenly I see all this film stars sit next to me.
Later when we started the play, the orchestra's sound
really knocked off me.
It's amazing.
I'm so proud that we can be a part with this group.
